Loomio bugs, issues and feedback
This is a public space to report bugs or feedback about Loomio.
If your report contains private information, or you would rather contact us directly, please email [email protected].
Robert Guthrie Thu 29 Feb 2024 3:15AM
@Jonathan Singer can you send me the notification? [email protected]
We are not aware of any data breach of Loomio data. My assumption is your password was leaked by another site.
Jonathan Singer Thu 29 Feb 2024 12:56AM
I just got an alert from Google that my email and password was part of a data breach that leaked my info on the dark web. I've changed my password.
Robert Guthrie Thu 25 Apr 2024 3:39AM
@Luke yeah, even companies with multiple developers (cough, ahem) have trouble making perfect experiences eh. Thank you so much for becoming our first Github supporter.
Luke Wed 24 Apr 2024 7:55PM
@Robert Guthrie
Thanks; it's not much but it's done. I have to say that the experience wasn't nice though; no way to change the currency, no possibility to not store the credit card even for a one time payment, and I had to create a ticket to the support to delete it (pending).
Nevertheless, thanks again for your work!
Robert Guthrie Sun 10 Mar 2024 9:24PM
@Luke yeah, currently, Framasoft does not contribute back to Loomio. We often get support requests from their users.
I've added Github sponsors to the Loomio repo, so if you'd like to directly contribute, there is now a way to do that.
Luke Thu 7 Mar 2024 11:04AM
@Robert Guthrie, thank again, just noticed the PR https://github.com/loomio/loomio/commit/c514727ac56567779465662df81bea8453ecebfc. Amazed that you replied to this so quickly :)
I'm not in charge of the instance and cannot just move away. In case you're interested, the association hosting it is a french non-profit trying to promote libre tools: framasoft.org.
I do donate to framasoft but I couldn't find any way to donate to loomio itself, is it a possibility ?
Robert Guthrie Thu 7 Mar 2024 10:50AM
@Luke i updated the product based on your request. Please consider using Loomio.com rather than a free option which does not support my work.
Luke Thu 7 Mar 2024 9:03AM
@Robert Guthrie Thanks a lot!
I have to ask though, is that an option for admins to do this or did you update the product?
I'm a user in another loomio instance, will this become available when the admin update the version or should I contact them?
Robert Guthrie Wed 28 Feb 2024 1:09AM
@Luke thanks for mentioning it. I've added the ability to manually set the timezone in the edit profile page. Just uncheck autodetect time zone and you can select the zone you want.
Luke Tue 27 Feb 2024 2:59PM
The missing option to set your timezone in loomio is an issue for me. As far as I remember there was a discussion about asking what would be the point of that option, I can bring you one:
Firefox, when set to prevent tracking, will show the timezone as UTC to avoid leaking your location. And because Loomio takes it from the browser without allowing to override it, any datetime I see is wrong.
Could you consider making it possible to manually override the detected timezone?

@Peter Eid - ZD Nice Could you please email the URL of the thread to [email protected] - I'll investigate
Peter Eid - ZD Nice Tue 20 Feb 2024 8:40PM
@Robert Guthrie Thanks for your answer.
It is on loomio.com.
I tried the different layout options but it did not seem to do anything at all...
Robert Guthrie Mon 19 Feb 2024 10:38PM
Hi @Peter Eid - ZD Nice, is this a thread on loomio.com or another server?
One thing to try is changing the thread layout from say.. nested to flat, and back again, sometimes that can help.
If not then I'll need to take a look at it myself.
Peter Eid - ZD Nice Tue 13 Feb 2024 8:39PM
Hi,
Posting here as, for a while, we have been encountering issues related to ordering and hiding of threads on a specific (admittedly quite large) discussion of our Loomio.
The former can be observed on the first screenshot; it is in French, but the dates are 11th Dec 2023, 12th Dec 2023 and then 23rd March 22! The discussion is ordered by "most recent first"...
The latter can be seen on the second screenshot; again it is in French but the banners signalling 'hidden' answers/threads display negative values and clicking on those (whether they have negative values or not) does not do anything.
Would you have any idea how to solve this situation? Many thanks!
david rayner Fri 2 Feb 2024 1:58AM
minor issue i have noted for a while...
a few threads i pinned to top of frontpage migrate to top of page 2.
the keeping them current (and on front page) workaround is cumbersome...(unpinning,posting repinning)
any suggestions?
Robert Guthrie Wed 31 Jan 2024 11:14PM
@Sam Rossiter great to hear you're using Loomio already, and with the chatbot integration.
We don't have plans to make threads optional at this stage, but some stuff in the pipeline could improve the experience a little for you: showing the current/recent polls card under the group description.
Then with starting threads disabled for members it should feel fairly poll specific.
Sam Rossiter Tue 30 Jan 2024 7:15PM
@Robert Guthrie Sure, I have it integrated in Mattermost as a #decisions channel. Most discussion & small decisions happen in Mattermost. When there is a 'formal' decision to make we do that in Loomio. Someone opens a consent process in Loomio (which pings the #decisions channel). Essentially we have threaded tools already, we don't wish to duplicate them.
Robert Guthrie Tue 30 Jan 2024 6:51PM
@Sam Rossiter would you like to tell me about how you're using Loomio, or intend to, so I understand why someone would want to remove the threads function?
Sam Rossiter Tue 30 Jan 2024 12:54PM
@Robert Guthrie OK thanks
Robert Guthrie Mon 29 Jan 2024 1:05AM
@Sam Rossiter Sorry, it's not currently possible to remove the "Threads" panel from the interface, but you can stop members from creating threads.
It's on the roadmap to show current proposals on front of the group page, however.
Sam Rossiter Sun 28 Jan 2024 11:09PM
As a self-hosted instance admin I would like to remove the 'threads' functionality from the user interface completely. Is that possible?
Julie Nevin Tue 19 Dec 2023 2:05AM
yes, it helps but's it's not a sure thing because our threads are variously active.
Robert Guthrie Tue 19 Dec 2023 12:38AM
@Julie Nevin thanks for the feedback. They are not easy fixes, so I'll have a think about it. Does ordering by Newest usually help to bring open threads first?
Julie Nevin Mon 18 Dec 2023 9:39PM
A request for searching threads: when I search threads for a key word, the results aren't actually that helpful. It's usually quicker for me to scroll manually through the group to find what I want. I'd like it to:
Have an option to only search open threads (maybe have that by default, and enable us to include closed threads if we want)
Give extra weight to the thread's title when determining 'best match'
Robert Guthrie Tue 19 Dec 2023 12:36AM
@Julie Nevin thanks. Fixed this just now.
Julie Nevin Mon 18 Dec 2023 9:34PM
Minor bug: When I edit a thread, and I let people know what's changed, the new comment in the thread gives the date of the thread itself, not the date I edited it. Here's a screenshot of one from today:
Robert Guthrie Tue 24 Oct 2023 10:31PM
@Julie Nevin ok fixed now. Refresh before clicking "Make a copy"
Robert Guthrie Tue 24 Oct 2023 10:10PM
@Julie Nevin ahh... I saw the error come through earlier but did not understand how it was happening. Thanks for reporting - fix is ready and will be deployed within 30 minutes.
Julie Nevin Tue 24 Oct 2023 9:43PM
A new bug: When I click 'make a copy' at the bottom of a thread, I get a blank screen.
Robert Guthrie Tue 24 Oct 2023 10:04AM
@Julie Nevin thanks. Will change "close thread" so that it does not create an entry within the thread that needs to be read. We're also going to disable comments and modifications to the thread when it is closed.
I've seen the mark as read behavior you describe - i'll try to fix it soon.
Julie Nevin Tue 17 Oct 2023 8:07AM
Similarly, when I choose 'mark as read' in the inbox for a long thread like this one, something isn't working. When I later open it up to make a comment, I still have a lot of yellow on the right hand side and it appears in my inbox again and a (1) appears by the group, until I click 'mark as read' all over again. Not a major issue, but a pain.
Julie Nevin Tue 17 Oct 2023 8:05AM
OK, here's a minor thing that bugs me: when a thread is closed, it seems to be marked unread in the system (perhaps because there's a new comment that says it has been closed). The group gets a (1) next to it, showing me I have an unread thread, but it's not in my inbox (which presumably filters out closed threads), so I have to go searching for it - or ignore the (1). It's either a task I don't need or a distraction, depending on my choice.
Either closed threads need to not be marked unread n the first place, or they need to appear in the inbox. I'd prefer the first option - after all, I can still find and reopen the thread if I want to.

@Julie Nevin thanks for the screenshot. Fixed now. (be sure to refresh your browser)
Julie Nevin Tue 19 Sep 2023 3:34AM
@Robert Guthrie weirdly just means the shape of the letter is different depending on whether it has a macron. Here's a screenshot of my post:
Robert Guthrie Mon 18 Sep 2023 10:52PM
@Julie Nevin - thanks for reporting this issue. Could you please share a screenshot of how you're seeing the macrons - ie: what "weirdly" is for you? I'm not sure I'm experiencing the same thing.
Julie Nevin Sun 10 Sep 2023 11:02PM
(On Chrome at least,) macrons display weirdly - like they are using a different font. Given the prevalence of macrons in te reo Māori, it would be good to resolve this inconsistency.

Dani Ahrens Tue 5 Sep 2023 11:01AM
Is there any way to manually mark a thread as unread?
david rayner Fri 6 Oct 2023 5:38AM
@Robert Guthrie
thanks for that...
i have often wondered (but never got to asking) how this informative metric worked.
provided members do do not paranoidedly have images barred...some providers seem to do this by proxy. i know that yahoo does if it ends up in spam and then is disinterred.
Robert Guthrie Wed 2 Aug 2023 7:27PM
@Adam Hardy we do track email opens (when users permit their email client to open images) as well as reads via the app.
The number is total number of users, not visits/opens, which would be more.
A email summary will track all it's content as being opened.
Fran67 Wed 2 Aug 2023 7:14PM
The notification emails do not contain any mechanism to tracks openings.
(I open the mails within Thunderbird and I should be aware that a mail tries to to communicate “in my back”.)
Anyway, even if there was such a system, you never could be sure that Loomio knows a reader has opened a notification mail. From me, for instance, you shouldn't know it.
I don't know what happens when a reader answers by mail.
Adam Hardy Wed 2 Aug 2023 10:31AM
Hi All, quick question: when a thread title says "Seen by 613" does that mean that 613 have visited Loomio and read the thread online, or does the notification email track email openings, so 613 people have actually opened the notification email?
Robert Guthrie Tue 25 Jul 2023 3:52AM
@Matthew Cropp thanks for mentioning this.
So it was our intention that Sense Check replaces Check.
However, if you wish for Check, you can recreate it with the Edit Template feature.
I've recorded a video showing how you might do this. Sorry it's slow - I'm slow today :)
Matthew Cropp Thu 20 Jul 2023 12:19AM
Popping in to say I miss check polls, and am not sure of quite how to replicate them in the new system.
Robert Guthrie Tue 25 Jul 2023 3:52AM
@Julie Nevin Sorry about this. I'll fix it this week.
Julie Nevin Wed 19 Jul 2023 10:03PM
All the templates we use appear to have vanished. Now we only have 'New thread' and 'New template' options to choose from when we start a new thread.
Fran67 Wed 12 Jul 2023 7:43PM
Hi @robertguthrie
I just discover the new version and have edited my original post about this to see what happens. It seems the issue with the > …
quotes in Markdown is still there.
Not a big problem. Just to say or as a reminder.
I try it again to be sure…
> This should be a quote.
Robert Guthrie Thu 25 May 2023 7:12AM
@Fran67 Thanks for reporting this. I'll add it to my list and look into it when I can.
Fran67 Wed 24 May 2023 7:53AM
And I see now another problem (see the first version of my post above):
In the line where I wrote…
The quote tag in the code part has been replaced by >
the “>” has been replaced by “& >”.
I suspect a problem in the handling of special characters in Markdown. I didn't notice any problem when using WYSIWYG. This reply has been written in WYSIWYG, as you can see (the quote line is O.K., here).
Fran67 Wed 24 May 2023 7:34AM
Problem still present in version 2.17.3
This is what I wrote in Markdown:
The preview was O.K.:
And you can see above (in my original post) how it looks after publishing it.
- The quote line appears as it must be tagged in Markdown and…
- The quote tag in the code
part has been replaced by >
Also strange: as I edit my post to correct it, >
appears in both places:
Fran67 Wed 24 May 2023 7:06AM
Sorry if I come up with a known (and solved) issue.
In Framavox (presently running Loomio version 2.15.5), quotes in Markdown (> …
) are not rendered. They are in WYSIWYG and, strangely, also in preview mode, but not anymore when published…
So I make a little trial here:
> This should be a quote.
Robert Guthrie Wed 31 May 2023 3:36AM
@david rayner actually, it seems to happen to me sometimes. I can't name how though. 😬
david rayner Thu 25 May 2023 11:30AM
@Robert Guthrie yes...it seems to have gone away to the subway.
maybe the team fixed it in the mutual dreamscape? thanks, team.
again...thanks, team. ✅
Robert Guthrie Thu 25 May 2023 7:47AM
@david rayner do you think it's possible to give me some specific instructions on how to reproduce this issue?
A few months ago I fixed similar behavior and made a fairly good improvement. Now, I can't reliably get it to incorrectly prompt me like before.
david rayner Mon 22 May 2023 12:05PM

