What functions does a coordinator need for a group to operate optimally?

i) Power to edi/delete comments is needed;
ii) approve group membership;
iii) add/remove/ban group members; (remove/ban - i.e. spammers)
iv) for some public groups the power to pre-moderate comments, new discussions, and the formation of new sub-groups may be required;
v) may be an option to pre-moderate new members to a group i.e. to make sure they are not spammers;
vi) editing rights over the format of the group home page and sub-groups and the ability to delegate this to other members;
vii) the ability to close/re-open proposals;
viii) to be notified by email/notification if there is a task which needs to be done;
ix) the power to close discussions (e.g. useful for public consultations etc;

I'm sure there are many more that are needed!

Ideally there would be a system where a group co-ordinator could delegate some or all powers to other members/moderators where it is appropriate.

@neilmorris I have to say the framing of this question freaks me out! :)

How can we expand coordinators' powers? I'd prefer to ask, what's the smallest amount of power a coordinator needs for a group to function optimally.

That said, all your suggestions are pretty right on I reckon :)

Perhaps it be useful to compile a table of existing powers, and then see where the major holes are?

@richarddbartlett now changed to read more appropriately, it isn't about power, it is about the ability to do things to support the group to make decisions.

I have been thinking about this from the point of view of supporting invited members to actually join the group. My somewhat limited thinking right now would be

a way of emailing or pinging group members directly in the Loomio group
this would act like a private reminder rather than @mentioning which is very public

access to resources like the 'how does Loomio work page so building excitement is easy

mmm functions, must be other stuff, but on the other hand we have a model that works well now and in the big scheme of things we need to get a sustainable model built and in the market. @neilmorris I wonder how you would like us to prioritise all these incredible improvements and inquiries into feature improvements in the context of early stage startup. I find myself wondering about this alot. A topic for another day!
