Who Moved My Discussion?

Danyl Strype PublicSeen by 43

At present it is possible to move a discussion back and forth between a main group and subgroups. However, when a discussion is moved, there is no notification of who moved it or why.

It would be good for a person moving a discussion to be able to give a reason for why it's being moved. A notification could then be posted in the comment thread, similar to those which appear when the Context Box is changed, saying:
"[Member X] moved this discussion from [wherever it was] because [reason given by Member X].

Great stuff @strypey. I couldn't agree more.

I think we need this feature. Also, when you move a discussion, it should detect if the people who have participated in it are members of the subgroup you're moving it to and pop up asking you if you want to add those people to the subgroup. Because otherwise the user experience for someone not in the subgroup is the discussion they started or participated in just disappears!

Yeah moving discussions could definitely be improved. See this example in the BLAG group for some examples of the problems with it. The thing is though, subgroups are not going to be around for much longer so we don't want to over-invest in design for a feature that will likely be obsolete soon.

So the question is, what's the easiest win to improve this feature?

Maybe changing the flash message so it says 'Discussion moved successfully. The following people have already participated in the discussion, but no longer have access to it: [Rich, Alanna, Ben]. You may want to add them to this subgroup.'

How do I prevent filling up the main inbox with all my groups internal discussions. There are a lot coming!
