Non-hacknight hack times

S Sharon Public Seen by 315

At our Open Mic Night, it was brought up that breakout groups need more time and space to actually hack. Tuesday hacknights are mostly used for networking, onboarding, and project management, so groups need more time to get stuff done.

Please leave your thoughts! You can optionally use the emoji format below to clarify each type of statement. One statement per reply can help people react directly. (You are totally welcome to do it free-form, too!)

LEGEND
:mag: Fact. :mag Things we all agree to be true.
 Feeling. Subjective. Not disputable. Optionally supported by facts.
:bulb: Idea. :bulb: Ways forward. Ideally based on facts & feelings.

If you see a feeling statement that you agree with, please do use a :+1: :+1: reaction emoji to +1 it.

As the conversation moves forward, feel free to use the decision tools on the left. Each can be dropped into the conversation as many times as needed help arrive at the final outcome.

This process of conversation and decisions-making may go on for a few weeks or longer -- there's no rush!

Summary

  • :mag: Ideas raised here are NOT necessarily the responsibility of core organizers to execute. (patcon)
  • I feel that more responsibility that CTTO organizers take on, the harder it'll be to do the most important stuff well (gabe)
  • :bulb: CTTO as an organization should focus on running awesome weekly inclusive hacknights with minimal admin overhead.

Ranked decision-making feels a bit premature before we've truly had a discussion yet (aside from the 40 people at the event, only a few of whom had a chance to speak)

Updated context to guide people new to Loomio based on some reading I did :)

I still have some related thoughts to put forward, and hoping to hear other's thoughts, so I might hold out on voting until I understand motivations a bit better :)

Ok maybe I jumped the gun with the poll... I'll close it for now.

Let's discuss the options in the thread... I'm sure there are other options I haven't thought of! And then later we can revisit the poll when we clarify the options.

@sharon48 & co: thoughts on making title of thread something like this:
How can project work be better supported both inside and outside hacknights?

Also, to calibrate, I'm hoping we can run this thread for a few weeks, or even longer. I was going to start a Loomio thread about this too, but instead could merge my intent in here :) (Not that nested proposals can't bubble up before then.)

 I feel worried about putting more onus/complications on venues and the organizer booking them.

:mag: A handful of CivicTechTO members are also members of HackLab at Queen & Dufferin.

:mag: HackLab members can host events at the space for free, at any time.
