[Meeting] Create links with Digilife, DivvyDAO, RChain, etc.
Hi everyone !
We'd like to organise a meeting with digilife on one of their zoom conference. @jimwhitescarver proposed the idea. @olisb seemed interested.
The objective of the meeting could be : Define how we can work together. I think it would be good to prepare this meeting.
I'm gonna open a new decision for the date as soon as possible.
Cooporations may include participation in the Social Ledger Trial as a tool to help OAE self-organize and Developing a Decision Matrixes for selecting open apps.
"I am hoping a couple people here commit to participation in the social ledger trial ASAP. "
Hi @jimwhitescarver I see you have been updating your Gdoc on the trial - but I'm still not sure I fully understand the objectives, or much of the terminology, properly... I emailed you too if you'd like to take this up outside Loomio...?
I would be keen to join a call in order to get to grips with all the Diglife ideas :)
"I am also hoping a few people fiddle with their sliders and add criteria and tools to https://deslider.com:3666/diglife"
I had a quick look at that but don't think I'm well placed to comment / add to that / and again I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to do there...
If we can join a call on the 22nd Sept (first Friday I am free), or another day when others are free too, it would be great to explore the objectives of Diglife, the trial and how we might be able to collaborate. (I prefer meetings with really well defined agendas).
Thanks for pushing for this to happen @draft :)
best
Oli
Thanks for the email. I hope we can work together.
In deslider just slide up any criteria you feel may be important. Add another criteria you have for software you want. If you used any option listed you could slide up or down some criteria like "easy of use". Add an option for software you like that is not listed. Just slide anything you feel like sliding and we might get some crowd wisdom out of it.
We may decide to have a version only experts participate in later but now we want to get feedback on the tool from everyone.
No offense but I'm concerned about describing this as a meeting "between OAE and Digilife" , because OAE hasn't been clearly defined as anything other than a concept and a goal.
OAE is not a defined team or group. In my opinion, no person or combination of persons can properly "represent" OAE in any specific context, such as a meeting with Digilife.
I think it'd be fine for anyone to talk about OAE with people from Digilife, as long as no one presents themselves as a representative of OAE.
"OAE hasn't been clearly defined as anything other than a concept and a goal."
The open app ecosystem is something that will exist independent of any particular organization. I am part of a number of organizations fostering open apps and I am hoping we can work together to make OAE more than just a concept. I believe participation in the social ledger trial can help make that happen.
I believe participation in the social ledger trial can help make that happen.
I wish you good luck in creating learnings and valuable resources through that.
I'm not personally in favor of DigLife's effort to raise money via paid (Founder) memberships, so early in its existence. But that doesn't mean that that effort won't be fair and sustainable. I just think it's risky-- plus I have no money to invest.
Anyway, I'm too swamped with pressing work to give much attention to the effort, but I'll try to remain open-minded regarding DigLife's development.
DigLife is certainly encouraging other funding mechanisms besides member dues but in frustration we are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore and putting our money where our mouth in helping fund the tech we trust for the world we want.
If you are working in that space DigLife hopes to help fund you. The trial is for organizations outside diglife and no membership is required. The Social Ledger software is being developed for everyone including development team members who are not DigLife members.
If a few people here join http://diglife.com/to/lab to participate in http://diglife.com/to/trials and/or exercise deslider.com:3666/diglife I believe it will prove valuable.
@jimwhitescarver sorry if I should know some of this. But I'm trying to make sure I understand how this could fit into the ecosystem. Is all the software open source? Could it be eventually interfaced with other tools so things can be plugged together? Would you want it to?
Or are you looking at DigLife in another way organizationally in relation to the OAE, rather than as part of the OAE software suite? Such as funding, etc.
@draft I perceive that you're eager to make stuff happen and that can be a great thing. To supplement my last comment: I suggest that enthusiastic people like you could try to build a specific team which pursues a specific goal, such as developing OAE.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend that the team use the name "OAE". That could be okay if the team seems really inclusive, and using the name doesn't seem to create any big tensions or conflicts. However, it might be safer for the team to use another name-- something very distinctive and unique-- while directly identifying itself with the OAE concept.
It was just to be concise and easy to understand ;)
I actually don't care that much about my title :D You could change it if you want !
I edited the title : change the "OAE" into a "us". Don't know if it's better for you.
I edited the title : change the "OAE" into a "us". Don't know if it's better for you.