david rayner Mon 22 May 2023 9:03AM
a heads up...
today...almost every time i want to go somewhere else, i am asked if i want to discard choices...
this is not always pertinent (sometimes a welcome reminder...)
sometimes if i cancel...it just does what i was wanting to. (especially in the non-pert cases.)
this behaviour has been escalating in the last week or so. {8^(#
and i still miss the searchable emoji...
Ulrich Schur Wed 17 May 2023 8:27PM
@Robert Guthrie YES, it's working! Bold is back for me! Well done, Rob!
Robert Guthrie Wed 17 May 2023 8:08PM
@Ulrich Schur should be fixed now. Shift + Refresh please
Robert Guthrie Wed 17 May 2023 7:48PM
@Ulrich Schur I found the issue! Thanks for your help. See this font-face declaration inside roboto.css
@font-face {
font-family: 'Roboto';
font-style: normal;
font-weight: 500;
src: local("Roboto"), url('/fonts/roboto-v29-latin-500.woff2') format("woff2");
}
I have "local" as the first place to look to find the font. Your browser is correctly looking at the local font cache and using Roboto. I should probably put "Roboto Bold" in this case, and i think it would cause a "miss", and continue to load the webfont.
Robert Guthrie Wed 17 May 2023 4:11AM
@Ulrich Schur - I think it's worth investigating, I like to try to resolve everything that is reported. I'll send you a DM about a time.
Ulrich Schur Tue 16 May 2023 6:01PM
@Robert Guthrie Yes, I opened the dev tool, refresh the page (I see all the many requests), filter for "robo*", nothing.
If I am the only person in the world with this problem, it's not worth investigating. But I'd be more than happy to go into a Zoom call and let you take a look at any time.
I am so surpised it's both my web browsers, so it seems a more fundamental issue. However, when I get the email notifications, I can see bold fine. I am also at a lose what is going on here.
Robert Guthrie Tue 16 May 2023 1:16AM
@Ulrich Schur this is beyond my comprehension! .. almost.. Did you open dev tools before pressing refresh?
Ulrich Schur Mon 15 May 2023 6:41AM
@Robert Guthrie I don't get any Roboto font loaded. Also, after reboot, it's still broken (which surprises me the most).
Robert Guthrie Fri 12 May 2023 9:20PM
@Ulrich Schur can you show me.. The dev tools panel, open on the network tab, with the filter "roboto" after you refresh the page? Should look something like this:
Ulrich Schur Fri 12 May 2023 6:23AM
@Robert Guthrie It won't show bold for me neither on Firefox 112.0.2 (64bit) or Microsoft Edge 113.0.1774.35 (64-Bit) - all on Windows 10. Last week or just even just a few days ago it was still fine. Or maybe I just need a reboot. Will report back again after the next reboot. Current screenshot below. I should maybe specify more clearly: I can select text and make it bold, but it just won't show up as bold. Across all posts and threads.
Robert Guthrie Thu 11 May 2023 9:47PM
Can confirm that bold is working on Firefox on MacOS, as well as Chrome on Windows.
Robert Guthrie Thu 11 May 2023 8:20PM
@Ulrich Schur - thanks for reporting. It does work for me:
I wonder what the difference is.
Anyone else missing bold?
Ulrich Schur Thu 11 May 2023 7:52PM
It seems no longer possible to make text bold.
david rayner Mon 27 Feb 2023 1:15AM
@Rob Guthrie no worries...u have a lot on and it is not that much of an issue.
i had a memory...one of these members always used to show as active and observing but upon talking real time with her, she said she was not. she said that her apple/ipad stuff did that on other platforms as well...hmmm
Robert Guthrie Sun 26 Feb 2023 9:37PM
@david rayner sorry for the delay with this. Should get to it this week.
Robert Guthrie Sat 18 Feb 2023 8:59AM
Actually, send me the user emails of those people who you removed, and a thread where they should not be a part of. I'll have a look.
The code says that when you remove a member, we remove their access to all threads in the group.
david rayner Sat 18 Feb 2023 8:52AM
i removed those 2 people from that particular thread but they show up in others.
only 2 people in particular...but they may be only the 2 most recent removals.
will send screen shot.
Robert Guthrie Sat 18 Feb 2023 8:25AM
Can I confirm?
You have a thread that was created a while ago. Since then some people have been removed from the group. When you click invite from that thread, the membership lists some of those removed people as being guests in the thread?
Maybe you can send me a screenshot? [email protected].
david rayner Sat 18 Feb 2023 6:39AM
not sure if this is a bug...but i will ask.
today, when inviting people to a thread, i noticed removed members on the thread members list as (guest) They will have been thread members in past...but i do not remember seeing removed guest in past.
according to the manual, they have no further access but i was not sure what guest means.
(but of course they were not on list of group members on top invite line when opened...)
Midi Berry Sun 29 Jan 2023 10:21PM
Wow Rob - that was quick! Thanks 🥰
Robert Guthrie Sun 29 Jan 2023 10:21PM
Ok, fixed. Thanks again @Midi Berry.
Robert Guthrie Sun 29 Jan 2023 8:59PM
I'll fix this now. Thanks for letting me know.
Midi Berry Sun 29 Jan 2023 7:00PM
Hi. Is anyone else getting messages that they are not currently a member of groups to which they belong (and in my case, of which I am also an admin)?
As per the attached screenshot:
It does not appear to be actually affecting my access to the groups and threads therein.
Robert Guthrie Fri 24 Feb 2023 7:21PM
@Aaron Wolf I've updated the threading code. Now when you reply, the OP is mentioned, so that should have a similar effect to you're request to say "in reply to". Additionally, threads default to 2 levels of nested reply - this change was made because you can now reply to votes in proposals.
Adam Hardy Sat 28 Jan 2023 11:33AM
I think you could write a PhD on this subject. For my loomio group of mostly old people with limited IT experience, I make the default thread type chronological, no nesting, newest first. Seems to have worked so far. I think a forum of IT programmers and superusers can deal with anything.
Aaron Wolf Sat 28 Jan 2023 1:48AM
I don't prefer the flat Discourse style. I like nesting still, and nesting even when chronological isn't really a problem. Infinite nesting as an option might be good.
But yes, the "in reply to…" link in the title string on a comment would basically fix the core issue where some situations can confuse.
Robert Guthrie Sat 28 Jan 2023 1:32AM
I hear what you're saying. It does seem confusing to switch between ordering by reply to ordering by time in some circumstances.
In this thread right now, (which is 'newest first') it's working well. An initial comment houses the following discussion, and there is no unnecessary drift right.
I did have a algo such that if replies were chronological they would not be nested, and we just nest replies where they interrupt chronology, I got a lot of confused feedback about that one too.
It's completely reasonable to enable infinite nesting as an option. It makes sense in some cases.
I can also easily add a "in reply to ..." as part of the title string on a comment, as you suggest.
Aaron Wolf Sat 28 Jan 2023 12:49AM
Ironically, while I started from the Reddit opinion, I was thinking of Discourse when currently confused here at Loomio. Discourse has the capacity to more easily jump between a reply and what it was replying to so that I can at least make the connection even though it's not shown visually. In Loomio, I can find myself unable to figure out which post a reply was for in some cases. I suspect I'd feel okay with two levels of nesting plus some way to click and see what comment a reply is tied to among the lowest-level of the nesting.
Robert Guthrie Fri 27 Jan 2023 10:39PM
Yea, we can support infinite nesting, but we're trying to avoid the conversation just drifting to the right by default. Limiting it has worked well most of the time. I'd like to know if 2 levels fixes it for you.
We're trying to strike a balance between the Discourse opinion that nesting is terrible for readability (I do not agree) and reddit approach that means many voices get buried.
It's actually a data structure rewrite when you change nesting settings. The ability to have very long threads, and send the browser only the part the user is interested in, and dynamically load the next or previous content, requires that we have all that information clearly written out so we can easily query for it as the page is used.
This means everyone sees the same thread structure. This has been good because most casual users would not change thread settings so letting an admin setup the best way improves the experience for most.
Aaron Wolf Fri 27 Jan 2023 9:25PM
Thanks, I would suggest more than 2 levels even. It could also be nice to let users choose their view rather than the nesting setting be fixed for the whole group. I don't see any way for me as a member not admin to adjust the view I see.
Robert Guthrie Fri 27 Jan 2023 7:45PM
You can enable 2 levels of reply.. either per thread or by default for all threads in the group.
Try clicking "Oldest first" on the thread context.
Here's a help page for the group default.
https://help.loomio.com/en/user_manual/groups/settings/index.html#thread-settings
Aaron Wolf Fri 27 Jan 2023 4:52AM
I'm finding threading and replies really hard to follow. It looks like Loomio shows only one layer of replies. People can reply to a reply, but then it seems almost impossible to see the context.
So, in a current topic I'm following, I see replies that say effectively "I really agree with this point, let's focus on that", and it's not clear whether that is about a top-level comment or about someone else criticizing the top-level comment.
It would be so much easier to follow conversations if threading of multiple levels was shown.
Robert Guthrie Sun 8 May 2022 9:16PM
Cool, thanks!
Fran67 Sun 8 May 2022 2:58PM
I saw it with Greenbeam, a add-on for Firefox allowing to see the third-party domains connected to a visited site through images, cookies etc. For instance, the image below, showing the link I saw to fonts.gstatic.com
, will make a side triangle to zzz.zaclys.com
:
Of course, every object from outside loomio.org will make such a “third-party site” triangle and a discussion can so become “dirty” even if the base code of Loomio is clean. But I didn't think fonts can be fetched this way. (Is it?)
Anyway, this is good news and also a good opportunity to ask the people at Framasoft to install a recent version.
For your information, they configure their 2.1.9 version of Loomio in order to avoid the link to the fonts of Google, but they have to repeat the operation after each restart.
Thanks a lot!
Robert Guthrie Sun 8 May 2022 9:08AM
How did you decide it was also the case at loomio.org?
Thanks for getting in touch, but this change has already been made. Loomio serves it's own fonts.
If Framavox update to the latest version, the problem will be resolved.
Fran67 Fri 6 May 2022 7:56PM
Hi there!
Somebody recently let me see (with Greenbeam ) that Framavox (French instance of Loomio — v2.1.9) had links with fonts⋅gstatic⋅com and fonts⋅googleapis⋅com.
After that, I realized that it was also (even more) the case at loomio.org.
This could become a serious issue. Certainly for the people concerned with the protection of their privacy, but also for legal reasons.
An example: “Website fined by German court for leaking visitor's IP address via Google Fonts”.
I find the functionalities of Loomio really useful (with your decision-making tools, that have no known equivalent), but I (and the group I belong to) frankly prefer a less performant tool than a better one, that allows a web giant to get information about me.
⇒ So, here comes at last my questions:
- Is there a easy way to get rid of these (quite possibly tracking) “services” on a particular instance?
- Have you got plans to replace these tools by your own code/fonts?
Thanks in advance for any information

david rayner Fri 23 Sep 2022 4:08AM
the search has such idiosyncracies...how is the rewrite going?
Robert Guthrie Sun 13 Mar 2022 7:43PM
oh I have a search rewrite in the works... found a great article on how to support that kind of thing.
david rayner Sat 12 Mar 2022 12:26AM
when one uses search box, it is working great....but adding just one space at end returns zero results.
does it need a reminder (but that may be messy...) written next to search,or in box, not to include spaces?
is the Loomio search boolean? (wow...that sounds like i really know what i am talking about.)

@Robert Guthrie 'save draft' is the feature that would solve most of the complaints we get at our end - autosave would be even better! People complain that they have lost a lot of work when they have accidentally navigated away from the page and the work is gone when they click 'back' in their browser. I have done this myself when using CTRL-K to insert a hyperlink into highlighted text (I do this on autopilot - I use the google suite and Word a lot, and that's the shortcut there) - in Loomio, CTRL-K takes you to the navigation bar, and when you quickly paste the link there and press enter, away you go...
Robert Guthrie Sun 13 Mar 2022 7:42PM
Oh wow. That's more the mobile OS fault that loomio, however save draft is in the near roadmap, a customer is sponsoring the work.
david rayner Sat 12 Mar 2022 12:21AM
a colleague who uses L on her mobile (not sure what sort...sorry) noticed that it was timing her out when a call (might have been no matter how long...) arrived so she would lose what she was working on. is there a way round this?

Ok, wow, nice spotting. It will be fixed in the next release, which you can subscribe to via github.

Hrrmm, that's odd. I'll look into it.
ALI Moussa Mon 29 Nov 2021 9:27AM
I'd say it's half solved :)
In the poll details page you can see all the voters but on the voting table, the voters who voted 'no' everywhere are still not visible. (tested with v2.11.6)
Robert Guthrie Sun 28 Nov 2021 8:32AM
Did that fix the issue?
ALI Moussa Fri 26 Nov 2021 7:28PM
Update done. Thanks !
Robert Guthrie Fri 26 Nov 2021 1:19PM
Please update your Loomio version, this should be fixed now.
ALI Moussa Fri 26 Nov 2021 11:21AM
Hello community. We have a "bug" on the display of the voters in the results of date poll. When a member votes 'no' everywhere it does not appear in the results so impossible to know who really voted. Here is a capture with 8 voters but only 7 appear on the detail. @Rob Guthrie
Shane Guthrie Thu 27 May 2021 9:49AM
Thanks so much, Rob. Good to see the reason; hope the long URL problem will be OK.
I used Loomio years ago in another role, another organisation. Great to see the improvements over time.
Robert Guthrie Wed 26 May 2021 9:56PM
Sorry about that. I used too much CSS trying to fix a problem where long URLS would blow the width of the page out.
Deploying a fix now, thanks for bringing this up.
Shane Guthrie Wed 26 May 2021 7:55AM
Thanks for a great service; it's helping flexible engagement for groups I volunteer with..
Hyphenation
How do I remove hyphenation? I can't find anything in the manual or help search.
It seems to be on automatically, and it makes some strange choices.
In long lines of text across a large window, hyphenation impedes readability rather than improving it, as there is little need to maximise use of available space. I would never, for example, split a word between lines in an A4-sized letter. I might, on a rare occasion, split a word by using a hyphen if it's a narrow column in the style of a newspaper.
I see that help items and the user manual text is not hyphenated. Why would splitting words and hyphenation be applied to user text?
I wonder what the thoughts were behind hyphenation applied to user text in discussion threads, and how there might be an option to either prevent automatic hyphenation when creating text, or to turn it off when reading threads.
Robert Guthrie Fri 23 Apr 2021 9:10PM
Hi Adam,
We have, in our near term roadmap, a plan to build a proper "email to group" function, where your group will have an email address based on it's URL. So [email protected] can receive emails and turn them into threads.
I think you may be able to get your current plan working with the right forwarding rule in Gmail, but I don't know the correct way to achieve that.
Sorry, that's all I can do right now.
Robert
Adam Hardy Fri 23 Apr 2021 5:17PM
I discovered the problem. It's not Loomio, it's Gmail. Instead of forwarding the incoming emails from the account using the gmail email address, Gmail just sort of volleys the email across with no changes, so the forwarded email also seems to come direct from whoever email us, rather than our gmail account. So Loomio rightly ignores it.
Is there a work-around that I'm not thinking of here?
I thought I could make the thread public, so anyone can email onto it if they knew the Loomio reply email address, but then of course the thread would appear to the general public.
Adam Hardy Thu 22 Apr 2021 11:36AM
Hi Loomsters,
I am trying to set up gmail to forward incoming emails from our official email address to Loomio, in particular to get them to land in a thread. Setting up gmail to forward emails was easy, and then I added the email address into Loomio as an account in itself, so it could post.
I figured I'd used the reply-to email from a Loomio notification email on the thread, which worked when I sent an email to the thread from my email address, and then when I sent one from the gmail account I'm talking about, but then it just failed to arrive when I set it up as the forward destination.
This is the email address I'm using - maybe I should use a different set of tokens before the @ sign?
d=462014&u=983027&[email protected]
As I said though, it worked for the email address once for a direct mail, but not for a forwarded email. Is there maybe a spam filter on Loomio's incoming email component that might be silently rejecting it because it's forwarded?
david rayner Sat 10 Apr 2021 10:59AM
thanks for all that you and the team do...🙏
Robert Guthrie Fri 9 Apr 2021 11:05PM

