In Germany you can’t introduce a product to the marketplace unless you have a recycling scheme to take it back. we need that here

We need to recycle everything and that means everything coming on to market needs a recycle plan. Nothing should go to waste.

Not all glass is the same. It's a good idea, but impractical. Better to follow examples set elsewhere and offer worthwhile incentives (personal or community based) to encourage recycling and/or reuse. But simply doing one size fits all won't work.

Generic Glass Bottle Design
so glass is washed instead of melted down and remade.

It's such a huge waste of energy to melt and remade bottles. Marketers can do whatever they want to with the labelling of the bottles but If bottles Generic bottle shape in standard sizes would maintain a higher value as they can be washed and used again for any product. It just makes sense most of glass is manufactured here for beer and wine you can If that it annoys Heineken, I don't care we'll drink New Zealand beer.

You're right but introducing this as a method for a large % of glass might
appeal more to Companies that sell products of this nature if they were
liable for the recycling costs of products they introduce to market. in
canada you are paid per can if you take it to a recycling station why has
that stopped in this country it makes sense to pay for the recycling of the
product when you buy something new?
