What are our next steps?
At our last meeting on Tuesday the 20th, I asked you all to think about next steps we should take to move things forward. This is a place to start to gather and refine ideas for next steps.
Add a comment with any ideas you have to get the ball rolling. When it feels like we have a specific proposal, we can start a proposal decision to test that out.

S341 (Sociocracy 3.0 for One) Closed Wed 28 Mar 2018 2:01AM
My sense is that this is a go. April and I have started to think through how this might work.
I would like to propose a collateral activity as a next step. I will send an email to my Emotus list with a blurb about S341 and asking about interest in an S341 Webinar with follow-up online workshops. We can also offer it through Heartwood. I would be a co-participant and use Plan B as my focus project. Eventually, if there is uptake on the webinar and follow-up sessins, we suggest applying the S3.0 principles to forming a support structure around that group of active folks.

I think the main advantage this has is it's simplicity.

You may want to explain to the others what S341 is. You and I talked about it this morning but...
Ben Kadel Mon 26 Mar 2018 11:43PM
"S3 for One" is a slightly simplified version of the S3.0 process meant as a personal coaching / personal development tool. I thought it could provide an easier entry point. There's a link to the S3 for one website for more details.

S3.41 Blurb Closed Wed 4 Apr 2018 2:01AM
I've created a google doc where I pulled language for the S3.41 and th S3 websites to create a short blurb with the intention that this would serve as the basis of an invitation email to an S3.41 Intro Webinar.

A little editing is required (some "s's" and such)
Ben Kadel Sat 31 Mar 2018 7:10PM
One "next step" to consider is regular communication with the Brain Trust. Initially, Roland and I thought about connecting with April and Erica as a sort of quick check-in before going back to the whole group, but it seems to be taking on a life of its own, so we should probably figure out how to close the loop with the group. This might be an opportunity to think about how to do regular updates with people who are interested. We should talk about what form that could take.

Discussion using Loomio or at Wednesday's meeting, Ben?
Ben Kadel Fri 6 Apr 2018 8:27PM
Hi everyone. I made you all coordinators. I have no idea what that means, but I'm assuming we all have access to the same buttons, etc. I thought that might make it easier to problem solve as we start to use Loomio.
Ben Kadel Fri 6 Apr 2018 9:04PM
In the spirit of "good enough for now / safe enough to try" - since this is the "Next Steps" thread and we talked about a few next steps at our last meeting, I thought I would post them here for the record and then try using a few different "decision tools" so that we can get familiar with the formats.
Identified Next Steps:
1) Clarify the purpose, audience, and expected outcomes of the Plan B presentation.
2) Solicit feedback on the presentation content.
3) Decide if the four of us will try out the S3.41 process on one shared idea or four individual ideas.
Am I missing anything? ("Happy Face" if you have nothing to add. Comment if you have an additional Next Step.

All-for-one or a Four-for-all? Closed Sat 14 Apr 2018 12:03AM
It seems like there's consensus that we will each do our own mini-project / goal as a test.
We agreed in principle to try out the S3.41 process idea on ourselves as a way to test it out. The question is, do we want to all work together on one goal / focus area or do we each want to try it out on our one first? Pick one option and leave a statement about why you picked what you picked. You can also add a new option if you would like.

I know I was pushing for one goal, but I have enough of my own projects that working on my own stuff is just as useful. :O)
witworks1 Mon 9 Apr 2018 10:35PM
Now leaning to each work on now project-if we work on the forestry project Plan B together we may get attached to our plans and solutions and find hard to let others 'in' (and if the systems is truly to make better collaboration we meed to be wary f.

Having multiple projects on the go will be a more realistic test of the systems.

Plan B Presentation Feedback Closed Sat 14 Apr 2018 12:03AM
I propose that we create a new thread on Loomio specifically to capture feedback on the content to include in the Plan B Presentation and use it as an engagement tool with the Brain Trust. We can attach the current PowerPoint (see attached) as the basis for the discussion. As the "context statement" we include the following:
purpose: to engage potential Plan B partners and provide them with enough information to feel comfortable taking the next step.
audience: potential supporters and partners in Plan B. mostly likely people with an interest in: sustainable /regenerative farming; happiness / quality of life / flow; the commons / cooperative economy, community resilience, intentional simplicity, or climate change response.
expected outcomes: the presentation will include a "next step" slides with specific actions for people to take, initially focused on developing a pool of self-identified "interested" folks.
Because we recognize that different audiences will have different interests, part of the feedback we are looking for is:
Which elements should be included in every presentation? What's the 'core content"?
What elements make most sense to use with specific audiences? When to include / exclude?
What is the best sequence for maximum effect and understanding?
Other feedback, is of course, welcome.

I'd like to give feedback, but this space closes on Friday, and I won't have time to look at it until the weekend.

We should probably talk about what a reasonable response window is.

Proposal: Brain Trust Report Back Closed Thu 19 Apr 2018 2:01AM
We send an email with the following bullet points and then follow-up with a group call to discuss next steps (including the questions for discussion).
Bullet points include:
A summary of activity since the December 2017 update
o Ben and Roland move to Victoria
o Exploring interim farming options (Whalewych)
o B+R+E+A meet periodically
o Exploring concepts, tools, collaboration platforms (no need to re-invent the wheel)
o Discovery of: Sociocracy and v3.41
o Big next step: seeking to engage with a new group to try out 3.41 and to move the whole plan forward.
o Figuring out what/how to communicate. Lots of deep effort/thought here!
Questions for discussion:
1) Would you like to continue acting as an advisor?
2) Would you be willing to provide feedback on the new “hook” presentation?

In general, I like the approach but would like some clarification on a few points. Are we thinking that each bullet point would be just that or would there be more info? How do we get enough meat without getting long-winded.

I want to contribute to the discussion on this. Do we need to move it to a thread so that we can discuss?
Ben Kadel Sun 15 Apr 2018 10:05PM
I'm attaching Erica and April's notes to Loomio as an experiment to see how dealing with these notes and comments might work on this platform.
Ben Kadel Sun 15 Apr 2018 10:08PM
@e26 @witworks1 In your notes you ask about the Powerpoint vs. The Prezi. They are the same thing. We were proposing to move the content from the PowwerPoint into Prezi to make it more engaging, but it is meant to convey the same content.
Ben Kadel Sun 15 Apr 2018 10:18PM
@e26 @witworks1 Roland and are hoping that the Brain Trust evolves by identifying 1) the people who would like to get more involved, acting more like an executive or leadership group that moves things forward (level of engagement TBD, but probably something like a willingness to spend a couple hours every week or two) 2) the people who are willing to serve as an advisory board (meeting probably once every 3 months to review progress and action plans for the next quarter), and 3) the people who want to fade into the ether.
Ben Kadel · Sun 25 Mar 2018 7:32PM
I seem to recall that we thought it would be a good idea to provide people with a "first taste" of the process before going into any theoretical explanations. And one of my take-aways was that we need to keep the process very simple to start.