Hi @Laurène - ZD Nice I'm looking into this now. Thanks for the helpful info.
Laurène - ZD Nice Thu 1 Apr 2021 10:51PM
Hi guys, thank you for all you're doing to get Loomio better 😊
Like some of you, our group is victim of grey boxes (computer or smartphone, it's the same 👹
It's recurrent since last year despite refresh and refresh again, even after clearing temporary storage...
What is really strange is that during one second, while the page is loading, we can see the last comment appearing (last screenshot)
but personally i found a tip : add "/100" to the url to go to the 100th message of the thread for exemple. And after i go up to read the most recent post : a bit fastidious but it works 🙈 Or click on the time line on the right when there is one ➡️
Well, one of our thread is mainly affected (see pictures) : https://www.loomio.org/d/eQ4vhFHB/communication-relations-ext-rieures
@Rob Guthrie please help 🙏
However, how to prevent this kind of bug ? Can you know where it come from ?

david rayner Tue 30 Mar 2021 10:31PM
another oddity...when linking from email to thread and then logging in...at my end, it requires another refresh in order to gain access to react/reply...
maybe this in the same class of error u speak of?

david rayner Wed 7 Apr 2021 11:29AM
aha adam and @Rob Guthrie ...i think i did similar steps at some stage in my intuitive thread-bothering/whack it with a hammer style amateur wrangling ... i did not have any idea but that is what i did and now the thread seems to be working fine. (just tested it again 47 secs ago.)
i did it other way around...un-nested then re-nested... i would un-nest to re-test but i need to go to b-ed
Adam Hardy Tue 6 Apr 2021 1:09PM
Yes it is still happening. Here's the URL - it's private but you have super privileges?
https://www.loomio.org/d/E69sV2CQ/engagement-subgroup-meeting-monday-march-29th-2021
I discovered a work-around. If I tell Loomio to set the message ordering to nested and back again, my new message will appear :)
Robert Guthrie Tue 6 Apr 2021 10:06AM
Hi Adam, is this still happening for you? Post the URL of the thread (or private message it to me) and I'll look into it.
david rayner Tue 30 Mar 2021 8:14PM
you must have done it in your sleep as the thread i drew attention to is working fine now.

i just told rob....and he fixed it by the next day... he is the one...and greg.
excuse me for using u as an excuse to deride touchscreens. (like i need one...)
Adam Hardy Tue 30 Mar 2021 9:26AM
No, I'm on a laptop and saw the fleeting glimpse. What I meant by work-
around was any way that might fix the thread - adding another message
maybe, or logging out and back in?
david rayner Tue 30 Mar 2021 9:16AM
you need to ask @Rob Guthrie about that last query...and include a link to the page that is giving u jip.(that is my sole technical term...)
i assumed it affects everyone but u asking the question makes me think i need ask other members...
i also realise that u must use a touchscreen as my F5(refresh) workaround to spot the post fleetingly would have no equivalent? i despise dislike touchscreens...for me.
Adam Hardy Tue 30 Mar 2021 8:59AM
Seeing this too! Or more to the point, it's what I'm not seeing 😆
Does it just affect me or does it affect everyone reading the thread? I'm wondering why it hides my message. I see other people's messages on the thread, although no-one has posted after me so maybe it's just the end message.
Is there a work-around that I can use to make it show my message?
david rayner Sun 28 Mar 2021 10:51AM
thank u.
Strange how it was just that one thread...all others seem to be working just fine but i will keep my eyes open...🗿
Robert Guthrie Fri 26 Mar 2021 10:15PM
Shocking. I'm sorry!
I'm working on the new thread page which will remove the whole class of errors.
david rayner Fri 26 Mar 2021 11:41AM
aha... @Rob Guthrie i came here to report a strange bug and... it is exactly what Xavi was experiencing in previous post.
i received email notification of a new comment from mar 24 from a member
https://www.loomio.org/d/po3SUTQX/monthly-pool-meeting
it was not there ! but f5 shows it momentarily and after a few reviews i realised there was a post i had made on feb 10 that is not remaining either...last obvious post is from jan 22.
this may be part of why our recent organising of meetings has been...retrograde.
i cannot find the same happening in any other threads...hmmm...mercurial...
Robert Guthrie Tue 10 Nov 2020 8:39AM
Hi @Xavi - are you still having issues with Loomio, I think we've fixed what you raised.
Robert Guthrie Sat 7 Nov 2020 8:09PM
Yes! Tragic isn't it. I'll sort it today.
Xavi Sat 7 Nov 2020 7:28PM
Hi Rob thanks for your suggestion. It's funny because there is also a bug in the thread I created here on Help. When refreshing my screen with F5, I can see your comment for less than half a second and then it vanishes, very strange.
david rayner Wed 11 Nov 2020 7:10AM
thanks rob...i had meant to say that once the initial person completed the loop the next day then more people could be added.
all good...
Robert Guthrie Tue 10 Nov 2020 8:39AM
Hi David.
Re-try your add member process today. We've fixed a few things.
Yes, unfortunately the realtime collab editor has not graduated out of beta yet, it was this feature that was going to also provide the "you cant lose your work" feature. We've got another approach to try.
Please assume that my spelling errors are intentional. Bugs are not, however.
david rayner Sat 7 Nov 2020 11:04AM
@Rob Guthrie love new features...but the direct thread, once setup for one member, could (or would?) not find members for additional entry. the other person has not yet seen this thread.
and the other dayish...i found the 2.4.0 release notes and they said that our comments would no longer be lost...i tested this and could not find a situation where they were retained. what was i doing wrong? or is that out of date?
also spelling error on github release notes...Thread and Poll edit notificaitons
pedantry rains supreme!! 😀...🙊...🗿
ps i wasnt sure where else to send this heads up...
Robert Guthrie Sun 5 Jul 2020 9:44PM
I'm sorry you are having this experience!
I'm always shaving time off the load process. I don't have historical data, but I can tell you there has been a number of ways we've improved this recently and I will keep it up. Hopefully it will start to feel light and snappy for you soon.

My main issue with Loomio 2.0 is that it is just too slow. It seems to take ages for it to load. At least in Firefox on Ubuntu and Android anyway.
Robert Guthrie Thu 21 Jan 2021 9:54AM
thanks for raising this.. I'm slowly processing it in my head and trying to see if there is an easy way to do it.
Fran67 Thu 21 Jan 2021 8:20AM
@Rob Guthrie
When I say “anybody”, I mean “anybody of the group”, of course.
Fran67 Wed 20 Jan 2021 11:17AM
Hi Rob.
Thanks for your fast answer.
I agree: The "You have a new notification in your loomio group" version of email notifications would be fairly horrible.
But it should allow not to share content with companies we don't trust.
Maintainig a white or black list is not feasible and should probably not make sense, because my white list could have elements of your black list (or the inverse).
Simply, the administrator of a group could have the possibility to select the option “don't include any content of this group in notification mails”, so nobody could be responsible (at least by mistake) of leaking content to his (bad) mail provider.
And maybe Loomio could limit the sending of such empty messages at a rate of once a day?
As I write this, i think of another option that could do the job another way:
Let the second part of all the user's addresses visible to anybody (in my case, you could now that I'm at “…@dossogne.be”, but nothing more). This would allow anybody to say that an address is not O.K. even without knowing what the exact address is.
Maybe easier and… less horrible? :grinning:
François
Robert Guthrie Tue 19 Jan 2021 8:11PM
Hi Fran. Thanks for bringing this up - it sure is complicated eh. I think there is a lot of work to be done here, and the least of it is software development.
I'd be very interested to learn what other SASS businesses or hosts are doing to address this issue. Surely there must be some consensus building within blog posts from other products/orgs as they get to grips with this.
The "You have a new notification in your loomio group" version of email notifications would be fairly horrible..but could be done, but then one would need to maintain a list of bad hosts, or good hosts, or the user must enable it or.. it's just a rubbish job - and any work I do at this stage does not feel well informed enough to confidently address the problem.
Fran67 Tue 19 Jan 2021 9:14AM
Hi @robertguthrie ,
I hope I'm not busy in a wrong discussion, as version 2.0 is now an old one.
I'm a user of Framavox, an instance of Loomio presently running version 2.1.9.
I'm wondering if i'm the only one mentionning the problem explained here above.
I think it could be an issue for many users in the European Union : on july, 16th 2020, the Court of Justice of the European Union stated it was illegal to upload personal data of european citizens to services under U.S. jurisdiction.
If an organization runs or uses a trusted Loomio instance, everything is in place to offer the needed confidentiality. But if a single participant of a group uses a “wrong” mail service (e.g. Gmail, which EULA states Google reads the content of the mails and is operated by a U.S. corporation…), all messages posted in the group are exposed to inspection by people and companies that the other participants don't want to trust.
I can't know how much work this would be for you, but even the possibility to block all notifications by mail could be useful. (Though I think a neutral reminder, as proposed above, would be necessary to avoid that people just forget about checking their Loomio groups.)
At this time, the only possibility to avoid releasing content to Gmail, Hotmail, etc. is to ask the group members to use a trusted mail provider… and to trust them.
Thanks for your time and, again, for Loomio!
Fran67 Fri 3 Jul 2020 12:28PM
I'd say to keep it simple: simply allow the manager of a group or sub-group to choose for No Content At All In Any Mail Notification as an option. From there on, all email notifications would be limited to “Somebody mentioned you in a post” or “your are required to answer a poll in the group …”, but absolutely no content at all, in a way that Google (who's privacy policy says: “We will read your mails”) and other operators could not know what information is exchanged (or even about what people talk in this group).
If activists or people caring for their privacy are interested in such a functionality, I think even the title of a discussion or a poll could be too much. Same rationale for context and details (they will discover it by opening Loomio, where “Unread threads” is very useful).
The group name is the only information that could be necessary or useful to go and find the useful post or poll.
Allowing to choose if usernames and discussion title could be an advantage, because it allows to knows whether it's an important or urging matter, but this shouldn't make Loomio a too complicated thing to use. (Une usine à gaz, as we say in French )
Thanks for your attention and help.
Robert Guthrie Fri 3 Jul 2020 5:52AM
Hi Fran, yes this is possible.
What information would you say is necessary and what can you leave out?
Discussion title, poll title?
discussion context and details?
Group name?
User names?
Fran67 Thu 25 Jun 2020 12:30PM
Privacy in mail notifications… to others
The question of a member on our Framavox group could be interesting for some of Loomio's users.
In short:
How do I prevent other members of my groups to let Loomio send the content of my posts to their mailbox, hosted by companies I don't trust or I don't want to make the life easy.
It's true that you don't know which mail provider the others are using and that mail, by design, is less secure than a Loomio service.
I searched the documentation and I found how I can prevent notifications to my mailbox, but I think there is no mean to prevent the content of a (sub-)group to be sent to anybody.
Don't you think it could be a useful functionality to forbid the content to be integrated into the notification mails, as an option for a group or subgroup? One would receive something like “X mentioned you in the discussion …”, but not the post itself.
Do you think this could be feasible?
Thanks in advance!
Robert Guthrie Thu 28 May 2020 2:58AM
Thanks for the detailed report, I'll get onto it

Second time this week where I've had unexpected/ incorrect behavior from Send Poll modal's quick-select (Members of thread, Members of group)
In the most recent case, upon starting a poll, the modal incorrectly showed that there were only (5) members of group (there are 7); clicking invite to vote again, now I see (6) as depicted below along with a funny (-1) not yet invited. Detail: 6 of the 7 members are Admins of this subgroup.
The earlier case was also in a subgroup of Enspiral – Members. Whether I clicked "Undecided people" or "Members of Members", the number was short of the truth. (To reproduce, go to the most recent Membership proposal)

I am using Firefox (latest) on Ubuntu 18.04 with KDE
there I had to hit tab to get the paperclip then shift-tab to come back to here. I had to use keyboard arrow keys for that, the mouse cursor couldn't do it.
EDIT: here's the recording, attached gif
Robert Guthrie Sun 24 May 2020 11:08PM
could you share a video about this problem Aaron? Also what browser and OS? (sorry if you've already shared this, I'm replying by email)
Aaron Wolf Sun 24 May 2020 10:59PM
I'm still having the problem where I can't use my mouse cursor to move the text cursor in a comment field! If I click on the comment field, the text loses focuses. I can't select text with the mouse cursor either. No interaction works with the mouse except for outside of the text entry field. The only way to get the field active again is to tab-through the items until it is active again.
Robert Guthrie Mon 8 Jun 2020 3:17AM
Hi Fran, sorry for my slow reply. Yes, we've seen this but are not yet able to bring back the save draft functionality we had in Loomio 1, sorry.

