Greetings, Block Harm group! I'm Kendall, a Buddhist practitioner since I was fourteen years old, a civil rights activist since I was nineteen. I was born "white" in the South, grew up in a military family, and began trying to combine my Buddhism with my passion to undo racism in the 60s in the era of lunch-counter sit-ins. In 2015 I discovered that Portland has a chapter of Buddhist Peace Fellowship, an organization that is about combining Buddhist practice and political activism. This Block Harm group is how we stand together to block racist ideology, the power of white supremacy, fossil fuel dependence, fascism, and all the ways harm arises to cause suffering for those who are vulnerable in American society. Buddhists devoted to Blocking Harm are stable in their practice and ready to stand up in public for compassion and justice. We support rallies, vigils, and protests created by Black people, People of Color, LGBTQI people, Muslims, and Immigrant Justice groups. Please join us in finding ways to block harm. We welcome fresh ideas and hope to do more public sitting, standing, and walking meditations. We are open to blockades, silent protests, street theatre, flower-bombing, yarn-bombing, crane-folding, vigils, and any of a thousand creative ways to put our bodies in the public sphere for our beliefs. All we need is for YOU to come forward with your ideas, energy, and leadership. Do you have a vision for an action that will block harm? Bring it to us and let us join you.
