Questions for former PPI members about resignations

BL Bailey Lamon Public Seen by 328

To be sent to Pirate Parties: Australia, UK, Iceland, Sweden, Belgium...This conversation will also be had with my fellow Canadian pirates, but it needs to wait a while, until there is less tension on this topic.

I will give them the information about upcoming meetings regarding GA feedback, since there were people who attended the GA from these non-member parties.

Questions:

-What are the problems with PPI that made your party resign?
-In regards to the issues you listed, how do you feel PPI should have handled them, as opposed to how we did at the time of your resignation and/or leading up to it?
-Do you think that PPI has any strengths that can built upon, if so, what are they?
-Do you have any suggestions for specific improvements you would like to see in PPI as a whole? How can we move this organization forward?
-If you could imagine a perfect PPI, what would it look like? How would it function? What is its role in the Pirate community?

After we get responses from these parties and we understand where they are coming from, I would like to contact board members who served at the time of these resignations. I think in some cases they will be current board members as well, and that is fine. As long as we understand all perspectives.

I will also be contacting current members of PPI, with similar questions but more generally focused on improvements they would like to see (I’ll just re-word the above questions to fit this context better).

I think at that point, when we’ve heard from everyone, we’ll have a clearer vision for necessary changes/improvements and how to make them happen. This feedback will also be useful for developing communication plans overall, including the mailing list, support for activism, etc.

Is there anything you feel should be done differently? Do any of the questions appear poorly worded or inappropriate?

Thank you Bailey for initiating this draft. I agree that it is very important to try to keep everyone on board. As I mentioned as well, I think that we should also make an outreach to PPI members who have not been active in a while. This may require a general outreach to all PPI members, but first let's hear from the pariahs. Below are my suggested revisions to the questions or additional comments. You may want to contact the previous board members, as you suggested, to get information prior to initiating contact with each party. I assume that you will be sending this correspondence as an email and format as such.

Questions:

Original
-What are the problems with PPI that made your party resign?

Revised
(Perhaps spin it as follows: 'We are currently exploring ways to reform PPI to welcome back former members. We would like to hear from you about the steps that PPI can take to promote collaboration with . If you could provide us with some feedback to the following questions, our board will give your responses the utmost attention. Please feel free to make any additional comments or ask us any questions...

-What are the issues or problems with PPI that motivated to resign?

Original
-In regards to the issues you listed, how do you feel PPI should have handled them, as opposed to how we did at the time of your resignation and/or leading up to it?

Revised
How do you feel PPI should have handled these issues previously?

Original
-Do you think that PPI has any strengths that can built upon, if so, what are they?

Revised
What are the strengths and/or weaknesses of PPI that we can build on?

Original
-Do you have any suggestions for specific improvements you would like to see in PPI as a whole? How can we move this organization forward?

Revised
(This first part of the question is fine, but I recommend prefacing it with what we really want to know: what can we do to bring you back...)

Do you have any suggestions for specific improvements you would like to see in PPI as a whole? Is there something specific that PPI can do to bring back?

Original
-If you could imagine a perfect PPI, what would it look like? How would it function? What is its role in the Pirate community?
(This question is fine)
