Guests for 2014

TC Travis Cottreau Public Seen by 9

Hey all - we are going to need a list of guests for next year. We've already been in touch with a few people, and since Randi is leaving us in July ( :( !!!), we absolutely want to have her up as a feature.

Others that I know of:
- March: Laurie Jane May for our first repeat performance
- ?: Donna Skoludek from Hamilton expressed interest
- Randi Janelle (or "Eaton!" as I like to call her)

Other possibilities
- CJ Bowerbird. We only got a small sample from him, but I think he'd be awesome for a feature. He's in Canberra, but flies for work quite often. We just have to ask him if there is a time when he's in Welly that works for both of us. OR, alternatively, fly him over.

  • Funny, I have tried a few times to get some poets in from the Vic uni courses, but they have been all of a particular type who are quite shy and somewhat scared of spoken word. I don't know if it will work out. There are a few who read regularly. It's quite different from what we usually get, but might be interesting some time. Ashleigh Young, Morgan Bach is another... they are all quite humble and shy.

  • others?

Awesome, thanks for getting this post started Travis.

All good possibilities - I think we can definitely afford to fly some guests in next year. If we apply for funding from WCC again, we need to think about how we are going to justify that expense, since we have been breaking even, if not making a slight profit.

Charlotte Simmons would be keen (Lonnard and I met her at Hawkes Bay poetry conference) - she was keen when we asked her, but had recently had an accident on her bike, so said next year would be better.

We should have Te Kahu Rolleston down again. Maybe with Michael.

Ken and Carrie are likely to be in the country again next year some time too.

I love the idea of Te Kahu Rolleston and Michael Moore. I'm sure they have more than what we've seen, since I heard some of it in the car from the airport. :)

Redwood Rider would be great as well.

If we get someone like CJ or Ken and Carrie again, we should do another show separate from PIM I think. :) Like last time...

As I mentioned once before, I am keen to talk to the refugee community - they have heart wrenching poems to bring that I am sure would be appreciated.

Others to consider: Ben Brown from Christchurch and maybe Jess Holly Bates from Auckland - I think Jess's partner is originally from Wellington so may come down from time to time.

I think both of those work Lonnard. We just need to plan out a few months ahead, and get in touch with people and see what times work for them. The hard part is when 2 or 3 overlap. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. :)

By the way just in case you want to promote this, Charlotte has a "D" in her name Simmonds - I have corrected in on Facebook.
