Shop consumables

We are out of some new consumables:
- Brake pads
- Shift cables
- Brake housing
- Tubes
There's the normal list of things to buy on the small white board at the shop, but I thought these items needed a little discussion first. I've never seen new tubes or brake pads at the shop. Can we stock these?

My apologies for the previous wall 'o text.

that stuff looks good, although I would consider headsets and BB not to be consumable as such they need to be assessed on a frame to frame basis a 113mm spindle won't necessarily work well on every frame. I mentioned before about creating a trade me account to raise extra Funds for the work shop on top of koha.

Brake/derailer cable and housing, brake pads and tubes are by far the biggest consumable. I thought it worth mention that 27" and 26" tire and tubes are by far the most common at MT 700c stuff isn't that common I have found.

@jessedoud I think question of how and when we charge is completely separate from the issue at hand which is ordering stuff right now, and i agree can be determined at a later date with full discussion. So I don't think we need a qualifier in the proposal as to how we treat the consumables (i.e. keeping out of sight) so for now let's just buy them!

p.s. my understanding from Russell is that we've got approx 550 in the bank account, plus about $100 in coins in the koha jar

@stephenparry I guess I'm just concerned that if this is going to be a couple hundred dollar purchase, that the rate of usage and the monetary compensation for the items could be such that it makes it unsustainable and that if some safeguards are not in place, we will not have the money to make another round of purchases when we need to. Is the group confidant this won't be an issue?

I do think we need a clear plan of action before we buy things. Even the most modest shopping list will cost us more than $200, which is a considerable chunk of our current funds.
The way I see it there are two kinds of consumables which we should purchase. One, those for which there is no other reasonable second hand option within the shop (ie. cables and cable housing); and, two, those for which there are acceptable second hand and effectively free options (such as brake pads and tubes).
In the first instance I, personally, unless the collective had an explicit stance, would never refuse these(cables and housing) to a peson on the basis that they could not afford koha. This is in effect to deny them a usable bicycle.
In the second instance, where there are reasonable, albeit frustrating and tedious, second hand alternatives we are not denying people access to a usable bicycle by enforcing a donation.
In an ideal circumtance (aka. Adelaide Bike Kitchen) we would have enough money be able to subsidse the expense of new things, so that a person's finances is never a factor. However, we have very little money, and need to ensure that we are able to provide the unsubstitutable essentials, not only cables, but also tools and rent, in an ongoing and viable manner.

@stephenparry sorry for the aggressive facilitation. I'm feeling some time-pressure with this :)
