Let's get Sensorica appealing - Profiles

FB Fabio Balli Public Seen by 216

Adding an affiliate requires a lot of steps, including the creation of a profile (create the page, link it to the members document, have the person fill it, have people visit it, ...).

This takes time with little value, as people usually have other profiles, and these pages may not be visited. What if we simplified this ?

Proposal
- delete all profile pages
- add the LinkedIn address and a short description of expertise in https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D3UcOcrSZAownmk-aDN0mK89HVu271CTqqPomvTIenY/ by

Yes, it would simplify things. Be aware that there may be a flood of people joining just because of social media exposure...

I would be very wary of depending on LinkedIn for anything long term. Their goals are not our goals.

But I wouldn't block. If done, it won't kill anything and can be changed again later.

I think we need a solution tailored to our network which also reflects the participation level and other stats and ties into the VAS's data.

I ran out of space for my disagreement, and want to explain more. I agree with the direction of the proposal, just don't trust LinkedIn. They are searching for ways to monetize more.

The original OVN infrastructure stack included a personal profile service from which you could link to all of your various network memberships, including all the commercial ones. Some people are working on such a service. I would jump on that one immediately if they get it done.

Some other people from Enspiral, who are also talking to the personal profiles people, are working on an organizational relationship service that could replace everything on the Organization page in NRP. Their app is getting pretty nice.

Lynn is getting some NRP organization data together for them to beautify.

So I'm interested in partnering with like-minded software projects that agree to work together to make something great. It's a longer road. Sensorica may not want to go there now, you may want to do something short-term. Ok with me, but not where I am going.

I didn't know that we had the option of profile pages. My rockstar smile and charm would really have created a flood of people joining in :)

@bobhaugen @jimanastassiou Do you agree that the profiles require time while they don't add real value ?

LinkedIn is a platform where most of us already have a profile I believe. Maybe we could just say "profile" and let everyone choose whether they want to build their own page, refer to their website or to LinkedIn ?

Infos about participation : wouldn't it go in the VAS ?

I'm ok with using LinkedIn as a short-term thing. I have been thinking of deleting my account there because of spam, but would keep it alive if it was useful in the Sensorica network.

I don't agree that profiles have no value. For example, here's part of Jim's profile:
http://nrp.sensorica.co/accounting/agent-value-accounting/306/

That's just a starter for what can be done with that info. (And yes, we might want to make that more private to Jim, but as of now, it's public in the sense of open accounting. We haven't discussed where to draw those lines yet. But I'll assume this info is potentially useful to Jim.)

The people who are doing somewhat-OVN-aware profiles intend that your profile should provide views of info like that across all of the networks and services you belong to.

I don't speak of VAS profiles, I speak of Sensorica's profiles, which, if we speak of Jim, would be https://sites.google.com/site/sensoricahome/home/about-us/jim-anastassiou

@fabioballi - I knew which profiles you meant. I'm just suggesting that profiles could be valuable beyond their personal-marketing use, which I am way too old to care about.
