Phase 2: Mind - Data capture for remote counselling service
CHALLENGE
Developing a data capture solution for Mind (National) that will evaluate the effectiveness of a remote counselling service they are offering on behalf of the Welsh government.
OUTLINE
Mind have been awarded the contract by Welsh govt. to develop and run a remote counselling service which offers 6 counselling sessions to people (need more detail from Mind) by phone. Funding was awarded on 20th May and runs for 6 months from that date. Mind have to mobilise quickly to get provision in place as soon as possible. 17 local Mind centres have signed up to deliver the program but service users will be allocated based on availability (not just location) which is a new concept for Mind.
The funding Mind are requesting will support with data capture for evaluating the effectiveness of an intervention. Without this support Mind are planning on using spreadsheets to capture data but acknowledge that this is usually poorly adopted by practitioners.
This is an interesting, neat project which could both help Mind to improve and continue this service offer but also be used in other initiatives where data capture is so crucial.
DEPENDENCIES
The wider project is already in progress and will require a team to get started within the next three weeks.

Can we see the orgs we all work for? I'd like to see what everyone does and get a vibe for their values!

I know that two of the teams pitching for this work have worked together in the past for you and could well "join up" for this project - will this give them an advantage, as we haven't worked for you before and you might not be as clear on what we could do?

@Rob Brown Hi, we are a new agency, set up 18 months ago and are looking to work with other start-ups. It would be great to know your skill set/specialism. We might compliment each other and if so maybe we could have a chat about collaborating. We are UX designers

@Debby Mulling
I have never heard of your organisation, but you have a really interesting website – shall we catch up over zoom and share experience/skillset etc.?
Debby Mulling (Catalyst) Tue 23 Jun 2020 1:40PM
@Rob Brown Thanks for the kudos on our website. A think a chat for us to get to know each other and to explore if there could be an opportunity for us to submit a proposal together, would be great. Expressions of interest closes today. Are you free this afternoon?
@Ellie Hale How do we express interest?
I will share key points, questions re the brief that we might discuss back here.

Great question! Our aim in the Catalyst Capacity team is to grow and connect the types of support available to help civil society respond to COVID-19. That means creating opportunities for more connections and sharing between collaborators, and helping build the overall collaborative muscle of the sector. We're testing a model through Digital Teams where multiple partners work together to respond to a brief, getting a chance to work with people and in ways they otherwise wouldn't have.
Another important rationale for groups of partners on each brief is that we're dealing with complex social issues, with multiple facets, and we believe this will help lead to more thoughtful, systemic solutions. So far we've found that where there has been a clear definition of different roles and skillsets, this has led to a positive outcome for all the organisations involved, and for the project itself. The varied expertise of different partners makes for deeper work that draws on existing knowledge and networks.
We totally appreciate working with others takes time and effort, and that this may result in less ground being covered as a result. We think it's worth the trade off though, because the task of helping civil society respond is a long term project, and warrants a new approach to tackling pervasive challenges (not least the structural inequalities within the sector itself). We think that's a really exciting opportunity, and would love you to help us test how it can work in practice!
If you do decide to enter into partnership on this brief, we'd hugely welcome your reflections on how it went, as we're all learning as we go :)
