Financial Support

We discussed the possibility of using some B4E funds to support some of the legal cases re Brexit. There are two that relate to the illegal funding of The Vote Leave campaign, one by Open Democracy and another by Jo Maugham's Good Law Project. We have almost £9k in the bank and are still getting a steady stream of income from stalls and merchandise. Would you be happy to donate £200 to each case which would leave us with at least £8.5k for the (hopefully) imminent referendum campaign?

Sounds reasonable but do you have links to the two campaigns?

I agree.

Sorry for the delay, links are above. If we can make a decision by tomorrow morning, I can arrange payment before I leave for Rome in the afternoon.

I would be in favour of contributing £200 each. I would also like to propose we donate £200 to People's Vote and £200 to SODEM.

I'm happy with that too. Our income in December was more than 1,500 and our total outgoings were £291.62. I'm confident that we will continue to get some income through merchandise and donations and our current balance is a little over £9k plus a bit more in the Paypal account.

Agree with all of these.
I'd like to put something else into the mix. Although this is not 100% focused on Brexit, Full Fact is an independent fact checking service. They live fact-check Question Time and any political debates that may arise. They're great at debunking fake stats/graphics that circulate around Facebook. If you're not familiar with them, I highly recommend you follow them. They're a charity and work almost entirely on donations.

I'm happy with that too. if we give them all £200, that's £1000 in total but I think it's money well spent, it's consistent with our campaign and leaves us with a good fund if there is another vote. Any views on this?

Sounds good to me!

Some of you might know I’ve been in discussion with Led by Donkeys. They put up billboards with quotes that Brexiters would like to forget they’d said and so I asked if a billboard about Rees Mogg and his quote in 2011 where he suggested 2 refs could go up in Moggland. They said they have peo0le in Bristol and would get onto it - however, they seem to have gone legit and have set up a fundraiser. Most of the stuff is on Twitter but they have a page on FB. I’ll see if I can share it to our group page. I think we should contribute to that fund.

I agree, brilliant work! We should definitely support them and could use their help with getting billboards into Moggsville.

At the Steering meeting last night, we agreed to allocated £150 each to the five projects (£750 total). As a referendum campaign could be very close we thought it would be wise to hold on to cash where we can. We can always donate more later on.

Alison Born Sat 19 Jan 2019 7:40AM
How about we do the 150 to the 5 projects agreed and 250 to the billboards as they have immediate impact?
Jane Riekemann Sat 19 Jan 2019 9:35AM
Yes, good idea. The billboards have taken off.

Hi, i've paid £150 each from B4E to SODEM, People's Vote and Fact Checker. Still need to clarify whether the legal challenges need funds and what Led by Donkeys want us to do.

Yes, sounds good.
