New Feature: Diversity Filters?

Matt Noyes PublicSeen by 52

Give users the option of indicating gender, poc, lgbtq... so a group can be aware of equity and diversity issues.

Example: we are organizing an online meeting of a working group; we did a time poll. Not everyone can meet on every day. The day on which most can attend happens to be inconvenient for most women in the group. If we choose the option that is good for most people, that will reduce the diversity.

It would be useful to be able to quickly see this, so as to ensure diversity of participants. Maybe a "diversity" ranking alongside the "how many people chose this option" ranking?

If this would ever be included, please make sure that it is an opt-in feature. All communities don’t have this approach to addressing diversity, and it should not be forced upon a community.

Yea, totally agree with/understand that @hugi.

The intention is that sometime soon you'll be able to give yourself a title, for a group or a thread via the membership card.

As an extension of this, I can imagine also giving users the option to fill in values for keys defined by the group admin. So when you edit your membership for a group or thread, you can also fill in your age, or whatever, if you wish. Probably free-form rather than validated.

I understand why this could be problematic and should be opt-in, maybe it is a question of being able to filter results, based on a voluntary self-classification? I would suggest leaving it to the facilitator to be aware (for example, I would choose the meeting time with fewer people if it meant a more diverse group), but it is not easy to know gender, "race", etc. from standard profiles...
