Conversation for Action now!

Bob Haugen PublicSeen by 199

I want to start a Conversation for Action "app" in the spirit of Open Apps:

  • Based on a shared vocabulary, not necessarily shared code.
  • Very simple: just about coming to agreements on collaborative actions.
  • Vocab to focus on Offer, Acceptance and Commitment, and re-use Agent. (Very simple versions of each.)
  • Not limited to business use (in other words, detune from gr:Offering).
  • Allow for more than two participants in the conversation.
  • Usable from any software, including email and command line.
  • No central repository. Every participant keeps their own log.

Does this seem doable? Is anybody else interested?

If you, how should we do this? I want it to happen and get used ASAP, not talk about it. Put a small footprint on the Web and grow out from there.

For more background, see previous Loomio discussion on this topic.

@orsans - yes, Swarm is relevant, but it is more like a technical means for doing smart contracts etc.

Conversation for Action is the human-level vocabulary and protocol, where protocol does not mean technical, but closer to the protocols for diplomacy. Related to protocols like Roberts Rules of Order. How humans conduct their relationships when coming to agreement, and executing the actions they have agreed on.

Swarm and the other technical "smart contract" stuff tends to ignore the human protocol.

(That being said, I like both Swarm and Ethereum and would be happy to work with either of those groups in marrying the human and technical levels.)

On the Yesandera start, I've got the emails, but not the dates yet, is that correct? I could pick some from the Doodle if you like (they can be changed if necessary as you progress).

Bob Haugen

Looks like we should have started yesterday. Tuesday May 26 is good for everybody on the doodle but @orsans . @timbonnemann and @davidarella have not responded on the doodle.

But if I remember correctly, the end date of a stage is more important than the start date. We can't begin until everyone signs in, but if you start it with the people who have responded to the doodle, then we can start when everybody signs in, and just set an end date for the first stage now of maybe June 4.

If we start with the doodlers, can you bring in Tim and David later, when they have agreed to the very rough timeline? Tim has already voted for the general idea, so I assume he's in. David arrived in the Loomio discussion after the voting was closed. I don't know if he wants to be part of the YesAndEra experiment or not. They could just pop confirming comments here in this thread if they are ok with the timeline, and if David wants to participate in YesAndEra.

The only reason I wouldn't just suggest you invite them now is the YesAndEra rule that we can't start until everybody signs in. I've seen a lot of experiments like this where the number of participants dwindles due to whatever. Things happen.

Theodore Taptiklis

OK, I'm off to bed now. Can start you in the morning.

David Arella

I will plan to join the YesAndEra experiment later, but will be happy to add comments to this thread along the way. You should proceed as you suggested.

Hi Bob,

I meant to set this up early today, but events just overwhelmed me. Will get to it tomorrow. T
