The Australian Online Direct Democracy Party (Formally Senator Online) aims to give EVERY Australian – for the first time - a DIRECT VOICE into our country’s parliament.
Democracy - is all about letting the citizens of a Country have a say in how things are done – in the most fairest and most truly representative way. It is not meant to be the voice of a powerful few – but the voice of a majority of the people. Australia’s compulsory voting system – helps re-inforce the ideal for creating a true democracy – decisions made FOR the people – BY the people.

Founded in 2007 by Berge Der Sarkissian, our party contested the 2007, 2010 & 2013 Federal elections under the party’s original name of ‘Senator Online’. Despite having some very high profile Candidates in NSW for the 2013 election - including Australian comedian, producer & political commentator TIM FERGUSON, Australian Actor TONY BARRY and former Australian professional Rugby League footballer DON McKINNON - the party recieved the greatest success in the State of VICTORIA, where it recieved 0.09% of the vote. The party has always aimed to first achieve an elected candidate to the Australian Senate - which can be achieved with a primary vote as low as 2%.

The Core Staff & Delegates Group (11 members) & the 4 members of the Executive Committee (EC) that work for the Party voted over the last 6 months to change the name. We changed the party’s name from "Senator Online" to "Online Direct Democracy" so in contesting the 2016 Federal Election we can run for House of Represenative seats AND Senate Seats. The new name is fully registered and approved by the AEC.

The Australian Online Direct Democracy Party aims to give back the power of decision-making to the citizens of Australia – rather than into the hands of politicians - which for many systemic reasons - don’t ALWAYS accurately represent the wishes of the citizens who elected them. Due to technological inventions such as the internet - around Australia and around the world – there is a growing demand for - and use of – the internet - to facilitate Direct Democracy & Citizen based collective decision making. There are only a few current examples around the world of Electronic Direct Democray or EDD. Some of the most successful, truly democratic parties using EDD from around the world include the Partido De La Red in Argentina, the Podemos Party in Spain, the People’s Administration Direct Democracy Party of the UK & the Direktdemokraterna Party in Sweden.

The first quarter of the 21st Century has become an exciting time for Australian politics. For the first time in Australian history – we now have THREE major political parties in the Australian Parliament – instead of decades of a DUOPOLY between the traditional two parties of LIBERAL versus LABOR. For the first time in political history – there is now some“competition”. Voters wishes are increasingly being listened to. And for the first time – a completely grassroots – citizen funded party has emerged and that is of the Australian Greens. A party NOT funded by big business, multinationals, or Labor Unions. - But instead funded by its members – ordinary Australian citizens.

Our Party – the Online Direct Democracy Party – wants to build on this momentum for change. We want to implement – for the first time – a system where the Australian public can vote on legislation before the parliament in real time via the internet. From your home PC or your Mobile or Your tablet – you can be informed of the proposed laws before the parliament – and you can have your say on any particular legislation that may affect you. We will build into the system – the ability for you to select portfolios that concern YOU – whether that be the Budget/Economy/Deficit or whether it be Health or the Environment or issues of Defence. For the first time YOU will be able to take part in the decisionmaking processses of our Nation.

SO HOW DOES OUR SYSTEM WORK?
Firstly a member of the public who is registered as an Australian voter – will register with Online Direct Democracy and either download the mobile app or get login details for the website via their home PC. Once registered, a member of the public can vote for free on Bills at any time while Bills are in the house of Reps and the Senate. One vote is allowed per registered voter and voting is NOT compulsory. The voter will be sent the details of the Bill or legislation via the website or via their Mobile App, together with the Pros and Cons of each Bill. The ODD Website and App will provide clear and concise, balanced information, pros and cons, expert opinions and the potential impact on society of Bills. The Online Direct Democracy Website will then publish the results of the Public vote on the given Bill. Then, any of the Online Direct Democracy MP’s or Senators that HAVE BEEN ELECTED into the parliament will vote in accordance with a clear majority of the public vote as determined by the results of the votes counted on the website and the Mobile App.
