Idea: Ability to invite user to Group by @username, not just email
When creating a Group, you can only invite people by email. Well, I don't know the email addresses of people on Loomio, but I'd sure like to be able to invite them!
@gregorycassel Good point. Restriction idea: what if you can only invite someone to a Group if you're already in an existing Group with them? I guess someone could just join every group, hmm...
People might find that idea interesting, @elimisteve. I personally wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'd probably prefer to simply allow for more informative profiles, which would facilitate private communication (through emails, fb, IM etc) when desired.
@gregorycassel I agree! That very thing can (suddenly) be discussed here: https://www.loomio.org/d/7nJLR2gB/idea-allow-users-to-include-their-contact-info-in-their-profiles
I would ideally like an invitation similar to Trello. You start typing someone's name and if they are already in your organisation it knows who you mean. If they aren't, but they are a Trello user, it will suggest people with that name. Or you can invite them using their email.
@alandavison I agree that that'd be very convenient, but what do you think about @gregorycassel's comment above? It reads, in part:
I can imagine people getting lots of invitations from strangers which they don’t really want, ...
I think that's a pretty powerful idea but perhaps there's a better way. I can imagine people getting lots of invitations from strangers which they don't really want, which would not only annoy them but decrease the efficiency of the time they spend on Loomio.
However, @elimisteve , I do think it'd be great for users to have the option to provide contact info in their personal Loomio profile.
