Organisationally, do we need to ask our members for copies of their driver's licence and car insurances?

Discussion came up at the Risk Jedi (linked to Hooman Jedi) regarding the risk we as an organisation may face if one of our members has a car accident whilst conduct work related business and we have not checked if they have appropriate insurance (i.e. car, third party insurance, comprehensive insurance, valid drivers licence etc).

Do we need to consider asking our members, annually, for their updated insurances and copies of drivers licences? If we don't, what risk may this pose? If we do, what risk may this pose?

Some good questions and scenarios- will come back to you with some responses after a bit of investigating :-)

I think we need external advice regarding the points raised by Dane and Fran. Private vs business usage and the insurances required.

I have no problem providing both. For me its a business decision around the importance of having 3rd party insurance which means 'IF' something were to happen with or without a participant in the car I would be assured of vehicle repairs / replacement and in my insurers case a vehicle to maintain work commitments. Guess this reflects that I live out of town, distance I travel to participants and commitment to be able to deliver - having been a touring muso, from experience, its a no brainer for me.

Candice provided some information at the Bored Meeting regarding this question- it may be something to consider in terms of our thoughts/responses/responsibilities.
