Doodle/ Sandbox concept
I think we could roll the Doodle and Sandbox features together a little.
Something like set up a system where there are 10 concurrent groups allowed and when a new one is made the oldest falls off the back.
OR a group only lasts for 5 days
This would allow a little persistence for groups to be able to use a quick public Loomio and try it
Maybe also a static juicy exemplar for people to have a look at
Context
This discussion is in regards to two features which have been discussed in the past:
- Sandbox - an area for anyone to try Loomio before making a decision about whether or not they want to use it with their group
- Ad-hoc or "Doodle-style" decisions. As in, you start a decision outside of a specific group, and then you just fill in the emails of people you'd like to be involved in the decision. This would lower the barrier-to-entry for Loomio because you wouldn't need to have a group set up to start a decision.
Sorry John, after reading this discussion description three times, I feel like i'm missing something major. Whats it all about?
Just to set the context a bit, John is talking about two features which have been discussed in the past:
- Sandbox - an area for anyone to try Loomio before making a decision about whether or not they want to use it with their group
- Ad-hoc or "Doodle-style" decisions. As in, you start a decision outside of a specific group, and then you just fill in the emails of people you'd like to be involved in the decision. This would lower the barrier-to-entry for Loomio because you wouldn't need to have a group set up to start a decision.
I'm not so sure about this. I think that ad hoc loomios should be persistent and should also be able to be private. This way groups can start using Loomio on an ad hoc basis and then Loomio can naturally encourage them to create a formal group (which could potentially keep the history of their previous ad hoc decisions).
Also, we want the ad hoc functionality to be really simple and usable, stripped back and functional. I think mixing it in with the sandbox might complicate this and make it feel more like a "sandbox" and less like a useful tool.
sorry that wasn't super clear @aaronthornton. thanks for clarifying @jonlemmon, i see your perspective and think i agree.
Yesterday at the invitation process workshop (https://www.loomio.org/discussions/1830 — see Update 3 from RDB) the steps for onboarding a new group were set out. There are a lot of steps. It made me think that building a Doodle-style Loomio will be quite a challenge.
What's Sandbox?