Reminder… (“Dealing with unposted comments”)
Hello,
I don't know if this is necessary, but I didn't notice any reaction to my post in objet and it might have been posted on a wrong time. I'd be happy to know if you saw it already.
Thanks in advance !
Robert Guthrie Thu 21 May 2020 6:53AM
Right, mark as read used to be called dismiss, it does not actually mark stuff as read, maybe it should.. But it notes that until there is more stuff, you're not interested.
I think we've learned from this UX, that we want actual mark as read, plus a good mute until X feature.
john gieryn Wed 20 May 2020 2:41AM
Repost of a bug a nested under another bug for clarity (link to that post)
Bug = Unread messages keep reappearing even after I click read
To reproduce: Last week I used mark as read on a thread that had a lot of old comments that occurred before I joined group.
There was a new comment, and I went and read it.
Subsequently, I saw it was unread... I went in again and it brought me to the same new comment, but I also could see that there was "106 unread"
I've marked it as read and after hard refresh still appears read... I'll update here if I see anything else and try and get the console too.
john gieryn Thu 21 May 2020 9:46PM
@Rob Guthrie added the link to this one above ^

Another grey boxes thing in this old thread:
grey boxes past a certain date will not load (all comments previous to the one appeared have loaded)
also the polls i know are in there are not appearing (i guess they are grey boxes).
(you'll also notice the Timeline is broken a bit)

Re: the latter (unrelated?) bug:
-
Thread stayed read
I think the unread comments were just below where the the app dropped me upon entry to the thread, as when I clicked into the thread (no unreads) it dropped me in the middle again, and I happened to scroll down and see a couple yellow highlighted comments
Greg Kan Tue 12 May 2020 11:24PM
can you paste me the URL john ?
john gieryn Tue 12 May 2020 11:19PM
Unrelated? Smaller bug:
I can't seem to get the messages in this thread 'read'. When I click to the group, and then click back in, it doesn't take me to any specific message (just drops me somewhere randomly in the middle). I'm going to mark as read now and see what happens
john gieryn Tue 12 May 2020 11:14PM
@Rob Guthrie @Greg Kan just came upon this large oddity:
Greg Kan Wed 13 May 2020 7:20AM
Totally fair enough! We are always looking to make UX improvements and will look into this.
Fran67 Wed 13 May 2020 7:15AM
Thank you for your answer.
You're right! I found the “invite people to vote” and “…” buttons at the very bottom of the poll.
Maybe it could be a bit more ergonomic or user-friendly if these buttons were placed above the choices to vote for (a time poll can be long), but there is no bug.
I'll go get better eyes.
Greg Kan Tue 12 May 2020 11:37PM
Hi @Fran67
If you click the dots/ellipsis you should see the "Edit" option. The "Change vote" feature is actually completely different from editing the poll settings themselves, as you've probably observed!
Here's a screenshot:
You should also be seeing the "invite people to vote" button whether or not you have voted, as shown in the screenshot?
Let me know if you find anything else!
Fran67 Tue 12 May 2020 8:56PM
Can't edit the settings of a poll I just created…
… if I don't vote first.
This is confusing: it's not possible to invite people to vote, if you didn't do so at the end of the creation of the poll, nor to edit the settings of the poll if you made a mistake.
It seems that you have to make the button “change vote” appear (by voting) in order to get access to the other options.
john gieryn Mon 18 May 2020 12:00AM
Different bug(?)
So after the above things happened, I reopened Loomio and went into the group-specific email notifications and set them to "ignore"
I was surprised to receive an email notification 2 days ago (PERSON invited you to join THREAD). I checked and indeed my group email setting was still "ignore" as I had recently set it. Clicking into the thread and checking my thread-specific email setting, for some reason this is "normal" even though the thread appears to have started after I'd set group setting to "ignore"
john gieryn Mon 11 May 2020 10:09PM
Funny behavior after clicking 'email preferences' from a Loomio product email
It brought me to my global notification settings (not too surprising although not the settings I wanted to change)
I try to navigate to the group in question, and see a flat list of all my groups and subgroups mixed together
Clicking on the group in question, I get the following 404 and funny URL
The first time I hit the back button, still a 404 but the URL has changed to https://www.loomio.org/g/undefined
Semi-related note:
I always find it a little disconcerting to see the "LOG IN" on my top right, I feel less certain the changes I make will take affect

Dealing with unposted comments
Hello and thank you for Loomio!
I'm new here and after reading some threads, I hope I post this one in the right place.
I'm very distracted and it happens that I leave a comment unposted. With the previous version, I retrieved an unposted comment where I left it, even weeks or months later.
With the new version, unposted comments seem to disappear if I leave the page and then come back. (I guess my computer will hear ugly words, one day…)
I think people like me should get a message when they try to leave a page where a comment is left open/unposted. Is it possible?
(The former way of working was better, and should be ideal if there was a special reminder, like “Unpublished post(s)” in the left column, near “Recent threads” and “Unread threads”, for instance. But I suspect this is a lot more work.)
Thanks in advance!

fix for this is now live, but it does not fix for previously mentioned people, only going forward
john gieryn Thu 30 Apr 2020 10:13PM
Makes sense.
One small simplification, perhaps, may serve:
-
When you 'invite people to vote' who are not members of your group, I reckon that (pop-up) language in the app could make it clear that you are also inviting them to be a guest of this thread
then who can vote (currently) = members of group + guests of thread
that future tickbox would toggle away from the former to who can vote = those invite to
Robert Guthrie Thu 30 Apr 2020 10:06PM
Seems like it might be a good idea to write something like this into the app or help, soon. Who can vote? seems like useful in-app info.
Robert Guthrie Thu 30 Apr 2020 10:05PM
And, in the coming months, we'll make a checkbox option, so that you can create a poll where ONLY people invited to the poll directly can vote in it.
Robert Guthrie Thu 30 Apr 2020 10:04PM
To summarize:
Anyone who is a member of the poll's group, or a guest of the poll's discussion, or has been invited to the poll directly, can vote in a poll.
Inviting someone to a poll, within a discussion, gives that person access to vote in the poll, and comment in the discussion, but does not make them a group member.
We'll be making someone to show who are the participants in a discussion, and if they are guests or members, soon.
The poll page shows all the stances in a poll, which is also a list of everyone invited to the poll.
Robert Guthrie Thu 30 Apr 2020 9:57PM
inviting someone to a poll, if it is part of a discussion, also gives that person guest access to the discussion
Robert Guthrie Thu 30 Apr 2020 9:46PM
hrrmm no that's different.I would love to be pointed to an example of the problem you're talking about. (before a workaround is used)
A stance (ie: being invited to the poll), will always give you access to the poll because it's an access record in itself. (key part of the new architecture I've been talking about)
john gieryn Thu 30 Apr 2020 9:37PM
cool thanks I think this will also fix the other weird behavior i saw where we tried to do a stand-alone time poll, invited people to the poll, and then one user couldn't access it. Sukie, who was running it, fixed it by adding them as Members to the group.

john gieryn Thu 30 Apr 2020 9:16PM
@mentioning someone in my parent group in the thread of a subgroup they do not belong to does not give them guest access to the thread, but still gives that user a notification
(My expectation was that @mention
– in a context – functions the same as invite people
)

Hrmm. I cannot reproduce with Safari 13.0.5. Am deploying an update to Tiptap now.
What version of Safari do you have?
Robert Guthrie Sun 26 Apr 2020 8:40PM
Well, while you're there, if there is anything simple that would be a big improvement for the markdown editor, let me know.
Sam Toland Sun 26 Apr 2020 10:25AM
No worries - thanks for the attentiveness (I'm making do with the markdown editor at the moment - which does the job most of the time, even though I like the new editor TBH).
Robert Guthrie Sun 26 Apr 2020 8:39AM
I'll update it tomorrow and test with those browsers then. Sorry for the hassle!
Sam Toland Sun 26 Apr 2020 8:30AM
It appears in my primary group, but as you see on the vid - I am on this thread when I am reproducing it on the video. Haven't found a place I'm not finding it. (Only weird thing is that it was happening on and off, and now all the time - at least apparently).
I've just tested it again on a couple of browsers.
I've replicated it on Brave (Chromium Browser) + Safari - OSX High Sierra. But I've just tried Chrome - and the editor is working as expected.
If it was just Brave - I suppose it might be worth forgetting about (you can't make it bug-free across every conceivable browser) but given it is Safari - it might be worth persisting with.
Having said that - if I'm the first person to have this issue, it can't be very pervasive. It is a really noticeable issue when it occurs, that interferes with the normal use of Loomio, so others would have raised it by now.
Anything thanks for keeping me in the loop.
Robert Guthrie Sun 26 Apr 2020 7:59AM
Sorry, I've been both swamped with work, and kind of shocked about this.
I have no idea how you're seeing that behaviour. I can't reproduce it at all. I think I need more information.. Is it in an group, any thread, any browser? What if you are another user? Or are there some combos where it does or does not happen?
The editor is based on TipTap which is fairly well used, there is an update available. I'll update it tomorrow and let you know.

I wonder if you could send me a video of what is happening, because I don't quite get it yet..
Sam Toland Thu 23 Apr 2020 12:20PM
I am replying to this comment from Safari.
I am having the same issue unfortunately :/ - I really hope I'm not doing something so stupid, that nobody has ever done it before!
Robert Guthrie Thu 23 Apr 2020 11:58AM
Wow. I've not seen that before. I'll look into it first thing tomorrow. In the meantime, if you have a moment, can you test another browser and let me know the results?
Sam Toland Thu 23 Apr 2020 11:27AM
Hi Folks - I'm having a persistent issue. Which doesn't always happen.
Issue: I am editing the context of a thread - a highlight text and click the button to change to a header. The whole context changes to header. I can't change it in isolation.
I've actually tried to add a header in this comment, and it changes everything to header. (I've left it in, for emphasis).
I'm using Brave (Chromium) browser - it may just be me, if it isn't I'm surprised someone else hasn't raised it.
Thanks in advance.

We set up a simple pool to explain basics functions to our new team members, and despite me making a vote, it didn't count. The yellow confirmation button "vote" doesn't respond. I tried to reload the page, and do it again, but still, no response. I wonder if you have an idea about what's wrong.

This is not a bug report but a benchmark. I present to you the 214 replies long Membership prices 2020 from the Borderland Loomio. It's a pretty good place to go for testing how the 2.0 client behaves with huge threads. It's also one of the messier advice processes we've had, so it's also good research material for process geeks.

@david rayner a rather delayed response but you are now able to re-open closed threads if you're an admin!
david rayner Wed 22 Jan 2020 8:29AM
i had neglected to say that the closed thread was closed to see if closing meant something new and from experience of my pool group,i expected (nay....assumed!) to be able to open it again if not. (but i am an admin...hence the question when i could not.)
i have ruminated in the past as to whether it was a good idea or not for anybody to just make a conversation go away then i experienced a valuable but mildly uncomfortable convo being goneified in our group as optimal for the deleter but not for the group...hmmm...
Robert Guthrie Wed 22 Jan 2020 5:43AM
No, that's not what we intended. Would you expect that you need to be the author or group admin to close or reopen a thread?
Also, if anyone can edit the context (which is a great setting IMO), then should anyone be able to close/reopen it?
david rayner Wed 22 Jan 2020 3:31AM
is it intentional that anyone viewing can close a thread but only admin(or is it only members?) for that group can reopen?

Weird unread behaviour; I just went into the thread "PODS CHECK-IN" and scrolled around to make sure all was 'unread'. I checked and indeed it disappeared from my Unread Threads (etc.).

I've gone through and tried to clear the thing while screen capturing; have shared by email.
Mark read may have cleared it permanently this time; will report back if not. FWIW: I get a NotFoundError: Node was not found
when I hit Mark read.
Greg Kan Sun 5 Jan 2020 11:21PM
A customer has also reported the behaviour regarding invitations to subgroups as 'unintuitive'
Robert Guthrie Mon 23 Dec 2019 8:52AM
Thanks for documenting this. I'm aware of this behaviour and it's actually how it's intended. The unintended part is the "auto accept" of membership (as you put it). Yes, we can't really change this until 1.0 is retired. Great to have it noted in here.
john gieryn Mon 23 Dec 2019 4:11AM
Similar to above, when I invite people to more than one subgroup at a time from a subgroup:
the invited user will auto-accept the invitation to the subgroup from which they were invited, but have to accept-by-email to access the other ones
@Rob Guthrie still not sure if this is too edge-case to be priority before 1.0 deprecation but thought I'd make you aware.
john gieryn Mon 23 Dec 2019 4:07AM
Invite people (from subgroup)
Interesting behaviour when I invite someone to a group via a Subgroups's Members' tab (ticking the parent group's box and/or other subgroups')... it may be that the below behaviors are best addressed once 1.0 can be deprecated but thought I'd document...
It seems that – unlike invitation from the parent group's Members tab – this kind of invitation requires the user to accept via email.
The member does not appear as "invited" in any other subgroups' Members tab except for the subgroup from which they were invited.
If invited user doesn't accept from email, they will start seeing activity in Recent threads (maybe Unread too?) but nothing in the navbar... there's currently no notification for being invited to group, as @Greg Kan and I have chatted about.
Navigating to a thread (or notification eg @mention) of the subgroup, the parent group then appears in the navbar with just the one subgroup I was invited from (and sometimes a public group)
This seemed to accept the invitation for the parent group, but I still could not see the other subgroups I'd been invited to.
Navigating to one of the subgroups I'd been invited to, there wasn't an option to Join. I had to go back to my email and hit Accept.

Grey oblong is the placeholder for something that is loading. For me, they load within 3 seconds, 100% of the time. usually faster & often before they're on screen.
We have had a problem in the past where an ad blocker updated it's banlist to include '/events' which is a word I use within the loomio api, and so they appeared grey because the requests were blocked by the ad blocker - but I think that was an error they fixed within 24 hours.
My current confidence in the thread page is set to 'quite high', so it's likely to be an issue with a browser extension or your internet connection dropping some requests.
(edit: however it is curious it only happened on this thread. that I cannot explain)

I agree about the features page, our intention is that we convert the "What's new in Loomio 2.0" into a features page .
Marco Giustini Sun 8 Dec 2019 7:36AM
@Rob Guthrie I wish to propose some improvements for a better usability on the home page. It's unclear that the group you start is not free, but is a time limited trial. You have to add more explanations. First I propose to add a "Features" link to a page on the top-right, between "Blog" and "Help" links. On the "Features" page you need to explain syntetically the Loomio features, already explained in the "Help" page with an explanation of different features of different plans. Second I propose to add a subtitle to the button linked to /start_group and to the text "Start a group for free" with this text: "Try a Loomio 14 days' free trial and then update to one of our paid plans" with link to "Prices" page.

More bug in this area
-
Retried the process with one variation I mentioned above:
logged into google then tried to Sign in with Google
and additional variationsigning up from link inviting me to vote on a poll
Got same result, looping behavior, my pre-populated email address stays in the form "or, enter your email"
So I logged in by email and encountered related bug #2:
Clicked the "get photo from Google account"
Loomio reloaded back to the Sign in page (without my email pre-populated)
@Rob Guthrie @Greg Kan
john gieryn Wed 4 Dec 2019 3:38AM
yep same issue FF (incognito window) | OS X
I click sign in by Google
Prompted to log into Google and I log into account (Note: this account email has a Loomio profile, but set up to log in with password)
Loomio returns me to the Sign in modal
let me know if you need to test other cases such as 1.) already signed into Google, and 2.) trying to sign up with an google account where the @gmail.com email is not already associated to a Loomio account
Greg Kan Tue 3 Dec 2019 9:35PM
hey @John Gieryn , weirdly this is all working for me today, both signing in to an existing account with google, and signing up to a new account with google. can you try again?
john gieryn Tue 3 Dec 2019 2:24AM
Bug when I try to sign up with a Google account:
I click sign up by Google
I choose a Google account that doesn't have a Loomio user account
I get a 400
Afterwards, if I try to click
Sign in with Google
the page reloads and shows me the sign in modal again
@Rob Guthrie I spoke to Greg about this in-person FWIW
Greg Kan Tue 3 Dec 2019 2:00AM
is there meant to be an in-app notification when a user has been invited to a group? currently it doesn't show up, and is of type "groupAnnounced" rather than "userAddedToGroup"

