It could be usefull to have a button inviting all the members of a group to a subgroup.

Instead select each contact, on by one.

This could be really simple... just a "select all" checkbox on the members checkbox list.

@alanna Hmm, yeah that’s one way to do it and may be a good short-term solution. However, I think that there’s a deeper issue here around subgroups vs. categories. For example, take these two subgroups:

  1. Loomio Community - Contributors - A subset of the Loomio Community which contributes to the running of the project on a regular basis
  2. Loomio Community - Feature Ideas - Discussions in the Loomio Community relating to features.

Really #2 is more like a category (a type of discussion) than a subgroup (a subset of individuals). Ideally, categories should be open and frictionless (i.e. you can post to them right away, and you don’t have to “join” them or anything like that, but perhaps you can “subscribe” to them), whereas groups have friction built into them by design to control membership.

I’m still not sure how to make these two concepts play together or if we could somehow meld them all into one feature. I think it needs some serious design thought. I’d be keen to hear if anyone has some creative solutions or ideas!

@jonlemmon we had pretty much exactly that same conversation this morning. Definitely starting to feel the need for discussion categories eh.

@richarddbartlett yeah... there's several different ways we could do it too. And it's one of those decisions that can have big long-term impacts and be hard to reverse afterwards.

So I reckon for this particular feature we wanna explore as much of the problem/solution space as possible (probably with interviews and user-tests) before making a decision about how to implement it.
