As part of its keen efforts to empower Emirati women and encourage them to play a greater role on the boards of listed companies, the SCA board agreed to oblige listed companies to have at least one woman appointed to their boards. This was done by amending Clause 3 of Article 9 of The SCABoard Chairman’s Decision No. (3/Chairman) of 2020 Approving the Governance Guide for Public Joint-Stock Companies.

The representatives also asked why the conventions supporting the rights of women had not been ratified or signed to ensure non-discrimination in line with the Constitutional Document. Government aims to support women inmates and transform them into “businesswomen” in cooperation with the General Administration of Prisons and women workers. He also stressed the need to enact laws that preserve the dignity of women prisoners and acknowledged that their employment is often unfair in terms of wages and benefits.
