Arabic translation project on Transifex

Wael Al-Saad Sat 11 Oct 2014 7:41AM

I have always a problem in translation "community"

I think تجمع fits better than المجتمع المحلي

أرى أيضا كلمة "ناس" لا تليق جيدا

أفضل : أناس أو أشخاص

هنالك اقتراحات أخرى ساسردها لاحقا

Sounds reasonable! Go ahead and edit as you see appropriate :)

thx for welcoming @mixirving ..
@ammarhalabi ive been away for a while ..
I work as managing director for the wooden furniture factory(family business) in Palestine (from Jenin)

Here how ive introduced my self to the loomio community>
Hi loomios
actually I was deep depressed the last days and finding loomio today gave meenergy to stand up and look forward.
Yes, my name is Arab; am Palestinian lived in Germany 17 years and returned home 2009. Since then I work within our family business now managing the wooden furniture factory.

To know abit who I am any my relation to Loomio; 2004 I’ve started advocating for global Palestine beyond borders ending my self putting up a vision for Global Brain Application.
I wish to follow my inner-callings and follow my dream is to build open source ecovillages for appropriate economy around the world which will connect the healing power of humanity and nature. What holds me back to do start working on my dreams is bit complicated ..

I am here to support loomio design and share some ideas I gained along the visions I have, like implementing open translation tools in the process to design a tool for global governance bond to patterlanguage and geographical layering of common decision topics.
I would be happy to join the translation group (?) to help setting up the Arabic version of loomio to build afterwords local loomio community in Palestine which will help spreading it ..

In Spirit and Love

i did new translations .. why the old one are not visible on https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/loomio-1/language/ar/

Ammar Halabi Sat 25 Oct 2014 4:13PM

@mixirving, thanks! We will be checking it during next week :)

@waelalsaad, I think new translations are not automatically propagated to the live site - they need to be manually copied every now and then..

Ammar Halabi Sat 25 Oct 2014 4:19PM

@mixirving, I couldn't log-in using the credentials you gave, but looking at the Arabic comments you copied RTL suport seems working fine (punctuation is well positioned).. However, Arabic text needs to be aligned to the right as well.

mix irving Sat 25 Oct 2014 10:56PM

@waelalsaad thanks for telling us about yourself, that's really humbling.

I'll deploy the translations you've done done now. If you want to understand our process check out this description here : https://github.com/loomio/loomio/wiki/Translation#how-to-get-translations-up-on-loomioorg

I hope that answers your question.

@ammarhalabi thanks for checking that out. I'll see if I can fix styling and get that up for testing

There is an issue at transifex using Mobile browser (I've tried on android browser, CM, firefox) : this page is not loaded completely. User can't scroll down:

another issue: Arabic still doesn't appear in the language options list on loomio.

mix irving Wed 10 Dec 2014 9:26AM

Hi @waelalsaad , sorry it's taken so long to reply - I've been traveling for the last month (and have only been watching at-mentions).

Unfortunately, we have no control over how Transifex works. If you're still interested in having that fixed you could try lodging a bug report with them at their site

With regard to Arabic not being selectable - we typically wait until the Main translation reaches 80% before making a language selectable. You can access Arabic by adding ?locale=ar to addresses, e.g. https://www.loomio.org/d/ur3wmsCv/arabic?locale=ar should show you the arabic version of this page.
The reason we don't wait till 80% is that the parts not yet translated will display in English, and this could be a confusing and off-putting experience users.

If you would like to disagree with this perspective I am we are happy to discuss it and experiment with enabling Arabic earlier than usual.
