Name

Name is used for internal collection and processing purposes. This information helps us make sure we have an accurate count of the New Zealand population and its families and households. Name of occupants is used to ensure that the individual forms completed in a dwelling match the people listed on the dwelling form.
Our current recommendations relating to name
Collecting name is required by law under the Statistics Act 1975, so must be included in the census.
No changes are recommended for name.
See our preliminary view of 2018 Census content (page 14) for a more detailed discussion on name information.

Name information could be usefully reported. Particularly as a comparative dataset to DIA's top 100 names per annum.

It wouild be interesting to see how many people use there legal name and how many use a diffrent name in day to day usage.
Very few offical forms allow for a prefered name along side a leagl name, maybe they should.
