Entypo Vs FontAwesome
I tried to use Entypo (which is used in the SPV) on the regular site. https://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/pull/4456
I had to build a character-selectors map manually, from the documentation: https://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/pull/4456/files#L1R52
It seems to have variable dimensions for its icons. The bookmark icons, for instance is really thin. And I had to inline-block them, add width, center them to get a uniform size for the sidebar.
Then it turns out some of the icons have different baselines :/ The mail and megaphone icons for example, don't sit well together because of this: https://f.cloud.github.com/assets/1003238/1041772/5f189696-0fda-11e3-995a-1f0fae3f2dd1.png
I don't think this is worth the effort.
I suggest we switch to FontAwesome: http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/
I have worked with this before and I've found it a pleasant experience.
What do you guys think?

fontawesome is in my experience the most complete icon font you can. Plus it was designed wo work well with Bootstrap.

I don't think all of the icons of it would fit well into Diasporas current design, the overlap with Entypo seems better. I'm also unsure what the replacements would be for some icons we use. But if everybody thinks it's better I won't block it.

I'm also a big fan of FontAwesome, have used it in several projects and know what to expect. Plus it integrates easily with Rails and the asset pipeline. On the problem of missing icons, can't we still use Entypo for those icons that FA doesn't have?

don't care, but constancy everywhere is good, for example my custom header should look the same in the SPV as it does everywhere else

Fontawesome does seem to be a good choice, but I would like to stick with Entypo, give it some time and then switch if necessary. It is moving to an icon font that I'm more interested in. Switching between two icon-fonts shouldn't be very difficult.

We already use entypo in the SPV. There is no reason right now to switch to FontAwesome.

No real feelings on the subject.

Both look good and, as long as Diaspora is going to use a type font, both are ok for me
