In order to raise money for the rent of the lab for 2024, Biotech Without Borders is running a crowdfunding campaign using Open Collective ending on Giving Tuesday (November 28th, 2023). We had a strategy meeting on Oct 3rd and in that meeting I realized that I'm going to need to house some of the documents we're using in a single place and let folks know how they can help. Strategy
The approach for this crowdfunding campaign is to reach as many people as we can by working through our networks in order to direct traffic to our crowdfunding page and hopefully have some of those people donate money. The page has some reward tiers which might help incentivize folks to donate. Taking this opportunity to reach the widest possible group has the added benefit of letting as many people as possible know that Biotech Without Borders will be around for at least 1 more year but also that it needs help in order to remain open. Since the vision of our space is an entirely member-funded all-volunteer lab we need to reach folks who can make that vision a reality.
How folks can help
Think about who you could tell about the campaign. Then check if any of the resources (below) will help you reach out to those people and use it.
If there are no resources that you can use, comment in this thread letting us know what resource you need to help reach out to someone in your network
Comment if there is a tier you can contribute such as an item or an event you will run in 2024 using the lab (for example I'm committing to teaching some classes and Priscilla donated some zines)

Thanks for everyone who participated. It's also really nice to have external folks say they want to help out with what is ostensibly an internal need.
I created a meeting using google here. for September 25th at 6PM-8PM. WILL BE RESCHEDULED The tentative meeting notes are here and are also in the calendar invite.

What is the team, working group or event you are inviting people to?
Danny has put a lot of thought and effort into a crowdfunding campaign he will be launching next week to get infrastructure funding for BwoB. The campaign will run until Giving Tuesday. We are inviting you to join us in strategizing how to make this campaign a roaring success.
Why is this important?
BwoB is committing to a one year extension of our lease at the end of October. We need to raise infrastructure funding to help cover our general expenses (rent, internet, waste disposal etc.) which run about $4000 per month. We need to pull together to keep this awesome space open!
What are you asking people to do?
Meet at BwoB once a week to share ideas, starting Monday September 25th from 6-8PM.

I'm not feeling well today and so I think it might be best to delay this meeting to talk strategy to when I have my wits about me.

I'm looking for feedback and help with the campaign and having a meeting to discuss will help me solidify some decisions and allow others to provide feedback synchronously.

My schedule is flexible. FYI, I am not sure how helpful I can be, as I don't know the US landscape for funding, but am also interested in same issue of raising moola to sustain our DIYbio.

@KJ Aitken Ah this meeting is not about funding in general but rather a crowdfunding campaign that I'd like some help developing and launching. I'm open to opportunities to tie into other efforts to raise money for other spaces too. I appreciate any attention and help you can provide, but I'm also happy to just have you observe.
