Approve Candidacy Rules

in 2018 the Maryland Green Party Coordinating Council approved a set of candidacy rules that spell out the timeline and process for seeking the nomination of the Maryland Green Party. In January of 2021The Maryland Green Party Coordinating Council approved a bylaw amendment which requires party run primary elections for statewide and federal offices.

This document represents the policies previously adopted, plus the bylaw amendment, plus the issues discussed by the electoral committee and the Coordinating council over the last three months

The document also refers to a survey that we ask potential candidates to complete, this is the same as was approved and utilized in 2018. That survey is here

These two documents are in scope for this proposal, the bylaw change is not as it has already been decided on by the cc in accordance with section 14.5 of the Maryland Green party bylaws.

I agree with the rules. Is the date under 3b. correct? Just asking for clarification.

MFD

There is a typo in the document. The date for applying to run for statewide office should be March 15, 2022.

Question: do we need the expense of a primary for all state and congressional offices even when we only have one candidate for that office?

Friendly, technical amendment: can we change the one reference to her or his on Page 2, 5(a) to simply "that"? As in "This may include providing the candidate with a list of Greens in that district" instead of "This may include providing the candidate with a list of Greens in his or her district."

AEC

Mary, i will be happy to change the gender pronouns. As far as the question about the primary goes, we already voted to create that primary process regardless of the number of candidates.. https://www.loomio.org/d/CrBLDzu7/bylaw-amendment-proposal-primary-elections?p=1
