On Sunday March 22, 2026, we will hold a joint working session to improve both co-op's onboarding procedures. It will run from 9:30a (in your timezone) to 11:30a Pacific

Signup here if you want a reminder of the event: https://luma.com/isxxidcf

Past Topics that could be expanded on:

Clarify Co-op Membership

Who do we want to join our co-op? How can we better communicate this?

(We made some progress on this in December - see new description on server about page and wiki front page)

Content Audit

What other public-facing surfaces do we have? Can we update them to be consistent with the blurb from the Co-op Membership track of work?

Improve Discovery

How can we improve discovery of social.coop? what is stopping us from being on http://joinmastodon.org/

Multiple language support

What would we like this to look like? how can we start down a path to supporting multiple languages?

Potential Topics that could be started:

Design Welcome

How could we best welcome people to our community? This is where we might brainstorm onboarding cohorts or mentors, or something else entirely!

Anything else folks want to work on!

Feel free to pitch other ideas that you want to work on with people!

Who is this session for:

Members of either co-op who wish to contribute to the documentation and improve the processes of onboarding.

These details can also be seen at https://wiki.social.coop/wiki/March_2026_Hackathon (which is easier to update and more public for sharing widely)

Hi Melissa, I'm not often on Loomio these days, so excuse my ignorance, but ...

a joint working session to improve both co-op's onboarding procedures

Which 2 co-ops? I presume social.coop is one, which is the other?

what is stopping us from being on http://joinmastodon.org/

There may be some changes social.coop needs to make to meet all the criteria. But FYI the Mastodon server list has been neglected for some time, due to lack of time and energy to maintain it. A Mastodon staff member admitted this when I @mentioned their official account in a reply to the admin of a Native American server, who had expressed frustration that they'd had no response to their application to be listed.

Hopefully the recent personnel changes at Mastodon, and their commitment to stop funneling all new accounts into mastodon.social, will lead to the server list being curated more actively. But FYI there are many other fediverse servers lists you could make sure you're listed on too.
