On-boarding Q&A for New Members!

We have known that our on-boarding process on social.coop needs a little TLC for some time- it can be daunting to navigate so many different sign ons all at once! Not to mention, Mastodon itself is a little confusing to figure out. With an exciting influx of new members, we thought we'd try to get the on-boarding party started with a Social.Coop 101 + Q&A. Noting that we're all scattered across many timezones, we'll record the session for those that can't attend and post it to this thread and open up discussion for any further follow up questions.

This graphic is from a strategy session. There are some updates that need to be made on it but may help give an overview of how we operate and the many ponderings of possible future directions for the co-op!

There are lots of interesting opportunities to boot-strap ourselves, and, everyone else, to a decent standard of living, by using coops as a way of creating infrastructure. :D
There already exists models of how to develop hardware designs collaboratively and internationally, as is done by Sensorica: https://www.sensorica.co/ventures/food-and-agriculture/greens-for-good

I would be happy to join a WG on cooperative development -- but would suggest to not limit ourselves to creating local coops - also cooperating with (other) transnational ones could be worthwhile, for instance

This is too early for me but I'm glad you're recording it. The main thing I'm interested in knowing is if there are ways to help support social.coop as a volunteer. :)

I would love to this 101 be recorded so me and others to see it. The session will be at 6 am (PST timezone) and by that time I am normally taking care of my daughter.

As a new member I'd really like this to happen, as I'd love to learn about how to contribute more, and the various possibilities for future developments of the coop that I'm seeing mention of on here. Just the days I'm available by 8AM, but honestly there's a high possibility I wouldn't be able to attend synchronously anyways and may need to rely on the recording.
