Who wants to work on an open ecosystem of digital tools ?
Summary of the thread
We are going to make a video conference about WHY, WHAT and HOW we are gonna build this open app ecosystem ?
Things you can do to contribute :
* Please answer the form just at the right side if the page to let us know when you are available for the meeting.
* Here is the google doc of the agenda of the meeting
* Here is the folder in google drive that contains every important documents
Originial thread
Who wants to work in the creation of an ecosystem of open source inter-connected applications to run our open projects ? Or who works already for that happening ?
Open project
An open project is a project to whom we can contribute even if we are not part of the project.
Interconnected
That means :
* when you put information into one app which could be usefull for another one, the information is duplicated.
* You can easily move to one app to another thanks to a menu in the top bar.
* the apps used by a project are easily accessible by a top menu.
Example
I run a project with the objective "create a democratic school in New York". I will need digital tools to run it. I just need to go on our ecosystem, and tick all the apps I need.
Now everyone can see WHAT I want to do, WHY I want to do it, and HOW I will do it. It's geolocalized so anyone near me can see my project and contrib So anyone can contribute to this project by using the same apps that I created.
Moreover, I can see all the documentation I need in a wiki written by persons with similar projects in the world.
I can easily get in touch with all the persons in my city who want to create democratic school to work with them. And all the persons in the world with the same kind of project to help each other.
The actions that we do and need to do are visible by everyone, so anyone can help us.
We adopted a method based on action, without any hierarchy. So it's really easy to contribute. If you want to do it, just do it, if you need advise about something, just ask, no one will blame you for your mistakes, so test things out !
Apps have been created, we just need to link them
Do you want to help us ?
If you want to help us, you can come here : https://chat.lescommuns.org/channel/open.apps.ecosystem
If you have question you can ask me here or on the chat, as you wish !
Hope we can work together !
@tiberiusbrastavice Did you actually read the agenda of the meeting ?
I just tooked at it. There are some propositions about methodologies of work.
My goal is not to discourage the initiative, but rather to incite you to think and do more to structure and incentivise it.
Actually I have some skills in organizational systems and work methods, so I guess it's fine ;)
That's perfect.
@draft and anyone else who wants to go to the video call: we are working with @ivan116 on this project https://github.com/django-rea/rea-app who is interested in attending the video call. He is worried his English is not good enough to keep up with a call. Would it be OK to start with the video so we can see each other, and then switch to chat if it gets too hard to communicate? (FairCoop uses this method of meeting, and at first it seems really slow, but I have grown to like it quite a lot.)
I forgot to put the guide of the meeting, so that's a good point ! Which is interesting in web meetings, is to be active using audio, chat and the google doc. Each tool has a use : video conference is more here to see each other (which is good when you work with people) and be exhaustive about what we want to say. Chat is to answer really quickly and exchange really fast with people about ideas and actions we could talk about. The google doc is the document to centralize all the good thoughts we had.
Does it seem good to you ?
So do you think that people who have more trouble with English can be OK in this call with your proposed methods? I guess we can find out in the call too and adjust.
We will try to help him the more we can ;)
What languages does he speak ?
@ahdinosaur is this time OK for you? It might be an hour later than you said originally? (ended up 7am for us rather than 6am as far as I can tell, which is lovely but I definitely want it to work for you)
And in general, is this going to be the time? I want to post it to see if a couple other people are interested.
@ahdinosaur In how many times will it be 11PM for you ?
Here is the hangout of the meeting : https://hangouts.google.com/call/o5pq6do2azc5xnt5jzactrug74y
what time is the meeting @draft ?
Summarize of the meeting
You can comment on this document
WHY
We agreed on WHY we were doing this open app ecosystem :
* To enable the new economic and social system to come
* To connect those who are building and using open systems
WHAT
We agreed on WHAT would it be
* An ecosystem of interconnected open source applications easy to use, install, configure and contribute to.
HOW
Very light method : if you want to do something, put it in the wekan and do it. Make this action very easy to understand so anyone can contribute to it.
The guides on how to log in and how to add an action are in the wekan, in the presentation column.
There will be another meeting next week to see how we advance on our actions. It would be great to see you all ;)
@tiborkatelbach - did you want to work with me and @lynnfoster on getting the Vocabulator to use your vocabulary mapping tools? If so, where would you like to discuss how to do it? We don't care where. If not, that's ok too, I might have misunderstood, and we all got lots of things to do...
hey @bobhaugen , I propose a meet up on the same timeframe as the last call on Tuesday , is that good for you ?
@tiborkatelbach sounds good, but if nobody from NZ wants to come, maybe it can be a couple hours later? And our call was on Monday, but you want to do Tuesday, right? (Either is fine with us.)
sure @lynnfoster , is +1h on tuesday , is that good for you ? and anyone interested in translating vocabularies and interoperability
@tiborkatelbach sounds good for us, see you there... and of course others interested in the vocabularies
I'll follow these conversations and see where they lead. To be honest, i have very low confidence in these types of attempts if they don't get structured (take some form of open organisational model) and if there is no other incentive that brings and keeps everyone working together other than good will and some excitment. Most of these bursts dissipate.
At this moment I am busy working on funding. If we get it we'll probably be able to fund initiatives like this one, for infrastructure development, structured as an OVN.
