Snack or not to Snack?

A Annmarie Public Seen by 70

We have lots and lots of snacks which lead to people just coming into the shop to buy them and go, without becoming a member, which isn't what a cooperative is about. On monday, there were only 3 of us at the meeting but we thought we should restrict the snacks as
they don't fit on the counter,
the flapjacks contain palm oil,
it's not great to promote snack culture,
crisps might be organic but they're not healthy or nutricious or local?

On the other hand lots of people like them :)

So let's trial the decision tool where we can all have a say?

The snacks are good but they fill up too much of the table top and they waste so much packaging so it would be better to stock up on sweet things like the dried fruit which comes in the larger packets. I agree a few people do just come and buy the snacks without realising why we stock them

Restricting the snacks makes a lot of sense, there's too many of them and having around 5 sounds like a reasonable compromise.

If anyone thinks a number other than 5 would be best, please say

Why not get flap jacks from That old Chestnut and if they don't sell on Tuesday wrap them in waxed paper to sell the next day...

Ah, sorry I'm late to this conversation, but given that I may have ordered many of these I should say something!

Part of the reason I've ordered more snacks than normal is that we no longer order the fresh cakes (or pastries) from Lembas for Thurs. I'm not sure exactly why this is as it used to be a regular thing; I've not done so simply as it wasn't being done when me and Bissera took over.

Also, I think it would be good to have 9 Bars and perhaps Trek bars as part of what we offer, as they're both made in Wales and are good quality (mainly nuts, seeds and fruit). As well as being fairly local, I have a feeling that the Welsh economy could do with more support than the English, too (but I'm half Welsh so perhaps biased...)

Otherwise I agree with the other issues brought up regarding packaging, counter space and non-members.

Should we maybe have a discussion about re-stocking fresh cakes/pastries, or would this go against the whole non-snacking idea?
