Future Party Alliance

PX Peter Xing Public Seen by 160

If we don't get enough vote pledges on the TPAU website, should we direct the vote pledges to the Future Party and join their party, with Transhumanism as a core principle for influencing policy decisions?

I did like the initial idea of having multiple smaller parties focused on different goals all falling under a coalition. Possibly it may hurt our reach to a certain audience if we stop promoting TPAU as its own party, but most likely it won't affect our core principles much, if not at all. I'd prefer to keep us as separate parties, I think its best put it down to a vote if this does end up happening

Definitely agree with Beau, I saw this message this morning and a "Transhumanist Party" may also be created under TP International given the fact that we join. I think it is best that we keep our parties separate but work under a coalition.

Yea i think that would be the best approach - having separate parties to maintain core principles!

Just like the American TP and their Future Party, completely separate parties but as far as I know they co-operate. I think it would be best if we did the same.

I also agree with Beau and Tristan. I think it's better to have separate parties that work together as a team.

The Future party - as far as I can tell - seems a little more developed than us but that's not to say we can't get to that point.

I think there could be advantages in having two parties over one (ignoring the fact that there are actually more than two). For one thing I think the Transhumanist Party may appear too "hardcore" to some voters with talk of mind uploading and things of that nature. Whereas the Future Party is a bit more conservative in the types of things it discusses, even though there may not be much if any difference to our policies...

I'd say it also keeps our options open for experimentation in the different parties without having to effect everyone.

Perhaps you might say that the Future Party is Google and we are Google X.

If TPAU doesn't get enough pledges I don't think I'd join the FP (too broad for me).
Is there a time limit on getting the 500? Is the number on the website what we're up to (Ie 38)?

No time limit, but if we want to get in on the next Federal election in 18 months, we need to be registered by then! Give some time for registration to process so we give ourselves 12 months.
Definitely should keep TPAU as a separate party to Future Party from the thoughts above! We should leverage off other alliances as well.

That's not to say we can't have alliances Peter, I think alliances would be of great benefit to us, and helps others find our party who may be interested. Given the registration process could take a while, I think it is in our best interest to plan how many votes we need by certain dates, as preparation before the next election.

As part of the alliance with the Future Party, they are asking if we can agree to help with their re-registration next month and say we are members of the Future Party if the AEC calls up, but for the purposes of the next election in 18 months we can still register our own party under TPAU based on the vote pledges on our transhumanism.com.au website.

What do you guys think of this approach? Given we are not yet a registered party, it may be beneficial to leverage their infrastructure prior to the next election and learn about the processes of a registered party, including campaigning and policy making. At the same time we can influence their policy decisions during that time.
