Biotech Without Borders

Welcome to BwoB Loomio group!

I have set this up in order to have discussions, gather opinions and make collective decisions on matters that concern BwoB. I am excited to use this platform to allow various people to come together to work towards common goals as outlined in our Mission Vision Values document

Three of the things that inspired me to create and continue to invest my time into this space are:

Loomio's help docs (especially this graph describing an approach to collaboration, and the consent process)
This article about a type of workplace that described a culture I think would benefit BwoB if we were able to implement it among ourselves
This image listing elements that can be employed to rebuild our imaginative capacity (from this article)

In order mitigate overwhelming the group with notifications, only admins are allowed to notify everyone. All members can make a poll or open a thread to probe for interest and begin a conversation. Invite an admin (eg Danny) to the poll or thread and they can help notify the whole group.

There is a separate subgroup for lab members as well as for officers. The theory behind these divisions is that there are different shared resources and responsibilities in these groups and thus they need independent spaces for discussions. If you should have access to these subgroups but currently do not please email or start a private thread.

Please note that requests to join the Loomio group that have no reason stated will be rejected. To help understand better how you might fit into our community, we also ask that you share with us your general location and a brief statement on your prior experience with Biotech (we welcome folks with no experience!). Furthermore if there is no activity on your account within 1 month of joining your account will be removed and you will be added to the mailing list instead as that is a better passive information channel. (Activity can be on the private welcome thread if you feel there is no appropriate place to engage publicly). Email notifications from Loomio come from notifcations@loomio.com so please ensure these are not being caught by your spam filters. We want folks to be engaged here even if it's just to read the activity. This is not a mailing list and if you are seeking updates of that nature please add yourself to our mailing list, here.
