Ethical Considerations Focus Group - anti-racist and equity statement

DB Dee Brooks Public Seen by 24

HI All,

@Aleks Jovanovic and I are inviting you to contribute your passion, thinking and willingness to write up Jeder's anti-racist and equity statement!

We have a draft outline (which I created based on discussions with others during the height of the BLM movement) and we really just need to "fill in the blanks" and Jederise it - see below!

Who's interested in helping us out?

****************************************************************************

Before you share your organisation’s anti-racist and equity statement, check that the following points are purposefully added.

DO

  1. Name and frame your own context and the context in the world

  2. Acknowledge the realities, impacts and pain of racism on Black lives

  3. Name the actions you are undertaking to dismantle or address racism

  4. Name what you commit to keep doing over the long term

  5. Be accountable; create milestones, review actions, seek feedback

  6. Share resources that are shared by Black people

DON’T:

  1. Develop or share a statement with no mission around equity

  2. Say you’ll commit to actions and then not do them

  3. Think a diversity statement is enough

Anti-racism resources links:

“This is a compilation of resources by Black and Indigenous leaders gathered to help us —white folks in particular— unlearn racism and colonialism, and take action for justice.”

Scaffolded anti-racist resources: This is a working document for scaffolding anti-racism resources. The goal is to facilitate growth for white folks to become allies, and eventually accomplices for anti-racist work.

Thanks Aleks,

I do have the calendar invite after all - I was looking at the wrong week!

I'll be in Darwin next week so, I'll see how my timing is for then - otherwise, I'll wait until next month!

Thanks!

Hi Dee, The next 'Ethical Considerations' Jedi is happening on 2.9.22. See below:

* 25/7 - Changed date from the 26th August, to the 2nd September.

*Update – 3 more sessions added to calendar.

Ethical considerations for unorthodox practice:

When we reflect on our engagement practice(s) as CoS, BIS, and COBU practitioners, can we think about the things that we do that stretch the boundaries, practices which might be seen as unorthodox or that might raise eyebrows with agencies such as the NDIA?

These unorthodox practices are not written into our role descriptions, and some of these are sensitive issues, sometimes presenting as dilemmas to us around the familiar topic of boundaries.

Come and join the discussions! Check out the Loomio thread for more info!

When: Last Friday of each month

Time: 3pm – 4:30pm

Hi @Dee Brooks . I'm looking forward to developing our statement. Great resources to get us thinking.
