INSPIRATION!
Quite simply, we need better, more sustainable business models. The promise of the sharing economy, powered by peer-to-peer connections on digital platforms, has not delivered. The results of economic disruption by a few monopolies are now clear: platform-driven precarious employment, accelerating disparities, dissolution of labour standards, undermining of regulatory safeguards, and the monetization of private data.
The co-operative enterprise model – joint ownership by stakeholders (employees, and/or customers, and/or communities) – can address two fundamental problems.
Co-op enterprises can disrupt and eventually stop the uberisation of wo

@julienlecaille it's very interesting, but I can't figure out who is behind it or much more about it. http://canada.coop/ seems to be the organizer but says their site is under construction.

the site is under maintenance, but we can have a profile on the facebook network :)
"CMC is a national, bilingual association that represents more than 18 million co-operative members from 9,000 co-operatives.
Through advocacy with the federal government, CMC provides a knowledgeable voice to encourage national policies that strengthen the co-operative economy. CMC also supports wide-ranging research in partnership with leading research institutions and government to inform policy."

Thanks. Very nice! http://platformcoop.ca/ appears to be still under construction. (That is not a complaint, things happen in their own time.)

@draft - thanks for your recap and the link to that other fascinating live-blog https://ingbrief.wordpress.com/tag/platformcoop/ - especially the parts about the legal complications.

Sorry to have missed this. Will mention to Marty Frost (the coop consultant who helped us to set up the I3 Investment Coop that is works with CM) when I see him on Wednesday. He's often asked to join these events - very highly reputed in coop world.

CMC - Cooperatives and Mutuals of Canada. That's the acronym for the latest iteration of a National Federation of Co-ops. This time in both official languages!

Aral Balkan from Ind.ie gave a great talk called 'Excuse me, your unicorn keeps shitting in my back yard, can he please not?', in which he sums up in half an hour the points about the VC and "startup" business model that @douglasrushkoff1 laid out in his 'Throwing Rocks...' book. Probably nothing in there that folks here don't know, but it's a great resource to chuck at folks who are still grasping for a systemic understanding of the problems they are seeing.
