Prototyping living ecosystem program (new, tiny guildmates!)

J Jerone Public Seen by 13

A bunch of us would like to start activating a longstanding part of our vision for this space: having a collection of living creatures here with us to provoke wonder, appreciation for nature, and offer opportunities to practice stewardship for our immediate and extended communities.

Many of you have already met Hanunah and Jabuti, who have yet to move in. Next week I'd like to trial the addition of several fellow Earthlings to join us in the cafe and/or collaboratory. During the trial period of ~1 month (February 11 - March 4), Jerone will be responsible for recruiting helpers to keep them alive. If anyone is interested in joining in the procurement of our new members, please let me know if you can join us this Sunday morning!

Hey Jerone,

I am, in theory, in support of this proposal but I am struggling with the idea of adding more creatures to this space considering the level of cleanliness that already is a problem. We are dealing with mice again and the bathrooms were lovingly cleaned by H+ but before then we (as a space) were content to deal with puke coming down from the side of a bowl. I hate to prevent one conversation moving forward without the other, but I ask why is that we are devoting time to taking care of animals when basic care of the space isn't happening? For these reasons, I am going to disagree but not block. I can be persuaded but it would need to involve a regular cleaning plan for the whole guild.

I would like to see us steward this place, aesthetically and financially, before we continue our stewardship outwards

I love the idea in principle, as I love nature and animals of all kinds. It's not entirely clear to me what is being proposed here, and I share Roz's concerns about prioritizing cleaning. So I will be abstaining for now.