this is currently the intended behaviour

Oh, that's news to us. Thanks for saying!
Laurène - ZD Nice Tue 3 Dec 2019 3:57PM
in fact I'm working on Safari 😉 so the problem of making things twice is still there. But ok when I work on firefox it appears below 👍 good job ! Let's do the same for safari ? 😆
Greg Kan Mon 2 Dec 2019 3:37AM
hi @Laurène Ghiglia - ZD Nice, you can now find the bold, italicize, underline and strikethrough commands on the menu below, instead of the floating menu, for Firefox (as the floating menu seems to be broken on Firefox). please refresh the page if you don't see this change!
Robert Guthrie Sun 1 Dec 2019 11:52PM
Thank you for the detailed report, Laurène. Very helpful!
We notice that the problem is only happening on Firefox browsers. We hope to fix this as soon as we can and will update here as we do.
Laurène - ZD Nice Sun 1 Dec 2019 9:58PM
Hi every one. Sorry if my english is not so good, I do my best (I'm from France).
Thank you @Michael Elwood-Smith to invite me to share my feedback here 🤗
Today I wanted to share some experience with italic/blod button. I've already search in the discussion and find a comment of @Joriam Philipe from juillet 24, on the same problem. So I made a screen video capture 😎
In fact, each time i want to apply the italic or bold effect I need to do twice to obtain the result. It's the same when I want to add a link :
I underline the text I want to modify, I click the icon and nothing happens 😟
So I try to find the toolbox by moving the mouse over the underlined text, but never reappears, unless I click right on the underlined text 🤔
Then I do the manip an other time... underline my text to modify... click the icon... AND oh miracle : then it works ! 😆
Is it possible to fix this little bug please, in the goal to make the manip once ? and also maybe to have the toolbox always appearing (for exemple with emoticon et others buttons below) because like that it is not very intuitive I think 😉

mute/unmute actions removed in 2.0.46
john gieryn Thu 28 Nov 2019 10:03PM
Still an option from Unread and Recent threads page/ 'thread preview'
Robert Guthrie Thu 28 Nov 2019 5:02AM
oh.. I thought we'd removed the Mute action actually.
john gieryn Thu 28 Nov 2019 5:01AM
No.
The only reason I can think of this being a slight priority is that if I accidentally mute the wrong thread then I have to go try and figure out which group page it's related to
Robert Guthrie Thu 28 Nov 2019 4:58AM
yea, it's gone. The intention is to show "subscribed" threads in the interface shortly. Are you saying there are muted threads you're no longer able to access?
john gieryn Thu 28 Nov 2019 4:56AM
How do I see what threads I have muted? No more mute page?
Greg Kan Tue 3 Dec 2019 2:10AM
fixed broken notification links involving membership status/role
Greg Kan Sun 1 Dec 2019 8:52PM
can confirm that the notification's link for admin role is broken
john gieryn Thu 28 Nov 2019 12:56AM
Clicking the notification "[Name] made you an admin of [Group]" gives me an error:
We were unable to find that. It may have been deleted or moved.
At the moment, I don't see the group that I was invited to... now going into my email I see there's the email inviting me to be part of the group but I did not receive a notification of this within the app
Will refresh and try again, then will click "accept via email" and then try again if that didn't work...

Danyl Strype Thu 21 Nov 2019 11:32AM
One issue I've come across is that I got a notification that my application to join a group was approved, but when I click on it, it doesn't take me to the group home page. The URL it points at is:
https://www.loomio.org/invitations/fmLQogo39BDBEgszhsBknruX
FYI I'm currently using 393 on my 32-bit Ubuntu 16.04 (Trisquel 8.0 distribution), in Firefox 68.0.2 (ABrowser distribution).

List of members : how can I see how long ago each member did log in last time? It was possible in previous version. Thanks!
Danyl Strype Tue 19 Nov 2019 5:51AM
Today, I found that clicking the 'post' button in the comment editor produced no obvious result. When I clicked it the second time, the expected change in UI occurred, but then I noticed I had submitted the same comment twice. I've tried to delete the duplicates whenever this has happened but there may be places I didn't notice the problem and my comments appear twice.
Further experimentation with starting a new threads reveals a similar thing happening. The new thread is created when the relevant button is clicked, but the pop-up doesn't disappear. I clicked again and it still didn't disappear, but I could see the thread list in the background, and I noticed that my new thread had been created twice. In the end I had the close the pop-up manually and delete the duplicate thread.

Robert Guthrie Fri 22 Nov 2019 7:21PM
and we just had another report of this issue. I'll look into it harder!
exstral Fri 22 Nov 2019 4:59PM
So I've disabled the extension I use, Privacy Badger, and the built in tracking protection for Firefox. Saving a new profile picture is still broken.
Robert Guthrie Wed 20 Nov 2019 11:07PM
We store uploads to amazon s3, maybe you're blocking that? Please do confirm if disabling your blocker fixes the issue.
We've made significant improvements to the thread code over the last 2 days, and i think that even this thread is much better to use.
exstral Wed 20 Nov 2019 10:52PM
Tried it also with Safari. Same problem. Maybe something that only happens with new users? I also have strict third party tracker blocking enabled in all browsers, in case you are using a third party for uploading the photos.
exstral Wed 20 Nov 2019 10:48PM
Yes problem is still there. Firefox 70.0.1. Tried a few photos, none works.
Greg Kan Tue 19 Nov 2019 3:43AM
hi @exstral , can I ask what browser you're using? would you also be able to try this again and let me know if it still isn't working? i've been unable to reproduce this sadly :(
exstral Sun 17 Nov 2019 5:51PM
Hi! First impressions: Looks great! Although scrolling this long thread is incredibly slow and laggy.
Problem: I'm not able to upload a profile picture. I select a file on disk and the upload looks good, the image is shown in the profile info page. But when I click the "Update Profile" button, it reloads and the image is gone. Anyone else having this problem?
Danyl Strype Wed 27 Nov 2019 7:20PM

Robert Guthrie Tue 19 Nov 2019 7:33AM
quick question, does this still happen now (sidebar version 366 or higher)
Danyl Strype Tue 19 Nov 2019 5:33AM
I'm looking at Loomio.org using Firefox 68.0.2 64-bit (ABrowser distribution), on Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit (Trisquel 8.0 distribution). My wife is using Firefox on MacOSX. I'll need to check with her about what versions.
Robert Guthrie Tue 19 Nov 2019 3:38AM
Thanks Strypey. We're unable to reproduce any crashing when adding people to be notified. What browser are you and your wife using?
Danyl Strype Sun 17 Nov 2019 1:46PM
When I started the thread about making the Loomio blog discoverable in the fediverse, I was accidentally allowed by a bug to email notify the group members of the new thread (sorry!). I noticed that trying to add the group's users in the notification window made the site hang, but as I mentioned in a comment there, I assumed that was because of the size of the group.
But my wife tried to do the same thing today in a group with only 16 members and the same thing happened. She had to cancel out of the pop-up and use 'invite members' to send email notifications to her group. Seems like there's a serious bug with that feature.
Robert Guthrie Thu 21 Nov 2019 4:12AM
how are things going now (383+) ? lots more bugs resolved today.
Danyl Strype Sun 17 Nov 2019 1:36PM
Upon opening this thread, I don't see any comments. I assumed there weren't any, until I saw the tiny, greyed out text until the comment window saying "125 responses, newest first". When I clicked on the text, assuming that's what I'm meant to do to see the comments, I got a pop-up asking if I wanted to change the display (see attached screenshot):
This changes the layout for everyone, not just you.
Oldest or Newest first?
AFAIK I'm not an admin of this subgroup. Is it correct that I can change the layout for everyone? Also, is it a bug that I can't see the comments?
The rest of this comment assumes it's a feature, and includes a few thoughts about that. If the design goal for this is to get more responses to the OP before users start replying to each others' comments, making users to click to expose comments is probably a good way to do that.
However, if making the display of comments opt-in is a way to reduce load times for opening a thread, that's a good idea, but it might be better to have the notification about responses numbers displayed a bit more prominently? Maybe located between the Context Box and Comment Box, and/or in a more striking text font/size? FWIW allowing the text in the Context Box to be opened up from the thread list would be another way to allows users to browse those without loading comment threads.
Robert Guthrie Fri 15 Nov 2019 5:15PM

Micro frustration when writing a comment: I highlight some text, then I click the link icon to open the Insert Link modal. I put in the url and press Apply. It technically works fine, but there's no visual feedback that the link was inserted correctly, because the highlighted text looks the same as it did before it was a link.
Just mentioning in case there's an easy way to change this :)

Some feedback on 2.0 from customer using Loomio in a board context:
Would be useful if the side bar on left hand side could be permanently shown as in previous version (keeps closing)
Previously the category tags were visible when looking at a group – they are not now which is very inconvenient as these tags were used to help the Board know what to read / how to action.
Don't really like the feature where attachments show the first page as this looks messy when multiple attachments.
It was useful that if you exited a thread before posting that the thread saved for next time you opened the thread.
Greg Kan Sun 17 Nov 2019 11:11PM
This has to do with the initial setup for the rank poll, and the number of options you've decided need to be ranked:

Greg Kan Tue 19 Nov 2019 11:18PM
hi @Matthew Cropp, the issue is actually that this group does not allow members to add new members, but the shareable link button was still showing. a fix for this is coming.
if you want to share this group with someone, you can give them the link to the group itself (i.e. "https://www.loomio.org/community/") and then they can simply click the "join group" button as this is a public group.
Robert Guthrie Tue 12 Nov 2019 9:18PM

Not exactly a bug, but feels a bit broken: search.
First, I expect there to be a search bar on every screen. I can understand not including it on the thread page, but it seems weird to not have it on the Inbox as I think of that as my "Loomio home page".
More importantly though, the interaction design feels wacky. I recorded this video on my Macbook to illustrate the nuance:
My focus is in the search field, and when I type, the letters don't show up there. They show up in the address bar, which is quite disorienting. The content of the field only updates once the results are in. Intuitively, that feels back-to-front. What I expect to see is the text showing up in the search field, and then eventually the results come in and the URL is updated.
Maybe it would feel less weird if there was a delay, so the search operation is only triggered half a second after I type?
Richard D. Bartlett Tue 12 Nov 2019 6:15PM
Bug: comment field loses focus.
Occasionally, when I'm writing a long comment on this thread specifically, the comment form loses focus, and my browser tells me it is waiting on ethercalc.org
I don't know how to reproduce it sorry, just logging it here to alleviate some of my frustration.

Micro bug: I notice today there are a bunch of missing spaces in the app. E.g. on the Inbox, there should be a space between "2 replies" and "2 unread". Also in the sidebar, there should be a space between the group name and the number of notifications. Currently looks like: Loomio Community(4).
Richard D. Bartlett Mon 11 Nov 2019 11:10AM
Not a bug, but some missing information.
I made a poll, and got a lot of responses. In this case it would be very useful to be able to see who were the two people that selected "I would like to lead the organising work."
Currently I can only find that info by scrolling through 27 responses.
Maybe it would be nice if I could click on the number "2" and it would expand with the names of the voters.

Robert Guthrie Mon 11 Nov 2019 8:55AM
we're missing the green and orange blocks from timepoll! For you @Greg Kan ?
Robert Guthrie Mon 11 Nov 2019 6:37AM
actually another neat concept exists here: https://larsjung.de/pagemap/
The thing is, we only know a few thing about the thread when the page is loaded. the number of depth 1 items. We fetch pinned items and draw them on, and we'll fetch unread items soon too.
Otherwise we just load enough items around your viewport so that if you scroll like most people do, it seems like everything is there most of the time.
Robert Guthrie Mon 11 Nov 2019 6:32AM
Yea... it keeps growing until the minimum px between pinned items is met. There is a bug so that it does not resize initially, but I'll fix that.
If you space out your pins, the timeline will resize again.
I think the way I look at it is, your thread was completely unusable before.. now it's fairly accessible. It looks like there is corrupt data at the beginning that might need to be fixed one day.
Very soon I'll be highlighting unread sections on the timeline with orange blocks.. that's fairly certain and close.
It's also easy to imagine a future where we are placing author avatars on the left with reply author heads cascading to the right. Same for proposal icons etc
Matthew Bartlett Mon 11 Nov 2019 6:21AM
Ooh so it does! Now very tall — perhaps appropriate to this four-year-long discussion — though feels odd

