Monthly Updates - January 2015

Lynn Foster PublicSeen by 307

Time for our monthly updates again! (I for one find it very useful to keep up with what people are doing.)

Format:

  • What have I done since last month?
  • What will I do until next month?
  • What is blocking me from moving forward?
  • What motivates me most in this process at the time?

I provided my update.

Work has kicked off on our tools for Dev Academy's open education protocol. I've got a few talks about the project lined up in Feb and March.

  1. @bobhaugen and I have been heads down on the value equation and distribution of income for NRP. Lots of tweaks to the logic for Sensorica's needs, especially their exchange firm concept - following the value flow backwards when another agent sold the product or service that you created or performed.

We also did a round of updates to our tutorials (slideshows linked from https://github.com/valnet/valuenetwork/wiki/Tutorials), which also include relevant concepts. We're feeling like we're close to rounding out the NRP functionality at a working prototype level, even with lots of issues and work remaining.

Also, meeting with the PLP guys and others, looking into the distance at the potential of LOD interoperability among us.

  1. Next: We're taking a bit of a step back to think, and have some travel and meetings to follow up with some potentially interesting connections around NRP. And some code and of course support.

  2. Wondering if the Opens Apps Ecosystem is losing momentum? (Not actually blocking us, but we're still wondering in the context of moving forward from here.)

  3. Syriza, FairCoop, change happening in the world.

Thanks for the update @lynnfoster :-) YES... change is happening for sure!

Great time had meeting with guys at Qoin in Amsterdam last week... as well as Leander Bindwald from http://neweconomics.org/

I doubt that I will be ready to annouce the metareact reactive metaprogramming framework in 5 days but I am starting to generate code.

Why is this relevant? Well, I started working on this when I realized that I needed a framework that would increase my productivity because in the OVN space, we have a dire need for programmers.

Some of the things I want for the generated code is to make most variables immutable. Secondly, functions should not inherit any variables from outside due to being closures.
Thirdly, I want to find the most optimal way to do the above. (I have already done 2 of the three, not the last)

If some more experienced in javascript want to give me some hints, I would be delighted.

  1. After I finish the above, I will start producing some general infrustructure programs, for example a server that sends json to many different protocols is first in my priorities. Then I will start working on my version of an NRP.

@xekoukou - "Then I will start working on my version of an NRP."

Excellent! We need another set of eyes on this subject. Would be even better if you could collaborate on the OVN vocab so we could internetwork.

hi there!

not sure if it could be seen yet as an update but, just started to work with Bob and Lynn, testing NRP for GNUnion and its projects. Will be getting more concerte for coming weeks and will look forward to mesh with others here. Like @Joshua would be intersting to see how things work at your Dev Academy, since one of our projects is a networked worker to worker self-learinging system. so that is it for now! - ps. great work is being done here hope it would expand and grow. best

Hi: have been busy updating website, writing scripts for communicating it's 'what, why, how', working with co-op consultant developing business model, met with our currency partner Qoin (and Leander Bindewald of NEF) in Amsterdam. Qoin have submitted a partner proposal to our sponsor, whom I have a 4hour update meeting with on March 9.

Building network and outlines for future hangouts. Would be great to have @joshuavial and someone from Sensorica in one before too long. Here's a copy and paste of an email sent to Enric Duran Giralt FairCoop - cc'd Michel Bauwens and others in our team:
Platform: decentralized communication tools, yes. Lots of discussion on 'what's possible' here. Our intention is to create a structural backbone, which then connects with tools in as open, distributed way as possible.

Thanks for the link to FairtoEarth. I used Google Translate for the home page, but can only speak very basic Spanish - sorry! Look forward to learning more about this and the 'Money Transmitter License' - not a familiar term. FairtoEarth: A monetary tool aimed at building a new post-capitalist economy. Fairtoearth is a set of tools must to make easier the connection between faircoin and cash worldwide

Currency Exchange: this will be built by our currency partner Qoin. You can read about it's intention on the microsites home page. The was it's designed will be determined in collaboration with people who share our values and goals. Communicating their ideas will be achieved through the Hangouts. Here's a blog about the upcoming currency hangout on March 5th. Promotional video will be launched soon. We would be pleased to include Faircoin within the exchange.

Here's a link to CM's programmer, Eric's Stackoverflow profile. When funding comes in to allow his to work on it full-time, the intention is that he will build the core backbone. We will make it 'Linux style' open source, and incorporate Peer Production Licenses. The tools we need to achieve our goals will be decided together in a similar way to the currency exchange.

CM is about uniting people and tools out there for facilitating the movement powerful enough to change governance and business for good! By working together I believe we can attract enough funding to make a united vision come to life.

Note: @joshuavial Michel couldn't see Loomio discussions we posted from his dashboard. very strange! ...so we used our tool for building microsites to host discussions instead. Hope to chat more around this in due course.. figure out what the issue was/is and if/how Loomio tools and CM platform can best connect.
