Giant Robot Arm

JK Jorån Kikke Public Seen by 199

It's possible a giant robot arm might be setup in the space

It will take up some room and it potentially dangerous, but also awesome

Setup in place of the Mechmate CNC once it moves out

Depends what the main function is. If it will substantially produce dust, it should go into the extension

Setup in place of the Mechmate CNC once it moves out

It can be setup in a restrained mode until people make tools and then it can go next door? It might take a few months for it to actually be useful. Needs workflow setup and calibrating. Unless theres lots of room next door...

It's a motoman HP6 with a NX100 controller. It has internal cabling for an air line and power. This arm was used for arc welding in the past.
It can carry a 6kg tool.

Also I have no idea if it works...

It might be neat to put it on a moveable platform with drop down legs - that way it could operate outside if needed for bigger things?

a few problems with having it movable.

  1. arms are usually enclosed by a safety barrier because they're really good at killing people.
  2. the arm needs to operate on a very level surface.
  3. the arm needs to know where it is exactly in relation to the work piece.
  4. the arm needs good electrical earthing
  5. the cable from the controller to the arm isn't very long.

It may be possible to have it moveable, but you'd need a longer cable, some computer vision stuff so the arm could map it's environment in 3D using photogrammetry and lots of time.