d/2s6SRFfh
Robert Guthrie Sat 9 Nov 2019 7:17PM
Thanks for naming it. goes straight into the list of things we'll work out how to fix then fix.
Here's the thinking on this:
You cant just add http:// to links that don't have it. the main protocol these days is https, but we don't know if that's right.
So the user really does need to specify the protocol part of the component... we can't reliably guess it.
In this case, we'll need to add https:// to any link that does not already contain //, but confirm that with the user when they press ok.
We should also add link previews, they're fairly standard these days and add some fun.
Luke Flegg Sat 9 Nov 2019 7:02PM
Do we have something about embedding URLs?
Every single time I create a link by selecting text, clicking the URL button and typing the URL
I have to manually type
http://
at the beginning
which is just a bit annoying and feels uncessary, but if I don't do it, Loomio breaks my link by adding an odd prefix to it
david rayner Fri 8 Nov 2019 10:46AM
excuse me...gets straight talking engaged...i was referring to the sporadic lack of keyboard navigation. as per above...
lol, actually the lack of a lack but then further down the page after being to the bottom and coming back up searching for the new comment (hey, it's a friday night!), the lack came and 'click'went and came back and 'click'went...about the time your reply notification came through? (i eventually noticed...how about a dinky ping?)
hmmm...not really that much of a problem with the finish line in sight...or is programming ever really finished?🐎
Robert Guthrie Fri 8 Nov 2019 10:26AM
I enjoyed reading your comment, but I have no idea what it means.
david rayner Fri 8 Nov 2019 10:24AM
seems to flow at all times now...did u give infinity a stern talking to?
good chap...also thanks for calling my refusal to upgrade... sophisticated.
💾🗿
david rayner Tue 5 Nov 2019 4:25AM
i have now... kutgw.
Robert Guthrie Tue 5 Nov 2019 4:08AM
Did you discover how to pin it open if you want?
david rayner Tue 5 Nov 2019 4:06AM
it is good in loomio 2 that cntrl+click to open in another tab works does not activate the link in both tabs as it seemed to with v.1. that may just a sidebar thang. and the sidebar closing every screen change has cured me of my habit of leaving it open....
david rayner Tue 5 Nov 2019 3:52AM
the usual home, end, pg up down and arrow keys...this relatively minor effect sporadically occurs when using the mouse scroll as well. meaning the focus disappears for any scrolling without a click...🤔
Robert Guthrie Tue 5 Nov 2019 3:03AM
The casual but sophisticated look.
This kind of behaviour is a side affect of the infinite scrolling system I've built, I suppose. I've not put any thought into this aspect of it, I've always used a trackpad or mouse, but want to ensure we have good keyboard support.
How does one scroll with a physical keyboard? Which keys do you use?
david rayner Tue 5 Nov 2019 2:51AM
is it a mobile program assumption that means when i stop scrolling with my physical keyboard ( i dont use touch screens for loomio...) that the focus ceases after a very short time and requires a click with the mouse? it has been this way for a while and it is...starting...to...get...to ...me.
🙀might just be when it is loading...i am using a pc with 8.1 and latest FF and i am wearing a skivvie and trackpants.
Greg Kan Tue 19 Nov 2019 11:24PM
this is fixed now @Luke Flegg !
Robert Guthrie Mon 11 Nov 2019 8:46AM
hello
Robert Guthrie Mon 11 Nov 2019 8:33AM
I am typing the keys you can see, but I'm suffixing it with your favourite signoff, cmd + enter.
edit: I've had to roll it back.. normal enter was broken. I'll look again tomorrow morning.
Robert Guthrie Mon 11 Nov 2019 8:17AM
deploying fix for this now
Luke Flegg Tue 29 Oct 2019 11:15PM
in fact you can see my (empty) line at the bottom of that ^ comment! I ALWAYS use Ctrl + Enter. I use it on Wrike, Facebook, Twitter and loads of other web apps that support it
Luke Flegg Tue 29 Oct 2019 11:14PM
Ctrl + Enter (when writing a comment on a thread) POSTs the comment (yay) but also adds a line break! (bum clouds.)
Robert Guthrie Thu 24 Oct 2019 9:16PM
new feature: timeline!
Luke Flegg Sat 9 Nov 2019 11:18PM
omg life is so good. and it's enabled by default
and voters can add options
and it counts votes up as a total, Toodle pip Doodle
Robert Guthrie Sat 9 Nov 2019 7:05PM
I'm confused Luke! The above comment is about the timeline.... and loomio does support 'if need be'
Luke Flegg Sat 9 Nov 2019 7:00PM
I would use this instead of Doodle if it allowed 'If need be' - this is an essential feature for me because there are often dates which are much less convenient (but still doable, if need be) which people (including me) will just mark themselves as 'not available' for because it's incredibly annoying and unfair if a date is picked that is super inconvenient for half the group, when there's another date that is much better for the group (or indeed, could have more of us in attendance if they had the option to mark If need be)
Robert Guthrie Thu 24 Oct 2019 10:11PM
I think I might remove the dragging function and just allow clicks.
david rayner Thu 24 Oct 2019 9:49PM
it is definitely alive and requires a firm touch/mouse click...will give more of a go after my meeting...🙏
Robert Guthrie Thu 24 Oct 2019 9:12PM
@Matthew Bartlett It's live now. I think you should give it a spin
Robert Guthrie Thu 24 Oct 2019 8:20PM
Thanks for the feedback and bug reports @david rayner and @Matthew Bartlett. Appreciated!
Here's a reward - a sneek peek of the best Loomio 2.0 feature nobody knows about yet
david rayner Thu 24 Oct 2019 11:21AM
searching for old proposal for the previous issue made me miss the 'decisions' menu item as they are not as obvious as they used be...hmmm
maybe an icon to mark which threads contain a poll/proposal/tally?
🗿
david rayner Thu 24 Oct 2019 11:15AM
when i viewed notification history for a proposal, all the dates for notifications were for when the proposal was started.
Even the reminder notification i recently sent out; 6 days later...
other proposals i have checked seem to be the same i.e. only date being the start date.
Matthew Bartlett Wed 23 Oct 2019 9:57PM
This emoji looks like this when I choose it:
Greg Kan Tue 3 Dec 2019 2:01AM
fixed
Matthew Bartlett Wed 23 Oct 2019 9:56PM
This modal should open with the focus on the link field:
Greg Kan Tue 3 Dec 2019 2:02AM
fixed (missing helptext). N.B. this modal only shows up the first time you try to pin a thread
Matthew Bartlett Wed 23 Oct 2019 9:54PM
Kinda weird modal. Do we need a modal for this minor action? Or if we have one, it would be good to have some text like "Pinning a thread keeps it at the top of your group's thread list. You can use it to help keep your group's attention on what's important right now."
Matthew Bartlett Wed 23 Oct 2019 9:52PM
I'm in a thread, and I can't figure out how to see who has access to it. I have a feeling I invited an extra person, not in this group, to it.
Robert Guthrie Mon 11 Nov 2019 8:16AM
members search is now obvious, and the whole group page is much better for it. thanks for your feedback in making this
Robert Guthrie Tue 22 Oct 2019 9:42PM
Your suffering will not be for nothing! The next few updates will address this.
Joachim Jacob Tue 22 Oct 2019 1:09PM
Owwwww - could have saved me tons of time if I'd seen it.
I propose to put it somewhere more close. Perhaps next to the "invite" button?
Robert Guthrie Mon 21 Oct 2019 6:46PM
Did you notice that there is a search function? I'm worried the magnifying icon is not in a useful place.
Joachim Jacob Mon 21 Oct 2019 3:50PM
Hi, we have a very large group. In Firefox, I am searching one user, in the tab 'Members'. The page loads only a fraction of the users, then I need to click 'Load more'. Then some more are loaded, but the user is still not in the list... So I continue. After a while, it seems to me that clicking "Load more" does not lead to more users being shown on the page, even though the 'Load more' button is still present. A solution would be to provide a search field to quickly find a user. (need to remove someone). Managing the users is quite important for us. (but perhaps I am doing something wrong, or missed som essentials)
Robert Guthrie Thu 17 Oct 2019 5:20AM
quick update just now:
fix new subgroup √
fix images in app and in emails for consent and objection √
note that timezone is your local (and name it) under "when can you attend" √
explain things more clearly the notification settings form √
david rayner Thu 17 Oct 2019 5:09AM
i clicked on 'export' from the dropdown menu in a proposal just to see what would happen and the screen just went blank.(except for sidebar on left...)
or does it only activate once poll has finished?
Nancy Gibson Tue 22 Oct 2019 1:08AM
Hi @Greg Kan ... the poll closed yesterday so it is no longer active. Let me know if there is anything else I can do. Thanks
Greg Kan Mon 21 Oct 2019 8:24PM
Hi @Nancy Gibson, can you try hitting the tab or enter key once you've written the text for the option, and then hitting the save button?
Nancy Gibson Mon 21 Oct 2019 8:02PM
@Greg Kan ... I wrote the poll with 5 options but only 4 posted and when I edited the post to Add Another Option, I could write up the text but when I clicked Post it would disappear and didn't get added on. Other people could add options no problem so I'm guessing either user error or a bug specific to the creator of the poll.
Greg Kan Sun 20 Oct 2019 9:36PM
i was unable to reproduce nancy's inability to add another option/edit the poll. might have to ask nancy how exactly she tried to do this?
Robert Guthrie Thu 17 Oct 2019 5:16AM
Thanks for saying, good point. I'll sort it out.
Matthew Bartlett Wed 16 Oct 2019 8:06PM
FWIW, the variable length coloured bars on polls give me a moment's confusion each time — as the length in other contexts maps to the option's popularity
john gieryn Tue 15 Oct 2019 8:26PM
Three things reported to me by Nancy (and a fourth I discovered) Re: Polls choices
Nancy tried to put 5 options in poll, below pictured, but only 4 options came through
Nancy then went to edit the poll, or otherwise add option, and was unsuccessful
The options' length prevent them from being fully read
When I click on long options I can't tell if it is selected or not
@Rob Guthrie
Joachim Jacob Tue 15 Oct 2019 9:48AM
I cannot make a new Subgroup in our organisation, which is called 'The Mobility Factory SCE'. Instead, Loomio creates a completely new Organisation.
john gieryn Mon 14 Oct 2019 4:51AM
Can't seem to clear this (1) Unread in this thread… maybe to do with the share an outcome bit? FF 69
Sophie Jerram Sun 27 Oct 2019 10:13PM
thanks Rob I think that one now fixed... x
Robert Guthrie Thu 24 Oct 2019 11:04PM
@Sophie Jerram thanks so much for the janky jumpy scrolling feedback - I think I've solved all those problems now, (and added a timeline!) so I'd love to know how you find it now.
david rayner Mon 14 Oct 2019 12:00PM
top left above main menu.
well....that where it was before...🚏yup...still there...
david rayner Mon 14 Oct 2019 11:59AM
excellent...i can see it going through the same kind of thing in process to the end but one ends up where one is heading without getting deposited elsewhere...like the first page that ended up loading...🗿
Sophie Jerram Mon 14 Oct 2019 11:55AM
ummm - how do I get back to Loomio v.2>? I'm using the original...
Robert Guthrie Mon 14 Oct 2019 7:11AM
If you get a minute, try again now (version, bottom left cnr: 269 onwards), I've changed a setting that might have been contributing to the problem and I'd love to know if you notice an improvement.
I've tried to reproduce it myself, and I definitely did see it jump to the bottom a couple of times, but maybe twice, with many threads and quite a vigorous scrolling.
Sophie Jerram Mon 14 Oct 2019 4:04AM
It’s a laptop. Shall do
Robert Guthrie Mon 14 Oct 2019 12:21AM
Sophie, are you using a mobile or laptop when these scrolling issues happen? Can you please send me a url of a page that is particularly problematic? You may like to send it to me via email [email protected]
david rayner Sun 13 Oct 2019 2:04AM
i am finding that (in ff 70b14 etc...) i scroll and then wait...and scroll....and wait...etc and it catches up eventually...
patience is a virtue at the moment. still recommending people in our pool check 2.0 out, esp on mobiles...
🗿
ps this a painless way to be a crash test dummy...
Robert Guthrie Sat 12 Oct 2019 10:24PM
Yikes, thanks for reporting this, Sophie. I'll see what's going on.
Sophie Jerram Sat 12 Oct 2019 10:19PM
Hi team apologies if this has already been noted but in loomio 2.0 (Firefox Quantum) I can't scroll to the bottom of the thread- it keeps bumping me back to mid way -probably where i was when i was last online. i am back to using the original loomio
Matthew Bartlett Thu 10 Oct 2019 8:57PM
On Loomio 266 / Chrome / OSX the reactions panel turns up at top left of the screen, and scrolls with the thread.
Robert Guthrie Thu 10 Oct 2019 8:56PM
yikes. I'll work on this today.
Matthew Bartlett Thu 10 Oct 2019 8:55PM
This poll (on discussion fwX6528a) has finished, and I'm about to share an outcome. I click 'Members of thread' (because in this poll it's everyone in the Ecumenical Chaplaincy group, plus one guest), and only one member of the group is added (it's not the guest):
Robert Guthrie Mon 7 Oct 2019 7:53PM
this don't look right:
Matthew Bartlett Tue 8 Oct 2019 12:40AM
That would be nifty
Robert Guthrie Tue 8 Oct 2019 12:03AM
Thanks for the info. Texting could be a really useful Loomio feature eh?
Matthew Bartlett Mon 7 Oct 2019 10:17PM
Fwiw: use case for link to share today was for texting slow voters
Matthew Bartlett Mon 7 Oct 2019 10:15PM
Use case: planning quarterly board meeting; two members haven't voted and I'm chasing them; meantime some of the dates have become irrelevant, because the date has passed already, or they were too unpopular to be viable options anymore; I'd like to make the experience for the stragglers as simple as possible, rather than making them do the cognitive work to reject now irrelevant options.
Greg Kan Mon 7 Oct 2019 9:36PM
@Matthew Bartlett just a further note that right now you can't remove options that have already been voted on
Robert Guthrie Mon 7 Oct 2019 8:45PM
Please try long threads again. It should stick to the bottom if you hit the bottom now (and top if vice versa). However I think it might be a good idea to flip that thread.
Text entry on android/mobile was messed up by menu button overload - it's fixed now too.
Still thinking about link to share poll and the poll options
Matthew Bartlett Mon 7 Oct 2019 7:51PM
Thanks RG :)
d/2s6SRFfh / Chrome 76.0.3809.132
But I think I'm seeing this load-whole-thread thing on lots of threads
Robert Guthrie Mon 7 Oct 2019 6:44PM
Ooosh! All these things will be fixed very soon.
Can you tell me the thread id and browser you're having thread scrolling issues?
Matthew Bartlett Mon 7 Oct 2019 6:36PM
I can't remove dates after time poll started, though it looks like I should be able to.
I can't find a link to share a poll
Long threads presently almost unusable, with every comment loading before I can get to the comment form (and reloading when I scroll back up to context panel), comment form keeps jumping further down as comments load.
This text box on Android doesn't auto scroll, so I have to swipe up repeatedly when writing a long comment
Robert Guthrie Mon 7 Oct 2019 8:42PM
It was the intention to add support for moving polls too. Thanks for the poke. I've enabled moving polls via the same function which is now called move items.
Rudolf Hornig Mon 7 Oct 2019 9:35AM
We have created a check poll to recruit people to work on some topic. After the poll finished we have created a new thread and I wanted to move related comments and the whole check poll to the new thread. It seems that you can move only comments between threads, but not polls. Is this intentional?
john gieryn Sun 6 Oct 2019 10:07PM
undesirable unread behavior with closed threads:
mike_hales Sat 5 Oct 2019 8:23PM
I'm referring to Loomio 2.0. Is there more specific version info anywhere on the page?
I remember now, way back in version 1, that the datestamp had to be copied. But then you tweaked things, and added an explicit 'copy link' option to the comment's actions menu. This was very convenient - and helpfully explicit.
Robert Guthrie Sat 5 Oct 2019 8:00PM
Which version, mike? FYI, the date stamp is a link which you can copy.
mike_hales Sat 5 Oct 2019 6:28PM
I just discovered that this present version of Loomio no longer has 'Copy link to clipboard' as an option on posted comments. Do please restore this useful function. Thanks.
Robert Guthrie Fri 4 Oct 2019 4:25AM
Thursday & Friday
Support for older browsers including MS Edge 17 (at least .. booting the app)
Fixed a massive memory leek on thread page (no more crashing tabs) 🐲
Make outcome stand out on a poll card
expose close/reopen poll buttons on the toolbar
make group page tab text more visible
prevent jittering on proposals in a thread
sticky footer
convert time poll chart back to a table🗽
david rayner Fri 4 Oct 2019 6:28AM
i Had wondered if linking tween the platforms was....problematic...🗿
loving 2.0 and i have started encouraging members of our group to try it.
Robert Guthrie Fri 4 Oct 2019 4:13AM
No worries, good to check. Linking the name in the old client is a little hard.
david rayner Fri 4 Oct 2019 3:18AM
i was wrong. sorry to assume based upon an apparent format change.
david rayner Fri 4 Oct 2019 3:04AM
why is there no seemingly active link like there used to be?(that also functioned as an indication that i had got the formatting correct same as here...)
and majorly... no reply from people who are active. i will double check again if they are being received or just ignored.
i am quite happy to be wrong.😌
Robert Guthrie Fri 4 Oct 2019 2:49AM
Uhmm... nope. If I mention someone from Loomio 2, and they're on Loomio 1, it'll work just the same.
You can even use the notification history feature to track if they've opened the email or notifications dropdown
david rayner Fri 4 Oct 2019 2:40AM
a thing i had wondered...and can now confirm... an@ mention here does not transfer to 1.0.
i had wondered why people were not responding. @least they are not dead...
🎲
david rayner Fri 4 Oct 2019 2:37AM
ditto🗿
Robert Guthrie Thu 3 Oct 2019 10:49PM
I hear ya. I'll keep listening for a bit more.
I'll flip the nav with a flipped thread v soon.
Matthew Bartlett Thu 3 Oct 2019 9:59PM
It's a bit weird to me that the order of discussions can be switched around. I feel like I have to think a bit for each thread. It also means the mapping of this nav menu doesn't make sense for 'newest first' thread — clicking 'End' takes one / leaves one at the top of the page:
Matthew Bartlett Thu 3 Oct 2019 9:57PM
This is a cool feature, but not quite working — in that all the first list should have ticks beside them, as I know they've seen the notification because they have voted:
mike_hales Thu 3 Oct 2019 11:13PM
copy as / paste from markdown
will be great. thanks Rob
Robert Guthrie Thu 3 Oct 2019 10:59PM
The new rich text system supports more features than Markdown.
However I do recognise the value of markdown. We'll add a copy as / paste from markdown ability.
True dual format support is too much work if we support any features at all, ie: mentions, drag and drop uploads or view edit history.
mike_hales Thu 3 Oct 2019 2:33PM
I just did my first major edit on an old comment containing a long list of sources; I needed to add another to the list. The old comment was pasted in as Markdown, and I want to do the edit in my Markdown editor, where I keep a master copy of all the long comments posted to that group. But I find that there's no Markdown support now, in the new editor😟 Is there really no Markdown support? If so, this is a real loss and inconvenience. The new editor is neat and works well, but Markdown is a basic exchange format.
Robert Guthrie Tue 1 Oct 2019 2:49AM
Recent progress:
The thread page has had a lot of work (uses less cpu, memory, bandwidth, jitters much less and is faster) - rendering very large threads should feel good, rendering short threads equally good.
fix proposal legend to support consent and objection (cc @John Gieryn )
fix editing attachments on comments, proposals etc
removed the Facilitate button and now you see Comment, Proposal, Poll
added star and whitecheckmark emojis
added back explore page and links to it from sidebar and empty dashboard
big improvements to the group page tabs, threads, polls, members, files all load faster and paginate better
We're very close to calling this a first 2.0 release, work has started on the iOS app
Michael Sun 29 Sep 2019 10:51PM
Hi Greg, this report received over the weekend that poll info is pushing over mobile screen.
Robert Guthrie Tue 1 Oct 2019 2:31AM
I keep coming back to this and wondering if I've mis interpreted you. Would you mind sharing a screenshot of the problem you're experiencing, Marco? Thank you!
Robert Guthrie Sun 29 Sep 2019 10:15AM
I think that is what happens already. When you type, the area expands as you go.
Marco Giustini Sun 29 Sep 2019 8:33AM
Mod proposal: When someone write more than a line (word wrap) on a text entry area (on discussion, comment, proposal, and soon), imho is needed that the area automaticly resizes, so is easier to write the second line and more.
Robert Guthrie Sat 28 Sep 2019 7:02PM
Hi Marco. The translation files are the same as 1.0. So if you bring those translations up to date, they'll apply to Loomio 2.0.
This means that once 1.0 is retired, there will be a lot of translation strings removed.
Marco Giustini Sat 28 Sep 2019 2:46PM
@robertguthrie I wish to translate LOOMIO 2.0 into italian updating the translations I already have done in the past. Are all the new files available on Transifex?
john gieryn Fri 27 Sep 2019 3:24AM
I went into a subgroup I hadn't visited in a while ("Customer Support") and made a new thread there. When I was done with that, I suddenly had an indicator that there were 14 unread threads in that group. These also had not been showing on my Unread Threads page. Thought you'd like to know :)
david rayner Thu 16 Jan 2020 2:01AM
just this thread...still trouble shooting before i report again to rob...and it is not that huge in the scheme of things...our main group is working just fine and i am loving the increased finesse of 2.0.xxxxx
john gieryn Wed 15 Jan 2020 9:05PM
Are you still having a thread that continually shows as unread no matter what you do?
david rayner Wed 15 Jan 2020 9:08AM
my experience of that feature is a lot of people who check it out but do not actually do anything. but then i know they fully received it...
excuse the late reply but i thought i had finally found the 'unread post' that always shows...😟this was not it...
john gieryn Fri 27 Sep 2019 3:15AM
I got confused when today I received a notification "Rob accepted your invitation to join [Thread, see my email], as you had participated in a poll within the thread (so you had joined the thread after I notified you via tagging you the context)
Maybe it has to do with the @mention I sent you two weeks ago in that thread, but the notification would still be confusing, in that case, as you'd already "joined" the thread by voting
Robert Guthrie Tue 24 Sep 2019 10:26PM
We now support switching the thread to display newest items first, and selecting how much nesting is used. I think newest first threads will be really useful for a lot of groups.
Richard D. Bartlett Wed 25 Sep 2019 8:13AM
Brooks how much of your pain is about groups, vs subgroups?
Greg Kan Wed 25 Sep 2019 1:17AM
you can now access the 'Explore groups' page again if you scroll to the bottom of the sidebar 🙂
Robert Guthrie Tue 24 Sep 2019 7:57PM
You got it! Thanks for commenting it here!
I really don't mind if something has been said already, repetition is useful and I'll sort it out if not.
Daniel DeTerrence Brooks Tue 24 Sep 2019 6:59PM
I can't readily gain an overview of the right way to act in here or check if someone has made this point before(I hope so!)
I notice in the 2.0 beta that the issue of easily gaining access to the list of groups to sign up to is nowhere to be found, at least by me. In my view this is the number 1 issue for new users at the Borderland, and the one that causes many of them to flee Talk before giving it a proper chance. Please please please grant us a feature on the sidebar to 'Join more groups' or the like!
Robert Guthrie Tue 24 Sep 2019 7:57PM
Totally bamboozled on this. Keen to know if it ever happens again.
john gieryn Mon 23 Sep 2019 2:33AM
Not sure why/how the format of this thread context got mangled? Was fine last I looked
Richard D. Bartlett Wed 25 Sep 2019 8:14AM
yeah it is iDXSvbPa
just confirmed it is still broken
Greg Kan Mon 23 Sep 2019 9:49PM
hey rich, can i get the group id/key off you?
Richard D. Bartlett Wed 18 Sep 2019 12:47PM
In beta, I can't toggle the "Members can create subgroups" permission setting.
Robert Guthrie Wed 18 Sep 2019 8:49AM
john gieryn Wed 18 Sep 2019 2:14AM
Also the icon in the Timeline might want to change:
john gieryn Wed 18 Sep 2019 1:21AM
Two things with new voting tools within Proposals:
No voting: Group members still see the "Vote" bar+button at the top, which may send mixed message, and when you click this the behavior also doesn't help as it doesn't light up the bit where they're supposed to interact with this type of proposal, ie, the comment field
The metrics on the Results are missing some bits (new bits, it appears):
@Rob Guthrie
Greg Kan Mon 16 Sep 2019 11:52PM

