Supporting The Real Junk Food Project http://therealjunkfoodproject.co.uk/

B Bryher Public Seen by 81

As you might know, the Real Junk Food Project in Armley are having some financial difficulties at the moment. They are in the position of having to raise money to buy their cafe and save themselves from eviction.
I put this thread up because I know a few of you had expressed interest in setting something up to support them. I wont be able to be instrumental in running anything because I have to concentrate on the campaigns TRJFP is running, but I can certainly help out if anyone wanted to get something going!
I know it would mean a huge amount to everyone at the project and we need all the help we can get!

I'll look into how to book the space and keep you updated!

Annmarie Mon 24 Nov 2014 1:39AM

Even if we can't man the stall and do everything, i'm sure green party and other societies would volunteer too

B

Bryher Mon 24 Nov 2014 2:36PM

I agree with Annmarie, this is an idea we should be putting out to other societies and friends that might be interested in helping out, the more the merrier! Perhaps we should all ask around in the next few days.

Any updates on space booking?

Jenny Scattergood Wed 26 Nov 2014 8:24AM

we've got spaced booked in the union all day on 2nd December just trying to sort out logistics with Conor (if anyone can cook the food for us on the Tuesday) and then I'll need to find someone with a car!

Patrick Wed 26 Nov 2014 12:46PM

Great! I'm no cook and don't drive but can definitely do a shift on Tuesday afternoon. :)

Bryher Wed 26 Nov 2014 3:35PM

Has Conor said that its ok to get food from Armley?

Hey guys...
I did just say this on email.. but thought i'd get involved with the loomio thangggg...
I agree with Patrick that we should intercept out own food. As its not really helping the real junk food project if we are taking their food.... I'd be happy to help with the skipping. But monday nights are shit.
Is this a planned weekly thing or one off? it ties in with the sustainability hub getting a pay as you feel cafe. So might if thought one off might be cool to make it into a weekly thing...
If we change the day after next week I can go skipping with Conor in the van one night a week (when we find out what day is good). Have the food in my house in woodhouse or drop it at someones that is maybe closer to uni where we can meet to cook and serve the next day??? Just an ideaaaa...

I had the same thoughts about taking food from the cafe- I think it would be better to get our own. And I think the idea was definitely to make it a weekly thing (although there arnt too many weeks before xmas hols). The space is booked for Tuesday, Im sure it can be moved, but Tuesday was decided because it would be best for everyone, so if we can get some skipping done before then, then it might be good to keep the same day?

I will bring it up at the Sustainability Hub tonight to see if anyone's free with a car tuesday morning or whenever. I've texted luke about a car

P

Patrick Thu 27 Nov 2014 4:23PM

I agree it’d be good to make it a regular event to give TRJFP ongoing support, I would happily do a weekly shift. :)
There might be issues that come up but if we could intercept food ourselves that would be brilliant!

Annmarie Fri 28 Nov 2014 1:11PM

I'm gonna borrown luke's car on Tuesday so we can pick up food from armley. obviously this isn't ideal but maybe Alice do you want to chose the date for next week when we could go skipping before hand?

Sorry for being so quiet over the past 2 days - I;ve been having extended birthday celebrations! :)

So conor is happy to cook the food for us on Monday we just need to pick it up on tuesday - Ann Marie are you ok with the car? If so I'll sort out times about picking it up!

JS

Jenny Scattergood Fri 28 Nov 2014 1:17PM

Also we need volunteers! Can anyone help out on Tuesday between 12 - 3 ?

A

Annmarie Fri 28 Nov 2014 1:33PM

Yeah Luke's gonna get the car to uni then I'll borrow it from then. If you look at the Doodle Bryher's done above we have some volunteers 12-5

JS

Jenny Scattergood Fri 28 Nov 2014 1:49PM

Brilliant!

A

Annmarie Sun 30 Nov 2014 8:52PM

We don't have a car! Luke tried but it was already booked

JS

Jenny Scattergood Sun 30 Nov 2014 9:07PM

Umm could just taxi ? :S

A

Annmarie Sun 30 Nov 2014 9:46PM

Yep. Alice, if you could give us a good day for connor for us skipping next week with the van we can book the union, and book luke's car in advance if it's needed. We could always use the bike trailer if the food is just going between Xanadu and the Union.

JS

Jenny Scattergood Sun 30 Nov 2014 10:02PM

Also just had a thought - do we have plates etc to use? @bryher do you think trjfp might have disposable ones for us to use?

A

Annmarie Sun 30 Nov 2014 10:07PM

And we'd need disposable knives and forks... We could bring in all our small plates and forks from home and borrow chairs from the union... It's hard to say when we can't predict what food we'll have

B

Bryher Mon 1 Dec 2014 10:51AM

As far as I know, TRJFP just got a donation of lots of plastic plates etc, we can check with conor if its ok to use them. Do we want to try and think of a less wasteful alternative or just go with plastic plates for now?

hey gys... sorry i didnt have it set-up to notify me on my emails...
but defo think we should look into something more sustainable for giving food!!!
Also was thinking maybe do a group trip on bikes to meanwood waitrose? lots of people have shown an interest to do a skipping trip? maybe on the tuesday? or we could try the monday and keep next tuesday for now.. and sort sort something better out next terrm?

More sustainable ways of bringing in the the food is the way forward I agree. There's food in the co-op that's sometime going spare, currently there's some barely touched TVP that's been sitting there for too long that could be used. Not sure what's happening next week, but there was talk of doing some cooking for the stall. I've a lot on right now but will be up for a skipping trip next term for sure! :)

I may go skipping tonight.... if someone wants to pick up food from mine and cook tomorrow?

A

Annmarie Mon 8 Dec 2014 2:36PM

I just went to the helpdesk to ask about bookings. if we want it outside tomorrow we need to get kaye our development coordinator to have a meeting with us, fill in risk assessment blablablaaa. so please tell me if you have skipped then i can book a meeting for the morning. either way i'll organise a meeting with her this week so we understand the process on how we can set up a food stall
