emoji support

I'd like to see support for some of the more popular custom emoji commonly used on Mastodon, at least the "blob" series and, personal preference only, definitely :think_bread: if not some of the bread series ;)

Yes we need someone to take the lead on custom emoji development! Are you willing? I'd like to see our social.coop logo and other cooperation themed emoji

this is a brilliant idea! I can provide you with the svg version of our logo any time, if needed.

I'm not a graphic designer and will be traveling - it would be cool to see any of our logos and maybe some creative commons icons (I'm not sure if there is a limitation that emoji must be square or not). But just to make sure, my proposal was also to add the fairly common (in my selection bias anyway :)) "blob" emoji - the ones that look like the Android blobs like :blobpeek: and :blobdab: etc - and maybe some of the "thinking face" emoji that people seem to have taken a liking to. I'm partial to :think_bread: and while I haven't seen it in Mastodon, there is a thinking face emoji with Karl Marx hair ;)

My original idea is mostly for fun. But of course we could consider adding ones for various open source projects or whatever else.

IIRC it's relatively easy to import another instance's custom emoji now. I think it's a good idea to start with the ones on mastodon.social.

Is there a way to see which instances most toots on the federated timeline come from, and then import emoji from the top 2 or 3?

What about selecting the top 3 instances (by number of toots) which use mostly non-asian charsets? The only reason for this distinction is that most of our users are likely to be of the non-asian-charset world for the foreseeable future, and I'm making a wild-ass guess that emoji traditions may be different in e.g. Japan and China, and their big instances would dominate the top 3 if we just went by # of toots with no other criteria.
Having taken a quick peek on instances.social, it looks like the top 3 with these criteria would be mastodon.social, mastodon.cloud, and witches.town.
