Public Comment for Clark County Comp Plan
At our last Meet the Greens, I mentioned that I am working on a public comment for the Clark County Comp Plan Update Climate Chapter. I have a few local organizations that are interested in signing on.
Since our last meeting, I have been chatting with @KarissaMHP (she/her) about writing a more holistic comment across the Climate, Land Use, and Rural and Natural Resources chapters focused on:
Adoption of more aggressive Greenhouse Gas Emission Targets (aligned with City of Vancouver)
Minimizing/eliminating expansion of urban growth boundaries
No de-designation of GMA-protected agricultural resource lands
There are other chapters we could consider including like Housing, Transportation, etc. However, I believe the orgs that I am targeting for sign-on will mostly be interested in three primary points above.
There is a Planning Commission Hearing coming up on 8/20. I think it would be wise to not draft the comment until after that hearing in case there are any major shifts. I have sent an email to two Community Planning Managers to get clarity on whether submitting comment for the PC Hearing would move the needle in any meaningful way. (I don't think so but will circle back here with what they say.)
So the plan is to start the comment draft on the 21st, circulate with orgs the next week, and get it submitted 10-14 days before the final Council Work Session on 9/16. We plan to promote community engagement in public comment through my Feral Bee Garden platforms, Karissa's podcast platforms, and ideally GP SW WA social media. Depending on the reaction of the Council at the 9/16 Hearing, we may do another push ahead of the 10/6 Council Hearing.
If there are any Greens that would like to contribute to the comment, review/revise, or suggest orgs for sign-on, please reply and let us know so we can loop you in.
