This seems a bit too general. I have been writing for years about changing what we understand by the 'E' in ELT. But I don't think that is what most people in TAWSIG want to be concerned with. Maybe this aim could be rephrased. Regarding changing the 'E', here one article of interest: http://goo.gl/sgQMH

MAYBE:

We aim to critique established notions of what English Language Teaching is and is not.

we know in GISIG that a number of teachers think 'issues', global or otherwise, should best be avoided in classrooms and textbooks. i.e. that GI is not part of ELT. And that depending on place, lots of issues are deemed taboo.

Bear in mind that I have had experience in a number of places where ordinary learners make little progress with standard English, like provincial working-class Thailand and here in the Balkans under capitalism redux, a simpler 'critical CLIL' needed

Question Bill raises is important. Where is the boundary of our profession? Is it with 'English' or with 'Language teaching'?
