Next meeting of the NFGS -- in the North?

JL Jennifer Lauruol Public Seen by 60

After the excellent launch in Lewes last month, I agreed to organise/co-organise a meeting in the North in the near future.
Best for me would be before the New Year, or at the latest, the first week in January. I will be away between Jan 8 and Feb 6.
I am very happy to host a day-long meeting at my home--my sitting room comfortably seats 6 people, and there are spaces for 3 more. There is a cozy log burning stove; kitchen for a bring-and-share lunch, and parking outside.
If desired, I could also reserve a table for 8 at my local pub/community centre 10 min walk away.
The best dates for me would be Dec 2, 9, 16 or Jan 6.
Would this work for any of you?

Dear all I've just had a message from Jennifer to support a change of venue to Leeds, and a definite date of 10th February 10:30-1530.

  • The venue https://www.woodhousecommunitycentre.com/findus is a short 5-10min bus ride from Leeds Railway Station. Thank you Ben!
  • Ben and his brother Sam look after Bedford Fields Community Forest Garden, a few mins walk from the community centre so, weather permitting, we can pop over after lunch.
  • As before bring lunch to share, and the £54 room hire will be split between us. That's only £3-4 if we have a full house. These are the kinds of costs we need grants for as we grow of course.
  • I think we can zoom/skype people in too.
  • Anyhow please RSVP as soon as you can.

The biggest question on my mind for us is what tangible role can we play in spreading forest gardening, and what structure/governance best supports this. Let's hear what other agenda items are on people's minds and we'll co-create it between now and the New Year!

Good venue, bad date for me. I'll be teaching a permaculture design course that weekend, so probably won't have time to join in remotely either. I will try to contribute in advance.

We have 4 confirmations so far: Anni, Jennifer, Ben of course and me. Please keep your confirmations coming. Sorry not to have you Philippe or John or Tomas. Perhaps some of you might be able to zoom/skype. And we'll certainly be agreeing the agenda together.
@iansesnan will you still be able to join too?

I think if we are going to progress the governance aspect we need to have a well attended meeting otherwise we can just as easily discuss it on Loomio. To me a key test in advance of establishing governance arrangements is being able to get enough of the key people together, So I think if people are keen to establish accountable governance arrangements we need to have a date at which almost all the key people can be there, I am keeping the date free but I think it would be counter-productive (and expensive!) to travel to Leeds when we couldn't resolve anything or move things forward.

Thanks for this clarity Ian. Can I suggest you and I have a conversation about how we run a fair and transparent nomination process, and aim to have enough of the shadow board present for 10th Feb to have a viable board meeting?
