RSA AGM. Exciting news.

The RSA have chosen our project to be showcased at their AGM on 10th October. See here: https://www.thersa.org/events/fellowship-events/2017/10/rsa-engage-agm-2017
It's a wonderful chance to connect with like minded folk and even potential funders. However, I'm conscious it's yet another event 'down south'. In the course of other things I've tested Dave Richard's and John Parry's availability and both are tentatively available. Dave suggested Tomas, and the opportunity to talk about the book. Does this work for your calendar Tomas? I'm also proposing we have a gender mix. Women forest gardeners out there??

I tried to resist responding to this but can't. You have directly asked some people you know, who happen to be male. And you want female forest gardeners to volunteer to be token females so there's a gender mix? As an afterthought.

Fair challenge Jo. I happened to be speaking to John and he recommended Dave; Dave recommended Tomas. I wasn't thinking.

I can't do 10th October, will be teaching in Liverpool that day. . There are clearly plenty of others who are able and willing to do the RSA gig.

Yes, Jo's comment was fair challenge, the diversity of our selves and our experience matters! I believe that forest gardening in public spaces, and better use of miscellaneous plots of land are strands that need exploring, building on the spread of community orchards... I've had a leading role with Birchfields Park Forest Garden from instigation to the present (see Tomas' book 'Forest Gardening in Practice'). Journeys from Manchester & subsistence in London are expensive, but I could possibly attend and stay with a friend so that I wouldn't have to rush off after this evening event

I don't think this event is for me, although I am very, very pleased at the news. What is the format of the feature of 'our' project? Do we get to give a talk / presentation / ??

Hi Anni here's the message from the RSA:

The Forest Garden project has been chosen as one of those that we’d like to invite you to showcase at the RSA’s AGM on 10th October, at RSA House.

We are trialling a new format this year – as well as the AGM meeting which will take place in the Great Room, we’d also like to highlight some Fellow-led projects that are having an impact in different areas of work, be they Economies, Enterprise and Manufacturing, Creative Learning and Development, or Public Services and Communities. The later part of the evening (7.15-8.00pm) will be held in the Benjamin Franklin room, where attendees will have an opportunity to network, have some refreshments and ask questions to RSA staff and Fellows leading interesting projects. We also hope this would be a good opportunity for you to share what you’re doing with Forest Garden, and help to spread the word about the project.

There will be a table available, so you could bring along flyers, promotional material, a banner and any colleagues who may like to join you, as I’m sure attendees will want to ask you questions and find out more information.

As it happens, I'd be able to go to this and would love to do it. I am absolutely passionate about communicating fg to a wider audience and comfortable about doing it. Would be happy to offer my powerpoint from the RCA/Down House talks as a starting point, and collaborate with others in producing a kickarse presentation. Here's my ego page: http://www.ediblelandscapeslondon.org.uk/Jo_Homan - the youtube interview has now had over 19,000 views!
