Community forest garden film night and discussion Saturday 29th August 19:00 UK

RB Rakesh B Public Seen by 79

For anyone who missed the forest garden film night and discussion we will do it again. For those who did make it please do consider coming again as we will show a different documentary specifically on food forests which will be shorter, hence we will have more time to talk.

Because we will have more time I hope to get everyone into breakout groups so you can start meeting people from your area to kick start connecting with each other to make this happen. So please do pass this on to others who may be interested in forest gardening, especially to people you think may be interested in making a community forest garden.

Following on from the success of the last event we have decided to run a second event for those who missed it. We will show a different documentary which will be shorter, which will give us more time to talk at the end.

Want to know how to grow your own food in a low maintenance way that is environmentally friendly, encourages wildlife and biodiversity.

Our goal is to start a conversation about how we can do this and make a plan to create forest gardens in public places and private back gardens.

We hope to live stream the discussion to get more people engaged.

This event is organised by the Roots n Permaculture Community is especially for anyone who is interested in starting a community forest garden or creating a forest garden anywhere else, including private back gardens.

Are you seeking concrete climate solutions? (Re)connection with the earth? A way to feed the world? An understanding what regeneration really is?

Imagine a forest and the abundance and biodiversity that it creates with ease. Never needing to be watered, ever evolving into a regenerative ecosystem. Imagine magic little enclaves of trees creating shade. Now allow me if you will to take you to the edge.. where that abundance suddenly becomes edible. Its conditions now perfectly hospitable for food growing...

Food forests are probably the pinnacle of (ecological) permaculture. Bill Mollison, its founder says that if 10% of the UK started growing food we could produce 50% of what the country needs. Let alone using the open space between… So, what if we worked together to create community forest gardens in those? We'd get everyone involved, the next generation starting to learn about regeneration, ultimately contributing greatly to wellbeing, making sure no one goes hungry, and weaning ourselves off our addiction to fossil fuels...

Well, we can. So what are we waiting for? Join us for a documentary that introduces us the concept, followed by a discussion facilitated by experienced international forest garden and permaculture teacher Rakesh "Rootsman Rak", on the intricacies that is forest gardening - spoiler: it’s not just about planting trees. More like an art, a science and spiritual journey of sorts. Of systems thinking, of returning to Nature.

At the end of this discussion we will make a plan for how we move forward with our community forest garden

Reminder we have a film night and discussion tomorrow to help kick start several community forest gardens. So far we have identified 6 potential new community food forest projects. The idea is we support each other through training, cross skilling, seed and cutting swaps, hands on work, etc. Lets get together and make this happen!!!