Thanks for sharing. I don't think I can make the edit toolbar icons bigger, but I can give them tooltips and make them darker when the field is focused.
mike_hales Mon 16 Sep 2019 8:21AM
I'm struck again in this beta layout, by how small and pale the icons are in the edit options below the comment entry field. And no mouse-over pop-up legend. So a step backwards in clarity and usability. Likewise, small fonts in left and right sidebar menus. Please have a thought for older folks eyesight?
mike_hales Sun 15 Sep 2019 8:32AM
I'm with Sukie regarding the display of time poll results. The little icon rows don't communicate like the grid did. The rows show 'the winner' but the grid shows better who can do what.
Sukie Conley Fri 4 Oct 2019 8:30AM
Holy hot grid!! Thank you so much! Looks really good 🙌🏽
Robert Guthrie Fri 4 Oct 2019 4:12AM
Ok, the grid is back! (v246)
Robert Guthrie Mon 16 Sep 2019 7:50AM
Thanks for explaining this for me Sukie. I thought I'd had a breakthrough with the new time poll design.
The finishing of it has proved a little difficult though, I'm not happy that it does not line up on a grid vertically.
We'll see what we can do to improve things.

TIME POLL:
I absolutely loved the old time poll feature. It was so easy to see who responded, how many responded, and what the most popular time from the group was. Organizing through doodle was a big nuisance, and I found time poll my answer to no more doodles
Looking at the time poll in 2.0, I quickly became confused, and it was hard to determine results. I really just loved the way the old one worked; how easy it was to scroll through a chart both horizontally and vertically, and see my results at a quick glance. The new way is more spaced out, not a grid, and even the icons are different sizes throughout (see pic below), which made it very difficult to read/determine results. Also, the actual day of the week (Mon, Tue, etc.) is not listed anymore, which necessitates me needing to stare at my calendar while organizing something.
I may be the only one in this boat (I am an spreadsheet enthusiast), but is it possible to bring the grid back? Its clear organization helped put my technology-induced anxiety brain at ease. I get how it could be a cumbersome the old way too, and I do like the new idea of picture icons in green/yellow, so maybe there is way to combine the two?
Sweet Blissful Grid:

I think we've since addressed all these issues, @Sukie Conley . Thanks for naming them all.
Sukie Conley Sat 14 Sep 2019 10:44PM
Hiya!
Preface: I am a super basic user that loves how easy my iPhone and Mac are to use, but if things aren't super intuitive, I get lost and overwhelmed easily.
Basically, I want to easily navigate to a view of my organization's threads that includes my subgroup threads. With john's help, I found it possible, but honestly, I just thought loomio had deleted my subgroups for some reason (because I couldn't see them/find them from the group page), and I was confused.
As a user, from a thread I wanted to return to the organization view that includes the subgroups I am in. When I clicked the hyperlink with my group's name (at the top of the page in blue), it took me to my group's page sans the subgroup threads.
From the navigation bar on the left, I didn't know how to use the drop down vs clicking the name in order to include or exclude subgroup threads.
It was very difficult and cumbersome to scroll and try to find the subgroups I am a part of because the drop down shows me all of the subgroups available, which was pretty overwhelming as a new user.
Robert Guthrie Tue 29 Oct 2019 8:13PM
Thanks for taking the time to list these out, Mike. I really do appreciate it.
Will fix. Can you forward me the email (to [email protected]) that has the link to the comment, I've put a lot of work into arriving at the right place from links, so I'd like to make sure I fix this case too.
Confused. Nested not chronological is the default view. Maybe you mean chronological not nested?
Will bring back: Thread participants - what was it about that feature that you found useful?
Loomio 1 did not offer a notification option when positing a comment. Although in L2, you can see when people have opened your notifications. Can you explain further what you find missing?
Bug!? Can you give me the poll url for the situation where not all thread participants were being listed, I'll sort it out.
Thanks for your feedback, I know it seems like nothing happens to it, but I assure you it helps me make progress. Copy link function coming very soon.
The Loomio 2 search function is a massive improvement over 1, and the timeline feature makes it much easier to navigate threads, however I hear you on the need for comment search and will work towards the right solution.
mike_hales Tue 29 Oct 2019 9:02AM
Thanks Rob.
Broadly, I keep discovering things from Loomio 1 that seem to be lost in Loomio 2.
- Dropping into a thread at the place where I’ve been notified of an @mention. Like this present one. I’m replying in email bcos I can’t find the place in the thread, to review my earlier comment that you refer to.
- Displaying a thread Nested not Chronological. I really miss this. Seems basic.
- Being able to view thread participants.
- Being offered a notification option when posting a comment.
- ‘Thread participants’ as a notification option (where it occurs - for example, editing a Poll) didn’t bring up all participants - only about half of them. The others had to be inserted by hand.
And the old problem of searching within threads, which really does need a solution. For example, this thread is so complex now, I’ve given up attempts to find my own previous comments or to search first for other folks’ comments, before I post a new one. Like this one!
Robert Guthrie Tue 29 Oct 2019 7:23AM
I think you'll like the improvements on layout and spacing in the current version of Loomio, @mike_hales.
mike_hales Sat 14 Sep 2019 6:40PM
I just used Loomio 2 for the first time on the iPad. At first encounter (even after using Loomio 2 on MacOS for some time now) the interface here looks kinda opaque, in a way I can’t easily put my finger on. If I weren’t a determined, experienced user, I think I’d be put off. I think it might be enough to discourage some of the less tech literate members of a group that I convene.
I had to hunt for the means to drop in at the latest messages in a thread - turns out it’s in the funny little button down in the bottom right corner. Even then, the legend ‘End’ appears in such tiny writing in the slide-over menu, that’s it was easy to miss the first time. And the slide-over is transparent, which makes it hard to read anyway.
Larger font in the slide-over menu please? Kill the transparency? Maybe add the legend ‘MENU’ to the menu button? In large characters!
I guess I’ll get used to commands being in the slide-over. But at first it feels like part of the opacity I referred to.
On the plus side, the comment editor feels good on the iPad.
In MacOS I commented that the line length in comments is too long for fluent visual scanning of lines. Here in IOS this has the additional effect of making the type size pretty small. My old eyes need larger characters!
Larger characters please, fewer words per line?
As in MacOS, I would say that line spacing could and should be a little closer, and that space between paragraphs should be a little less. In MacOS this was bcos of wanting to scroll less to read comments. Here in IOS it’s just bcos the page overall looks to my eye to have a bit too much white space in it.

