Getting local Primary Schools involved in PITP this year 2019

KW Kimberley Walker Public Seen by 133

Hi everyone, hoping everybody is well. I just thought I would update the members on the stuff me and the charming Naomi have been up too.

I contacted 4 Local Primary Schools.
Grinling Gibbons, Tidemill, Deptford Park & Alfred Salter.
I asked them if they would be interested in taking part of our exciting programme this year.

Grinling Gibbons Primary School, after meeting the head master, was really excited about being involved. They have their own steelpan group, a choir, and would love to make a street puppet to parade at the festival based on Unity in the Community!

We're hoping to engage more young people and parents through going to
parents evenings. Aiming at having a Youth Performance Stage at the festival.

We've also been sourcing free materials and fabric from businesses to support the puppet making.

Naomi will be putting together a in school pack that can be left on any school noticeboard, to encourage people to sign on the variety of involvement lists, re volunteering etc.

Will keep everyone posted!

Thanks for taking up this initiative Kimberley, how can others get involved and support you?

Sounds like a win there, result!! On the 'pack' for schools to display to get people interested we'd thought: badges, a t shirt, last years programme, volunteer sign up sheet, a couple of date neutral posters from the stock ones in google and a selection of photos that show particularly the family oriented side.

Would really welcome views on that, and whether anything else could usefully be displayed!

Great to see you both making use of Loomio, lets get everyone else in on this now. Folk can go to the PITPNXD Loomio page and request membership or we can invite them and await their response. I will invite everyone else from the existing list but perhaps you have others in mind to invite.

Hi Kimberley this is a great idea, I am fully behind it, it'll be fantastic to get more local kids/schools/groups involved.

Thanks Matt, I’m aiming at getting a couple of local primary schools involved, but also I’ve been approaching local radio stations to promote PITP! Colourful Radio is based in the Africa Center. I went to meet them and they are totally interested in working with us to create a performance stage for young people at this years Festival. It’s still early days, but I’m hoping to get them to fund the cost of having that stage. Also they have invited us to promote the festival later on in the year, I suggested maybe involving some of the Primary School kids to have that experience on live radio promoting their local event.