It's a little better, but I care more about what actually happens during a meeting than I care about what anyone calls it. :) My goals always include accurate and effective communication, including a clear distinction between personal action and "collective action".
OK for me on 22nd Sept at 12PM (NY Time). Someone else ?
I'm completely swamped right now, would like to attend if other things don't get in the way, but it is secondary for me. So, I'll not fill in the time poll, but will attend if I can when the time comes.
22nd Sept at 12PM (NY Time) is good.
PLEASE participate in https://deslider.com:3666/diglife and give some feedback. Move some of your sliders, weight some criteria and rate some options, add some options and criteria. Few in diglife are participating so I'm hoping folks here might take the lead.
In this video with Travis the decision matrix "deslider" starts at 37:30 https://youtu.be/06HD4qxKuDU?t=7m28s.
Is all the software open source?
Yes. The repo is by invitation right now but you can be added. diglife is 100% committed to open source.
Could it be eventually interfaced with other tools so things can be plugged together? Would you want it to?
Yes. The social ledger is ultimately everything we say and do together which means we want to integrate it with any collaborative tools we use.
Tomorrow we are scheduled to meet with the digital life collective diglife.com at noon NY time in https://zoom.us/j/325772225
I believe @olisb and @draft have planned to attend. I have been backed up due to hurricane irma and being without power for a week. Do we want to answer questions about OAE tomorrow or should we postpone?
It might be best for us to meet among ourselves first, say 11am NY time tomorrow in https://zoom.us/j/6853551826
Thanks for the reminder @jimwhitescarver ! I'll try to attend, but not sure yet. Do you think you can record it so people can watch it later?
likewise - thanks for the reminder @jimwhitescarver - that makes it 5pm for me in London which means I will have my daughter with me, but I might still be able to attend if I can set her up with some coding homework to do while we chat ;)
Do we have an agenda of any sorts?
I've not used Zoom before but presume it's straightforward and will click on the 2nd link above for the pre-meet as soon as I can after 11 (which may be more like 11.45)
Best
Oli
same here thanks jim
it'll be 8PM in Reunion
I'll do my best to be there as well
the agenda is not fixed until the start of the meeting. We can record the pre meeting and the diglife meeting itself is recorded.
In the pre meeting we can discuss potential use of the social ledger trial. Join now to check it out.
I suppose an introduction to OAE should be given and possibilities of cooperation discussed in the main meeting. What link(s) do we want to share with diglife?
I'll make it today to the meetings, with a slight bit of multi-tasking at the earlier one with another meeting. (The other one is in chat only, so allows multi-tasking. 🙂 )
pre-meeting in 10 minutes in https://zoom.us/j/6853551826
sorry I'm a bit late
had the kids to manage
if any one is still up for a call I'm around
@tiborkatelbach - Lynn and I attended, but we also apologized for our absence from OAE doings for awhile. We have been buried in two of our participatory action research projects, FairCoop and LearnDeep. But we got at least one more convert to an OAE way of looking at apps in FairCoop, and maybe two. Lynn is doing a mapping between Gitlab and a new API for FairCoop's OCP software using the ValueFlows vocabulary. And somewhere in that process, we'll see if the Communecter vocab translator can fit in.
More to come...
[Edit] Actually, we both attended the pre-meeting, and Lynn attended the real meeting...
We had a good meeting. I am very happy @draft and @olisb are on board for participation in the Social Ledger trial with an Open App Ecosystem team! Here is the video of our meeting with diglife today https://youtu.be/K4WWU2Gh_n4
Here is the invite link
@draft and @olisb - please let us know when you get started. We'll join you, as soon as we can come up for breath. Maybe middle of next week.
@bobhaugen I've juste seen your message :D
So , yeah no problem I think it's better to take our time to build something really resilient so no hurry.
I will be back to you in about a week ;)
I'd like to have at least a minimal framework in place asap. Our key links are defined in the main channel (/dig activities). Cosystem and single signon channels exist so far.
Please join asap so you can be added to activities you are involved in as they are added in channels. It's okay to delay other participation until you are ready.
This short first steps video demo I made today may help you get started in the social ledger trial
I do intend to engage, but life is busy. By this weekend, latest.
Diglife holds community meetings monday wednesday and friday at 12 noon NY time. I can put us on the agenda most any time. I am hoping a couple people here commit to participation in the social ledger trial ASAP. I am also hoping a few people fiddle with their sliders and add criteria and tools to https://deslider.com:3666/diglife