I used export data in 2.0 for the first time today. It is nice to now receive data via email. 🙌
However it only seems to export in json, and is unreadable for analysis. Can we please have .csv option too (and maybe HTML) 🤞

Setting a title for a member in the parent group doesn't automatically apply to that same member in all subgroups. I understood from here that this should be the case. Or maybe even better: get the choice to have the title applied to all subgroups or not.

while that online metric can be unreliable in the occasional case,(some kind of auto login thing thru ipad/apple? ) i have found it to be worthwhile and accurate enough. but yes, the occasional head scratch...
Robert Guthrie Tue 1 Oct 2019 7:41PM
Thats something to be concerned about. That figure is updated each time the app is refreshed.
Connor Tue 1 Oct 2019 2:40PM
Sidenote: OTOH, I found that on 1.0 those metrics were completely unreliable. For example, a member of our group that passed away years ago, would show as active "1 month ago".
Michael Tue 10 Sep 2019 2:48AM
Customer feedback on 2.0: One thing I noticed was that you can no longer see how long it is since a member was online, which I find useful to see how engaged people are with Loomio.

likely low priority:
I checked my notifications in FF on Android (mobile) but Loomio 2.0 did not register that I'd seen those notifications. Result: I went onto desktop and it said I had two notifications, I checked them and was confused as I'd already seen them

Robert Guthrie Thu 5 Sep 2019 8:28PM
Fair enough!
Graham Thu 5 Sep 2019 3:27PM
If I write a URL in a post I'd expect that to be automagically clickable by anyone reading that post and not have to explicitly make it into a link.
Robert Guthrie Thu 5 Sep 2019 8:26PM
Good questions.
We need to the "Explore" page back in, which is an index of publicly findable groups. It's on the list.
I'm still learning how to name "groups" properly. People often start a new parent group when they mean to start a subgroup, so we tried calling it organization, because that's what the group is supposed to represent, which might have helped with that, but it means we're using two terms for the same thing, which is bad. Thinking about alternatives.
I'm sure that in a few months we'll allow multiple levels of subgroup. From there we'll allow users to move groups around the tree.
Graham Thu 5 Sep 2019 3:11PM
Couple of questions:
How do I search Loomio to find open 'groups' that I could read or apply to join? I can't find any UI to list or search stuff that I'm not already part of.
Nomenclature: I'm seeing the word 'group' used in the UI, but not clear what it refers to. At the bottom of my list of stuff on the left hand side I see a thing that seems to be inviting me to create a "New organization". Is that different from a 'group'?
Robert Guthrie Tue 17 Sep 2019 7:15AM
We've replaced it with an effect perhaps even more startling! It's getting closer though.

hey @Joriam Philipe i tried logging into one of your test accounts but i could not replicate it! can you please state each step that leads you to this problem? i tried logging in and logging out and everything seemed to be there. i repeated this process again with creating a new thread and then logging out and in again too.
Joriam Philipe Sat 31 Aug 2019 3:30PM
Oh btw @Rob Guthrie
If you wanna test it out, the fake accounts are:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
The password is always preste1234
Joriam Philipe Sat 31 Aug 2019 3:12PM
Threads and everything inside disappear!
The group still exists in all the 4 fake accounts I created to populate it — but it's always empty when I log in.
When I create a new thread it seems to function normally. I can comment, facilitate and edit it normally. I can even refresh the page and it seems it's all good.
But as soon as I log out (of any of the 4 accounts) the group 'resets' — that even includes member's pictures (though their names remain untouched)
Robert Guthrie Sat 31 Aug 2019 1:30PM
What the???
Groups and threads are just disappearing after log out??
Joriam Philipe Sat 31 Aug 2019 12:41PM
Update on the bug mentioned above:
I tried to create new threads for this same example-group. The threads get created and I can start decisions and comment inside — but as soon as I log out they vanish.
It's impossible to work with this group =/
Joriam Philipe Fri 30 Aug 2019 7:34PM
I created a Time Poll and added a couple of date options. I noticed every time I created a date, a new blank 'option' would show too. I tried to delete them pressing the 'x' button, but they didn't go away, so I just ignored them.
When I click to post the Time Poll, something went very wrong. All my group's threads immediately vanished from the home page and group home page. When I click to load 'recent threads' it loads forever and never shows any results. The only place I can still see the name of my former threads is the notifications menu — and I noticed all my team's photos have vanished as well.
I somehow touched some software uranium when I was creating that time poll — and I was not doing anything unusual at all!
The name of the group is PlasticFree Ocean. Here's some post-disaster reference print screens:

You can enclose the URL in backticks like this
https://help.loomio.org/en/user_manual/getting_started/webinar/
to get a one-liner in the code block.
Also, the problem is caused by the second underscore, as enclosing text in underscores is the markdown notation for italics.
It seems that markdown auto-interpretation should be suspended when a link is detected. (Which it is detected, because it is linked automatically.)
john gieryn Tue 27 Aug 2019 5:57AM
I pasted the url
https://help.loomio.org/en/user_manual/getting_started/webinar/
Aside, minor note
I really tried to pull the "I pasted the url" out of the code block but there was no way to do so if I wanted it above/before the url

Unclear what time was chosen;
when I checked with Michael, he responded to say "Tuesday 2.30pm. I added a calendar invitation to the outcome. Did it not come through?" ← I'm imagining he set the outcome using 2.0 given that I could not see the chosen time in 1.0 neither

Robert Guthrie Tue 20 Aug 2019 8:04PM
Thanks Mike,
The logos, without titles are likely here to stay, but I'll fix the tooltip so they're more easily identified. We also have a group setup wizard on the way to ensure people set logo images for their organisation.
Request for keyboard shortcut to toggle sidebar recorded.
I'll make the icons a touch darker, try making the lines a little shorter and the font a touch smaller.
mike_hales Tue 20 Aug 2019 10:05AM
Loomio 2.0 looks very clean and lovely 🙂 Four initial typography/usability responses . .
1 Menu sidebar no longer shows titles of groups, just logos. Logos (tiny logos!) are not really distinctive enough to serve on their own, titles please too. It's the alphabetic ordering of titles that reveals the structure of the listing. Sometimes the title is revealed on mouse-over (group page?) but not always (thread page).
PS In earlier Loomio, the sidebar would appear and disappear with an 's' keypress. Would be nice to have this in Loomio 2.0.
2 On the group home page, names of tabs are so faint it's hard to read them. More distinct name format please.
PS Icons in text editor toolbar are a bit on the grey side too. Blacker please? I have older eyes!
3 Line length in posts is very long and thus hard to fluently scan in blocks of text. Default legible line length of body text in book typesetting is 65-70 characters per line. I make the current Loomio 2.0 line about 90 characters. Shorter default length please.
4 Not sure about this yet but the font size and white space in comments seems to result in fewer comments visible in a window than in Loomio1; thus more scrolling. More visible, less scrolling, is better. Squeeze things up a bit please? Especially if you shorten line length!
Keep it coming! Thanks
john gieryn Sun 18 Aug 2019 1:13AM
Not sure if this screenshot, taken after trying to react to my own comment, helps: Not saying I need/want to be able to react to my own comment – I don't think I've ever had the desire/ seen the need – but the dropdown (comment options) do say "react" and then nothing happens when I hit the button
john gieryn Sun 18 Aug 2019 1:10AM
Can't add a reaction to a thread context nor this comment in FF
Previously mentioned emoji stuff in FF (in case they fell off the list) :
Also it's very strange to react with a  and the app to display the reaction as a grinning face. When I put the emoji into the text box I get it like normal 🙂; but I'll react to this comment and I'm curious how it will appear to others (I see it as a 😄)
Not sure if this is priority, but eventually FF emojis would look better if displayed as a consistent set, not some yellow faces and some outlines

It works better with Firefox, so maybe it is in part browser-specific. My problem with using Loomio with Firefox is that with the login process that Loomio uses, Firefox doesn't remember my credentials and so I have to look them up. Safari on the other hand does remember my login, so I tend to use Safari for Loomio.
Robert Guthrie Mon 5 Aug 2019 11:51PM
Thanks for sharing the annoyance - and sorry!
The "taking you to the right place" problem is something we'll have another pass at.
The problem is content is loading above where we took you to, and it is stretching the page, pushing your desired content down below the viewport. I'll take some time to address this soon. There are a couple of ways to approach the problem.
In terms of number 2, I wonder if that's just a bad internet connection or something. Please keep an eye on it and let me know if the condition changes.

Here's another one - part of the really annoying inability of Loomio 2 to put me where I need to be in a thread. I see a notification in the top right. I click on the notification, on the assumption that it will take me to the place I need to be to see the specifics of the notification and respond to it. In recent days I've seen two things happen:
I'm taken to the thread, where for a brief moment I can see the comment or whatever that the notification is linked to, but then the page takes me away from that location and I have to then scroll through the thread to re-find my spot. Mega-annoying.
More recently the page is only half-loading, and I'm shown a page that is just a series of numbered boxes, and nothing happens. I've tried to attach a screendump to illustrate this but it looks like it is not uploading - had to remove that in order to activate the 'Post' button

Laurène - ZD Nice Sun 1 Dec 2019 10:09PM
Hi @Rob Guthrie, I have the same problem of former Loomio 1.0 emoticons shown as "arrow_right". On july you wrote 'let me know the text' to fix it. I hope it still possible ;-) Thanks a lot 😘
Robert Guthrie Wed 24 Jul 2019 7:20PM
Yikes! I'll get onto these! 🙏
Initial triage of the list:
I'll look into add link on firefox - it sounds buggy
I'll def fix upload progress bar
Each time emoticons show up as text, let me know the text and I'll fix it.
I'm super surprised editing Loomio 1.0 text failed. Try it again today, I've implemented a converter so you get WYSIWYG editing of 1.0 text. Screenshot if it's still weird.
I'll look into score poll voting not working. I have recorded app errors from you.
Did the choice loading reload the app, or did it just take a breather for some reason.
X to remove option will be fixed
Ranked choice Zindex will be fixed
I'm surprised about losing your place while linking... It does not move the screen... what's going on I wonder? A video would be very helpful

Heading text buttons are for lines of text only. That's just how they are.

Well, just spent a whole bunch of hours fiddling with the beta to record videos — and found some bugs/weird things. I was using Firefox on a Macbook Pro (screen resolution 2880 x 1800).
Here they are:
— Unresponsive "add link": most of the times, adding a link in the thread editor works, sometimes it just doesn't. I click apply and nothing happens (even the link window doesn't close, it just sits there)
— Invisible loading bar: the files are uploaded alright, but I can't see the progress. It always goes from zero to done, even with 20mb files that take more than a minute to up
— Temperamental italic and bold buttons: sometimes (1 out of 15 +-) the buttons just don't work. I click, nothing happens happens. At first I thought it was my mistake, but I had recorded footage to prove I actually clicked the right place
— Time poll bad layout: the time polls here are a designer's nightmare, as seen here
— Selection bug with "add link": in the thread and comment editor, I select the word I want to turn into a link, then I click the link icon on top of it, it opens this window asking for the url, I ctrl+V an url — but the copied text doesn't go to the new window, but it's added to the text I was editing, thus deleting the word I was trying to link
— Loomio 1.0 emoticons showing as weird text: former Loomio 1.0 checkbox emoticons are shown as "white_check_mark"
— Editing Loomio 1.0: I tried to edit an Assembly Sprint thread just to remove the "white_check_mark" and use a thread as an example. Everything went to hell after that, the text was all weird and full of weird marks. Had to go back to Loomio 1.0 to fix it.
— Score decision sometimes won't let me vote: once I tried to create a Score decision and it just didn't let me vote, just showing me a weird letter thing. I took a pic. When I tried again, it worked
— Choice loading time: not exactly a bug, but I noticed in the video editor that when I clicked to create a new choice decision, it loaded for almost 7 whole seconds. It felt like a lot
— Ranked option creation, "x" is not deleting: While creating a ranked choice decision, I tried to delete one of my tentative choices before posting by clicking the "X" symbol next to it, but nothing happened. When I clicked any other part of the tentative choice, it would delete it, just the "X" didn't work
— Unvoted ranked choices overlap text: as seen here
— After adding a link, I don't know where I'm at: just after adding a link to a specific word in the text editor, when I go back to the text, I'm not seeing what I left behind (not sure if it's the text selection that moves or just the scroll). In bigger texts like this comment, this makes me confused
— Headings text buttons affect everything: the H1 H2 H3 heading text buttons turn 100% of the text into heading, not just my selection
Robert Guthrie Wed 24 Jul 2019 7:26PM
Thanks Graham. I'm not quite sure how to solve this yet. I'll think it over.
Graham Wed 24 Jul 2019 10:42AM
Using the little notification thing top right I can click on a notification and it takes to the right place in the relevant thread, for a second or two, then the rest of the content on that thread/page appears to populate the page, and I'm now looking at some other part of that thread (presumably an older part), so I then have to manually scroll to find the bit that the notification was about. Very annoying, especially when I can see that Loomio knows where I should be in the thread. Using Safari on MacOS.

Though I'm enjoying interacting this thread, it doesn't turn up in my Recent Threads
Jody Connor Thu 18 Jul 2019 10:10PM
Pretty sure this is because john 'pinned' it.
Matthew Bartlett Fri 12 Jul 2019 5:35AM
I don't know what it means that john's comment is in that right-hand menu. Perhaps the facilitator is particularly drawing it to my attention?
Robert Guthrie Fri 12 Jul 2019 5:42AM
yeah, nah, i get it. I guess I'm wondering if I can invent new meaning with this as my grudging argument.
Matthew Bartlett Fri 12 Jul 2019 5:34AM
Yeah the awkwardness might be in my head only
Robert Guthrie Fri 12 Jul 2019 5:31AM
Oh, I guess so. I've always thought people used them to return to where they had gotten up to.
Matthew Bartlett Fri 12 Jul 2019 5:30AM
Mmm… tells me I've made a choice at some past time to save my spot. That's a similar vibe I suppose.
Robert Guthrie Fri 12 Jul 2019 5:19AM
Yes... What does a bookmark tell you though? (when used in a book)
Matthew Bartlett Fri 12 Jul 2019 5:11AM
Idea, for what it's worth: replace the unread icon, which feels really bookmarky to me, with the unread message count in a circle.
john gieryn Wed 10 Jul 2019 4:03PM
Number of check poll responses not centered in the icon:

Is there a way to see who have been invited to a thread? What "Thread participants" used to communicate?
Luke Flegg Mon 8 Jul 2019 9:50AM
Loomio: It's a little unclear to me whether I'm commenting specifically ON my poll, or just generally in this thread full of polls and chat.
Also, I wanted to edit (re-word) some of the poll options while I was adding them, but clicking on options I've written just instantly deleted them. It's a bit annoying and reminds me of the bastardy way Gmail (until very recently) didn't let you edit email addresses after you've entered them into the 'To:' field. They just become an object you have to delete and type again from scratch.
Trusting we'll get Ctrl+Enter back for submitting as well? Think I saw that on the roadmap :)
All in all ruddy exciting
john gieryn Fri 5 Jul 2019 1:58PM
Worth changing the message here to something like "No results returned for your search"? The italicised info is also eye catching but probably low priority
Michael Thu 4 Jul 2019 2:30AM
When looking for the number of people in a group, I noticed some formatting oddity
Richard D. Bartlett Tue 9 Jul 2019 7:19AM
My hunch is there is an "affirmative no" which is different from "passive no". I'm guessing some of the passive No's are actually If-Need-Be's. Happy to wait and see if this is a real problem or if I just made it up.
Robert Guthrie Wed 3 Jul 2019 8:27PM
I'm not sure we're on the same page.
People don't actually choose No, all bars would be the same length if we included no votes. Is this what you want?
Richard D. Bartlett Wed 3 Jul 2019 8:55AM
hey @Robert Guthrie I think I want to see the "no" votes on the time poll results.
If Option A has 2 greens and 3 yellows, and Option B has 3 greens and 3 reds, I want to pick Option A. But the results chart only shows me greens and yellows so Option B will look more attractive.
Robert Guthrie Wed 3 Jul 2019 1:52AM

Possible bug from one of our users: "Notification settings seem awry, I am only really notified if someone creates a thread, and the ability to prioritise my subgroup seems buggy. I've set notifications for my subgroup to be everything, but I am not notified when someone comments on one of my threads, only if they specifically tag me."
