Collective structure + structure of this loomio

JD Jesse Doud Public Seen by 28

In preparation on how to best structure this loomio group and it's subgroups, I read through our google docs and did not find much organization information. There's nothing there on our consensus style, voting or quorum.

Really i'm interested in having a discussion about two things:

  1. How has group consensus been achieved in the past?

  2. How do we want to set up this group (do we want all groups public, some groups public and some subgroups private?) How do we feel about anyone at anytime being able to vote on proposals, regardless of current physical involvement in the shop?

I think there's a lot to work out in this area, but a great place to start would be some info from those members who've been around for a while (i.e. not me :)

This came up a while ago regarding whether we had a formal 'collective' or not. It seems like whoever has been running workshop sessions or has recently been and is still involved/plans to be so in the future has had equal say over decisions. I guess a very informal structure based on current or intended future participation.
Regarding decision making it seems to be, again, informal everyone has a say and generally we come to a decision everyone has been happy with. In saying that we have only really had to decide on purchasing new parts (cables, housing, pads) and everything else has seemed pretty essential ie tools.

I guess if he formalised a collective structure then that would tend towards collective decision making by collective members. Formal membership might be difficult as involvement has seemed to be quite transient or patchy with people being involved sporadically.
