European Network for People of African Descent

The aim of the first Network Meeting–which was co-organized with the European Network Against Racism (ENAR)–was to build a network of organizations for people of African Descent in Europe and to create a Demand Catalogue prior to the European Elections in May 2014. More than 15 advocacy groups from Europe drafted the demand catalogue prior to the elections of the European Parliament in May 2014

Following the positive outcomes of the first Network Meeting for People of African Descent & Black Europeans, a second Network Meeting was held in Berlin in November 2014 (130 years after the colonial “Berlin Conference”). This Meeting strategically developed the Network by dividing it into four stakeholder Working Groups focused on specific tasks and each with a designated team leader:
· Grassroots Coordination Team
· International Coordination Team
· Finance & Events Team
· PR & Web team

During the 2nd Network Meeting the name the European Network of People of African Descent (ENPAD) was also established. The Network currently consists of 20 organisations in 9 European countries.
The 3rd Network Meeting in Amsterdam in March 2015 will focus on the actions taken during the first 4 months (interventions, declarations, press work and media representation), evaluate the current working structure and further develop the framework of the network.

Overall goals of the Network are:

To work towards the full implementation in Europe of the objectives of the UN International Decade for People of African Descent 2015-2024 and its three themes; recognition, justice and development.
To raise civic awareness of anti-Black racism in Europe, through an informative website and more importantly transnational actions.
To start a Pan-European Black movement for the empowerment of People of African Descent in Europe and their equality of dignity and human rights.
To advocate for National Actions Plans against Racial Discrimination and an EU-wide Framework for People of African Descent in Europe.

To develop and stabilize a long-term European Network of People of African Descent.
