For me, it was like reading a detailed description of 'The Transition', but not about how it would someday happen, but how it's happening right now. If nothing else, it's a great book to share with people who ask "So how do we get there?" :)

The very best "transition strategy" I have seen to date.

Sounds like the transition to me! We need to seriously get our act together. As he says, if we don't, climate change is going to hit and result in mass starvation and collapse of our society. Its either a collapse and rebuilding, or we evolve fast.

Not had the time to analyse in any detail, Rifkin's work seems to go down well with the comments I've seen on other Pro RBE sites, would get the Full Green light from me if I didn't suspect his predictions may promote apathy.

The ideas explored in the book show how we will move forward, not by convincing our leaders that they must reorganise our social and economic relationships, but through the shift in our modes of consumption as our lives become de-commodified.

Haven't read it but if it gives any good examples that could convince people, it might be useful. He seems to be on our side at least :)

Thumbs up, all knowledge is good knowledge, people from my chapter have long heard me say that the RBE (or extinction) is an inevitability. ultimately our job is to bring it closer because. in this paradigm a child dies of hunger every 5 seconds

Jeremy Rifkin represents the strongest force for transition endorsed by the mainstream. His approach and vision will be very powerful in overcoming the inertia of the narcissistic guardians of tradition.
