Detecting trees through Masked R-CNN or U-Net models.
Could this be a starting point to map urban trees?

There is actually a paid tree map of UK created from BlueSky aerial photos & Lidar: I believe good analysts can identify species from good quality aerial imagery. In practice it's really hard for people to correctly map trees from aerial imagery: crowns merge, smaller trees disappear, crowns are asymmetric etc.

I'm quite interested in this as a challenge.
If anyone was thinking of starting a project on this, I'd be interested to help out.
